Mark:  check your water, & your parents then you should know.

I'd rather live a life of freedom than follow a book written by a bunch of goat herders in the bronze age.

Religious followers ==>   :lordRick:

Fish:  I have volunteered as an nurse in Joplin after the tornadoes, with my atheist daughter.  Atheists usually volunteer or donate w/o being in a group.  We don't indoctrinate people when we volunteer.  We give help w/o pushing our beliefs, because it's the RIGHT thing to do.  Every year my husband & I donate to different organizations at X-mas time.  We donate at other times, too.  We just donated to an organization that helps a shelter in the local area.  We DON'T give money to churches or waste our time in a church.  Most atheists, including us, are also called HUMANISTS because we believe in supporting the human population's success now & in the future.   Most people comment that we are the happiest people they've met, so you have no idea what you are talking about.

The buybull is just a BOOK.  Do you believe everything you read?  It was written by at least 40 authors over 1,500 years.  It has been changed, edited, parts added & subtracted.  Why live your life according to what ONE book says?  Morals come from society's norms.  For instance, 30 years ago people thought bi-racial marriages were a big sin.  Now it's accepted.  The same will happen with same-sex marriages.  It used to be acceptable to own slaves & beat them.  Society has determined that it's not morally right, now.  When I was growing up, if a man beat his wife, everyone just looked the other way.  Now he's put in jail.

Fish:  you are a self-righteous, pompous fool.  You ignore the damage Christianity causes, such as hatred like yours, hatred of gays, hatred of anything unlike yourself.  Even different sects of Christianity dislike each other.  When helping other countries, they do it in order to indoctrinate, thus increasing the Christian cult.  The nations with the highest amount of secular populations, are the happiest.  Mark:  why don't you make comments instead of doing cut-and-paste all the time?  Nobody reads them.

Fish:  is your first name Jerry?

Fish is an old man living in the past when people believed the superstitions they were taught.  He was taught to never question life, but to live in delusion.  When cornered on here he uses "LOL" frequently.   ebilly:  you have more than your brains, you appear to have something Fish doesn't have, common sense.

Fish:  isn't it time to grow up & stop believing in demons, angels & gods?  Do you believe in Santa & Leprechauns too?

Studying the buybull is what made me an atheist!    :":":

REAL scientists, not "Christian scientists".  You can pray to a milk jug & get the exact same results as praying to your god.  The best optical illusion in the world!

Religious citations do not prove religion to be right.  You'll never see scientific peer reviewed proof of any god. $%$#@%^

Coyote:  I don't NEED to believe there's an invisible boogyman in the sky, to have MENTAL health.  Society learns to accept changes that have no affect on most.  Society WILL accept gay marriage, eventually.

Chas:  Thank you for pointing out your error.  I have more respect for you.  I'm an Atheist & have been since I was 11.  I was born to a Baptist mom, dad was neutral & never, ever voiced his views on religion when I was younger.  Grandma took us to church until she moved away.  After that, my parents started going to church & DRAGGED us with them.  By then I was well into my teens & could think for myself.  I saw the discrepancies in the church & the beliefs, which made me more firm in my non-belief.  I was actually told recently by a cousin, "you have to be a Christian because the rest of the family is".  This even more supported my belief that religion is culture-oriented.  If I would've been born in another culture, my family would most likely have a different belief system.  During my college years I studied the beginnings of Christianity & it reinforced what I thought to be true.  Did you know that there were at least 40 authors of the bible?  The unbiased history books mention WHY many of the authors wrote what they did.  FOR CONTROL.  They were not "inspired by god".  God is supposed to be present when at least 2 people are together.  Get another believer with you, & ask for god to appear.  NOTHING HAPPENS.

igahmah:  So your definition of a "civil union" is with a marriage license done by someone other than a minister.  Uhhhh, isn't that called a marriage?  This type of "civil union" is still illegal for gays.  I was MARRIED  by a judge in a courtroom.  Gays are not able to do that in most states.

Coyote:  I feel very sorry for you, for wasting your life worshipping what doesn't exist.

I DO hate Christians that push their beliefs into our legislation.  Would YOU be happy with a "civil union" instead of a legal, licensed marriage???  A legal marriage gives partners the legal ability to keep property upon the death of a spouse, the ability to add the spouse on an insurance policy, and for tax breaks for being married.

Your beliefs are an indication of the hate your religion has.  You don't want to give people the same rights as you.  The great majority of people that don't believe in gay marriage is Christian.  Most non-Christians agree that everyone should have equal rights, no matter what their sex, race, sexual orientation, etc.  As each generation brings less Christians, there will be less discrimination, more freedoms for all.

I don't care what anyone believes until they try to put it into legislation.  Preventing gays from marrying is due to a religious belief.  Christians are preventing a group from having the same basic rights as everyone else.  I don't care whether gays are born that way or not.  It doesn't matter.  They are adults and have the same feelings towards their partner as others do towards theirs.  This is against the Constitution.  How would you like it if Muslims enforced legislation according to their beliefs???

Fish, people like you won't be missed when your generation passes.  The country will be more peaceful & loving.  Your beliefs instill hate.  Just look at how many times you called marriage between 2 loving people of the same sex "false marriage".  What if others considered yours "false marriage"?  I have to say that the newest generations are more likely to leave religion behind & accept others for who they are, no who they think they should be according to Bronze Age beliefs.  The country was NOT founded on Christian beliefs, but the freedom to believe however you want to w/or w/o religion.

The Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense founded on the Christian religion
by Jim Walker Originated: 11 Apr. 1997 Additions: 26 Dec. 2004
Many Religious Right activists have attempted to rewrite history by asserting that the United States government derived from Christian foundations, that our Founding Fathers originally aimed for a Christian nation. This idea simply does not hold to the historical evidence.

Of course many Americans did practice Christianity, but so also did many believe in deistic philosophy. Indeed, most of our influential Founding Fathers, although they respected the rights of other religionists, held to deism and Freemasonry tenets rather than to Christianity.

There were no marriages with LICENSES before Christianity.  What do I call Adam & Eve?  A MYTH.  I'm talking about Christianity throughout history.  Christians are Christians no matter what they do.  You said, "there is far more religious tolerance now".  Morals change with society's idea of morality.  But, there is still a lot of religious intolerance by Christianity.  They still picket against personal freedoms.  These freedoms will eventually be a right for everyone, like the Constitution states it should be.  I read the bible, that's why I'm an ATHEIST.

Marriage LICENSES were not required.
Morals are determine be each society, not by an ancient book written during the Bronze Age.  Since when are Christians singled out as the only ones with morals?  There have been many horrible things done in the name of Christianity:

--the slaughter of Native American Indians thought of as "heathens"
--Hitler was a Catholic Christian
--the KKK
--the Religious Wars
--Salem Witch Trials
--the higher the rate of Christians in a state, the higher the rate of murder:  http://www.cybercollege.com/fog33.htm
--bombing of abortion clinics & killing of doctors in them
--The Crusades
--The Inquisition

Sam Harris writes that "...faith inspires violence in at least two ways. First, people often kill other human beings because they believe that the creator of the universe wants them to do it... Second, far greater numbers of people fall into conflict with one another because they define their moral community on the basis of their religious affiliation..."

Fish:  CHRISTIANITY IS A VIOLENT BELIEF NO MATTER HOW YOU LOOK AT IT!!!

Marriage licenses were unheard of prior to the Middle Ages. In England, marriage licenses in one form or another are more than four hundred years old, with the practice brought to America in colonial times. Today, applying for a marriage license has become an accepted practice and is often perceived as necessary for legalizing a marriage.

There were no husbands or wives before Christianity began.

Your bible sure has taught you to judge & hate others.  That's why so many people are leaving your religion!  Society is SICK of your type of behaviors.  Sick of the violence that religion causes.  Sick of your discrimination.  It makes NO difference whether someone is born a certain way, or not.  If 2 (or more) consenting adults want to marry, it's NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!   Keep your crazy beliefs out of our legislation!

You didn't deny that you believed interracial marriage was "false marriage" 20 yrs. ago.  So you are a homophobe.  That's why you don't like same-sex marriage.

I HAVE read the bible.  That's why I'm an Atheist.  You are covering eyes, unwilling to see the truth that the bible is full of errors.  Man-made errors because MAN wrote the bible w/o any guidance from a mythical god.
