Title: Who do you report lawyers to?
Post by: LeathernLace on May 15, 2012, 09:21:39 PM
I have a silly question. Does anyone know if you can turn a lawyer's office into BBB or is there another route you have to take? I had some problem's with a specific office here in town and later found out that what they did was illegal and unethical. I found out from another attorney and was told that I needed to report it. Of course I was so upset at the time that I didn't think to ask who to report it to. It isn't the lawyer that is the problem,  it is the paralegal that works there and unfortunately they are married so reporting it to the lawyer would do no good. I tried and he just made excuses for her. She is very unprofessional. She even tried to get me to pay for copies of my own file after the case was done. She had on several occasions yelled at me on the phone and hung up on me for telling her she was being unprofessional. I find it hard to believe I was the only one that had any trouble with her. I talked to the other paralegal in the office and she said she has ran off more clients than they can keep. I feel sorry for the attorney, he is a very nice man and did a wonderful job on my case. She just needs to be reported before she closes him down completely.

The Missouri Bar Association has an ethics committee that you can report the lawyer to but no clue who you call on the paralegal.

If what she did was illegal, why don't you report it to the Sheriff?
No thanks needed JB.

I'm a little curious as to why you would think you wouldn't have to pay to have copies done?  Nothing in this world is free, somebody has to pay for them, and if they are for you, why shouldnt that person be you?

In a court case i had that i needed an attorney for i got a copy of all my paperwork and didnt have to pay for it.. now it might have been in his fees but it was a set fee.  Now on the other hand if she got a copy and requested another copy, then yes she should pay for them

I would say get another attorney.  How about the one who thinks you should report the other guy?  He sounds like a winner.

a lot of times you may get a copy of your paperwork as part of the initial price...some times not.  That should have been discussed ahead of time.    Many law offices will charge you for anything done...copies..talking on the phone...etc....
that is how they make thier money.  they charge by the hour and will bill you for anytime you are there talking to them.    As for how they treated you on the phone(initial comment), I can only opine about it and assume that if the conversation was polite on one end...it probably would have been on the other end as well.  This probabl was not the case.  Tempers were probably up and that probably led to heated discussions...which led to this post.
