Title: Vote NO to Ammendment 7
Post by: berto45 on July 26, 2014, 01:55:27 PM
I would agree that the roads and bridges in MO are in need of repair, but not with a raise in sales taxes.
1) sales taxes have nothing to do with transportation, everyone including the poor will be hit hard with this taxes.
2) raise the gasoline taxes instead, Mo has the 6th lowest and have not been raise in years, I guess it makes too much sense for the politicians
3) who is behind this ammendment? The largest contributors to politicians in Jefff City, contractors, engineers and trucking companies
4) Trucking companies will benefit the most with contributing the least since they are the ones that destroy the roads. They also do not want
a raise in gasoline taxes for obvious reasons.
5) Money will not only go to roads and bridges but to mass transport, airports and trails (really!!).
6) Vote no and tell Jeff City to go back to the drawing board.

I would rather have a half cent sales tax to benefit Missouri's bridges than putting more on a gallon of gas. Maybe I'm wrong, but a few more cents at WalMart isn't that big a deal.

It is actually 3/4 of a cent increase. It will be the largest tax increase in MO history. It doesnt only benefit the roads but walking and biking trails, think about that.
MO has the 6th lowest gas tax in the country. I got a solution raise taxes on diesel only, after all, the trucking industry are responsible for the poor conditions of our roads.
Do you know that the ammendment also states that there will be no raise in gas taxes for the next 10 years, who gains from this ammendment?

there will be a lot of issues coming up between now and November. make sure to read the fine print!

the trucking industry isn't responsible for all the damage, neglect and cuts are also to blame. how many hwy sheds were closed in the past few yrs. MO voters passed a hwy  bill several yrs ago. the problem was the money was not spent on hwy's. the voters are suspicious of hwy spending bills now.
