Title: 911 telephone surcharge
Post by: cowboy on July 12, 2011, 06:01:42 PM
why is there a $2.59 surcharge for 911 on my phone bill?   I thought this was replaced by a sales tax increase years ago.  :poke:

The tax is for the local 911 answering service.

The $2.59 service charge is so that the phone company can recover the free service for making it available to the public to use. Same priciple as the reduced rates for the elderly and poor that we pay for on that same phone bill.

You didn't think that service would be provided for by the phone company, cuts into their profit margin....

Pay a tax for 911 center to stop the billing and provide a service, then the phone company picks it up, next the electric co will want some to. Got us coming and going.
