Title: Vivint
Post by: medicm on August 17, 2011, 02:37:11 AM
WARNING! There's a company called Vivint going door-to-door trying to sell "free" security systems. They'll tell you how it's completely free to you as long as you put their sign in your yard "because we're new to the area & trying to advertise." It really sounds like a great deal, especially when they throw in the new programmable thermostat (which you can control via smartphone) and a 12-pack of "energy efficient lightbulbs."  What they don't initially tell you is that you have to pay $57/month to "keep the connection with the police" and also they want a 3 1/2 year contract. They don't produce any of this info until they already have your name, phone and SSNs. They also don't want to give you any time to think before you sign (they wouldn't even give a business card and let you call them the next day), and apparently send an installation guy out that night (the salesman was at my house until 8:15PM). While digging for paperwork in his clipboard, he kept referring to "neighbors" who had already signed on, and only had a form filled out for an OZARK resident as proof.  After I told him I wasn't signing a 2 yr, let alone a 3 1/2 yr contract with a brand new company, he left and was still going to go to my neighbors' houses this late at night. Their online reviews are horrible, you can find hundreds just for August.. something's not right with this company. Beware!

I looked them up on the BBB site and they are NOT a certified company through them, and have "government actions" against them!

Call a lawyer.

What good will a lawyer do? They didn't buy the system and they left after being told no. If this company comes to your house be nice tell them no thank you if that doesn't work show them what you use for home protection.

Correct Chas, I did NOT sign with them, and they left promptly after I told them there was no way in hell that I was going to sign a 3 1/2 yr contract with anyone before doing my own research. I was just trying to give everyone on here a heads-up that they are in town and trying to sell "free" home security that's not really free. Don't waste your time talking to these guys!

They showed up at my house today and after I asked a bunch of questions the young kid that showed up gpt really defensive. They first went by APEX then changed to APX around here and I remember when the rumors were around how they were ripping people off . Read your contracts before signing. After I told they guy that they did not have a good rep in this area he wanted to argue with me about leaving before he left my property. Really I dont think so. Buyers beware

Yep they were at my place last week, tried telling me how bad the alarm company I already have is and I really need to change over to them. After asking the price about a dozen times and not getting an answer I ask him to leave. After the kid left I got on line and looked the company up OMG!!!!! stay away from this company........

If you live in the city limits of Waynesville or St. Robert, ask to see the door-to-door solicitation permit for any salesperson. If they have one, they may or may not be legitimate; if they don't have a permit, the company is not legitimate (or at least is ignorant) and you should call the police to have them barred from solicting door-to-door inside the city limits.

If you're in the county there are no rules on door-to-door sales.

I do not know off the top of my head whether door-to-door solicitation permits are required in Richland, Dixon or Crocker.

A little over a week ago I had a white van pull up in my drive and on the side of the van it had a magnetic sign that had that name on the side of it, I watch the guy from my bedroom window get out of the drivers side, then grabbed his clip board and head towards my front door, he did not even make it to my first step to my front deck when out from under my deck come my lab/husky barking like he was going to eat him up. still watching from my bedroom window the guy jumped atleast 2 foot backwards then slowly backed away from my steps until he made it back to the van door with my dog staying his distance but barking like a mad dog while i was laughing so hard i barely could breath. I think this guy found out pretty quick that my home security is better than his and a heck of alot cheaper a month to maintain lol.
