Darrell, yo u are not correct on a couple of things.  Not all of us brought him on us.  ONly the people voting against Bush.  They are getting what they deserve.  The rest of us are just holding of and hoping to get rid of him.  I listed my reasons above.  He has disrespected the country and the free citizens thereof.  He, as a man deserves no respect from me.  Only his office is respected.  they are two separate issues.

I agree with your point in general, and that's one of the differences between conservatives and the more radical types of liberals. Conservatives respect the institutions of government. The difference between moderate liberals and their more radical cousins is that militant leftists do not have that respect for the institutions of government, and are willing to achieve victory by radical or even anarchistic means. Conservatives have no business using those tactics from Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals" -- they have their own internal logic, and they will lead places we most emphatically do not want to go.

Actually, there have been a few examples of left-wingers coming to the support of George Bush in the face of extreme attacks. Remember, for example, after the Venezuelan ruler Hugo Chavez came to the United Nations and made his wild-eyed "sulfur" speech about President Bush, and then offered to provide cheap gas through the Venezuelan-owned oil company to poor people in Harlem? The leftist Congressman from that district, Charlie Rangel, said this:

"It should be clear to all heads of government that criticism of Bush Administration policies, either domestic or foreign, does not entitle them to attack the President personally. George Bush is the president of the United States and represents the entire country. Any demeaning or public attacks against him are viewed by Republicans, Democrats, and all Americans as an attack on all of us. I feel that I must speak out now since the Venezuelan government has been instrumental in providing oil at discounted prices to people in low income communities who have suffered increases in rent as heating oil prices have risen sharply. By offering this benefit to people in need, Venezuela has won many friends in poor communities of New York and other states..."

This may be one of the few times I can think of that Charlie Rangel did something right. He defended our president on the grounds that even those who disagree with his policies need to stay away from certain types of attacks. Conservatives might do well to follow Rangel's model here of how to disagree with a president on the opposite side of the political spectrum.

The president of the United States is **OUR** president, whether we like it or not (and I, for one, don't). He needs to be treated accordingly, given the respect due his office.

I certainly support those who criticize his policies. President Obama needs to be voted out of office, and in the meantime his policies need to be blocked by Congress, and if that doesn't work, then blocked by states or the local level when that's possible.

But he **IS** the president, he's **OUR** problem, and in a republic, we all have to suffer the consequences of our bad decisions when made by public vote or by our elected representatives.
