Glad to see the time in now right and I for one shall vote yes on the ballot. I would urge all others to do the sameour county is busting at the seams crimewise and no matter how many bad guys we send off there always seems to someone to replace them. Hartzler: 'We have a debt crisis because Washington spends too much'

U.S. Rep. Vicky Hartzler

Hartzler: 'We have a debt crisis because Washington spends too much'
WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 28, 2011) — Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler continues to voice concerns from citizens of the 4th Congressional District that Washington's reckless spending is hurting our economy, destroying jobs, and saddling our children and grandchildren with mountains of debt. She hosted a "Budget Town Hall" in Jefferson City, where she briefed citizens on her efforts to rein in runaway spending. "We have a debt crisis because Washington spends too much, not because Washington taxes too little," Hartzler said. "The federal government is borrowing more than 42 cents of every dollar it spends. It is unsustainable. We’ve got to reverse course now!” Click here to read more on Pulaski County Daily News ...

Im glad it took her this long to figure that out.  Blanket statments are fun, solutions maybe a little harder though.  I mean im sure pretty much everyone in america knows by now the government is spending to much, but theres probably only a handful with plans to fix it. I have a feeling shes gonna turn out to be that parrot that sits in the corner of the room repeating everything it hears. I like the headline too, its like we elected captain obvious, i mean I was almost sure we had a debt crisis because we were taking too much money in.  I guess i need to give her a chance though....

Bringing  home the bacon must be made an extent saying for politicians. We also must make  WELFARE a dirty word again like it was when LBJ started the spending spree in DC  on un-constitutional programs. Where in the constitution will I find the  authorization? Read Article 1, Section 8 before you respond.

Im not trackin Smokey  in regards to making "welfare" a dirty word - are you meaning:

A)welfare n. 1. health, happiness, or prosperity; well-being. [<ME wel faren, to fare well] Source: AHD

or

B)"Welfare in today's context also means organized efforts on the part of public or private organizations to benefit the poor, or simply public assistance. This is not the meaning of the word as used in the Constitution. Source: The Constitutional Dictionary, www.usconstitution.net" ??

Article 1, Section 8
The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

I for one LIKE seeing the government trying to ensure my well being. And sometimes, people need "welfare" (assistance) so they may improve their current life situation and become more productive and prosperous -

I must totally be missing what your talking about....

In regards to the original post - I am not a Hartzler fan (but - it is what it is,  until I can exercise my vote again) - when I first read the headline, I thought to myself - "oh dear gravy..., did she have a brain boner when she thunk this up after her epiphany???"

But after I read the entire press release - I simply left, unimpressed, without prejudice for the piece. Hell I was jsut happy it stated to the effect she was listening to constituents.

I can't speak for Smokey, But I think he may be reffering to
3,4 and 5 generations of welfare familys.

I have no problem someone being on welfare when it's needed BUT for a lifetime NEVER.
