Title: Regulations for Dogs in the County
Post by: guardmom75 on January 13, 2014, 10:13:33 PM
Not sure if this is the right section but have a few questions about what to do about dogs in the county. My 3 nieces and my son and another neighborhood boy were in the road walking home from the bus stop, they have been taught not to walk next to the fence for the houses that have the dogs but to walk in the road instead. Today on their way home one of the dogs got out and bit my niece in the leg. Luckily another neighbor was outside and grabbed a shovel and came to help her and the other kids who range from 10 - 14. The dog kept standing there growling at him but backed off. I was called up there and called the county police and they sent an officer out. I left my brother there speaking with the officer and took my nieces and son home. When they were done my brother says they told him there was nothing they could do the owner of the dog got there opened the gate and the dog went back in. He said they wouldn't even take the dog in to test which I would think would be mandatory for a dog bite basically he said all they could do would be to file a civil suit against the owner to pay for my nieces doctor visit. My question is what are the legal steps we can take to make sure this doesn't happen again or is it since we live in the county there is nothing we can do. Also for our protection if a dog attacks are we allowed to put it down. Would just like some clarification on these issues. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Meet the kids at the bus stop. take a gun of your choice and use it if necessary. self defense and defense of those kids is the priority. Check with the PA, but I would not and have not hesitated to shoot a threatening  dog outside it's yard or in the road.

The cop should have at least asked for vaccination records. So you know if the dog had his rabies shots.

athe dogd owner should be held accountable for the actions of his dog through the courts. What we don't need or want in the county are excessive regulations.
