I don't think this whole email thing is a "LIBS" thing, I think the media is bored. I could care less, as most of America what Sarah emailed. I don't think stupid things like that should even be allowed to be open to the media. Sometimes I think Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Information Act rules are streatch way beyond what our forefathers wanted when they wrote that document

who else would want the e-mails gone through. It is a media frenzy, the liberal media is who wanted them released. Sarah scares the hell out of the libs.

FOX was in line just as much as the rest of them. I think the whole think is BS. Just like all the channels running live court on the casey Anthony trial. Why is this one case so big. If it had been a little boy, you would never have heard a thing. if it had been a hispanic or black child, it would never have made news.
Granted it was a terrible thing, and she deserved the chair, but the media has exploded this whole thing into a circus.

Emails, sex lives and drama. The news media wants us to watch their commercials
"The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?"

One of the main reasons behind the email FOIA request was that Palin violated open records laws by using a yahoo account to conduct state business.

We don't need another case where elected officials violate the open records laws by using secret GOP servers to conduct government business in the White House and then being unable to produce any of the records required by law, or another Republican governor deleting all official government emails within 7 days, in clear violation of open records laws.

These people are elected to do a public job by and for the taxpayers, their salaries are paid by taxpayers, the office they sit in, the desk they sit at, the computer they use, the electricity to power it, all paid for by taxpayers.  They have a legal obligation to keep records of official government business open and available to the people who pay for it all and for whom it is all intended for.

"There are plenty of good reasons for fighting, but no good reason ever to hate without reservation, to imagine that God almighty Himself hates with you, too. Where's evil? It's that large part of every man that wants to hate without limit, that wants to hate with God on its side." - Kurt Vonnegut

Something like Operation Fast and Furious.  No coverups or stonewalling of information to Congress.  Right?  Corruption at its finest. Who cares about Palin?  I certainly don't

I have no "dog in the fight"with regard to emails from Alaska. So far, Sarah Palin is not a candidate for anything. I have spent zero time reviewing Palin's emails and I'm not interested unless they have something to do with Pulaski County -- like maybe relatives of a certain Alaska State Trooper.

However, on the broader issue of access to open records, you may want to rethink your post in the context of past activities by groups such as the Pulaski County Sewer District and the Pulaski County Commission. I think there are a lot of people who were very glad that the records of the sewer district were opened for the special audit and that the "unofficial" meetings by certain commissioners in places other than the courthouse stopped. We, the voters, are the bosses of our elected officials, they need to be answerable to us, and if they don't realize that, they need to be made to change their minds or we need to change who represents us.

Back to Palin -- if she does run for the presidency, I will have a great deal of interest in whether her use of unofficial accounts was an intentional effort to hide things or something done with no malicious intent to hide anything.

My guess is the latter. Lots of elected officials, including some here in Pulaski County, have conducted official business on personal email accounts. There might, for example, be people who have used the PCW private message feature to communicate with elected officials who are participants on the Pulaski County Web. If such communications have happened, it's possible that Rick Lepard could be given a Missouri Sunshine Law request for copies of those emails, and while Rick probably can't be legally forced to comply, the elected officials who used PCW to communicate with constitutents could run into a great deal of trouble if the elected official refused to voluntarily turn over those communications.

I can assure you that what Darrell said might happen with the Pulaski Co. Web has happened with various websites, with almost every elected official I know, especially if they have a Face Book account.  I will openly admit I have.  It all depends on how I am contacted by the person seeking help/advice.  I don't believe I have ever started "official business" on anything other than my state e-mail account (when doing it electronically), but if someone contacts me through private message on here, through Face Book, through my personal e-mail account, through my website that I pay for....I don't tell them to re-send it to the right place, I just try to answer their question then, with as little hassle to them as possible.

In the Missouri House, we are no longer reimbursed for our cell phone usage for state business, but in my case about 90% of my cell phone usage is official business, I also pay for my Leg. Asst. to have a cell phone and about 80% of it is official business.  That doesn't count the number of times I have conducted official business from my home phone when people call here, all of these are on personal phones where there is no "accountability" for my actions as a public figure.

It happens all of the time, not normally because someone is hiding something, but because there are so many different ways to contact elected officials today.

Sunshine laws, etc... have not kept up with technology.
