National News / Farrah Fawcett dies at 62
« on: June 25, 2009, 06:43:03 PM »
LOS ANGELES – Farrah Fawcett, the "Charlie's Angels" star whose feathered blond hair and dazzling smile made her one of the biggest sex symbols of the 1970s, died Thursday after battling cancer. She was 62.

The pop icon, who in the 1980s set aside the fantasy girl image to tackle serious roles, died shortly before 9:30 a.m. in a Santa Monica hospital, spokesman Paul Bloch said.

Ryan O'Neal, the longtime companion who had reunited with Fawcett as she fought anal cancer, was at her side, along with close friend Alana Stewart, Bloch said.

"After a long and brave battle with cancer, our beloved Farrah has passed away," O'Neal said. "Although this is an extremely difficult time for her family and friends, we take comfort in the beautiful times that we shared with Farrah over the years and the knowledge that her life brought joy to so many people around the world."

Other "Charlie's Angels" stars paid tribute to her.

"Farrah had courage, she had strength, and she had faith. And now she has peace as she rests with the real angels," Jaclyn Smith said.

Said Cheryl Ladd: "She was incredibly brave, and God will be welcoming her with open arms."

Local News / Cody's convenient store
« on: February 10, 2009, 04:54:22 PM »
I love stoping at the Kum & Go in Lebanon..gas is always cheaper there!

Cody’s Convenience Stores agreed Monday to let Kum & Go buy its 37 stores in southwest Missouri. The deal could close next month and likely will result in the closing of some stores, since the two companies have stores close to each other, sometimes across the street.
Cody’s started with one store after Curtis Jared, who was in business with his father at CRW Properties in Springfield, bought the original Cody’s at the intersection of Missouri 125 at U.S. 60, west of Rogersville, in 2002. That general store opened in 1886 and was named after Buffalo Bill Cody, who camped near the store after bringing his famous traveling Wild West Show to Springfield in the mid-1880s.

Kum & Go, based in West Des Moines, Iowa, has 34 stores in southwest Missouri. In a news release, it said the deal would make Kum & Go the largest convenience stores operator in southwest Missouri. Kum & Go bought most of the Git-n-Go stores in the area after that company filed for bankruptcy in 2004.

“Southwest Missouri is a great place to expand and bring the latest store conveniences Kum & Go has to offer,” Kyle Krause, Kum & Go president and chief executive officer, said in the news release. “We look forward to building upon the excellent relationship the Jared family has developed with Springfield, Joplin and surrounding communities.”

Cody’s has stores in Battlefield, Bolivar, Clever, Fair Grove, Hollister, Joplin, Monett, Neosho, Nixa, Republic, Rogersville, Springfield, Waynesville, and Webb City. In addition to the 37 convenience stores, Kum & Go will also buy Cody’s eight car washes.

“This business transaction is a win for southwest Missouri. In today’s uncertain economy, our community and associates will benefit from Kum & Go’s strong position in the convenience retail market. Their fifty years in business speaks volumes,” Jared, president and CEO of Cody Ventures, said in Kum & Go's news release. “We wish Kum & Go the best and look forward to working with them on future real estate transactions.”

Kum & Go began in 1959 in Hampton, Iowa. The family-owned company has more than 400 convenience stores in 12 states (Iowa, Arkansas, Colorado, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Wyoming and Wisconsin). It says it’s the 5th largest private convenience store chain in the United States.

A little late butttttttttt GO CHIPPER :)

Chipper Jones of the Atlanta Braves won the 2008 National League batting title, finishing the season with a career-best .364 average. It was the highest average for an NL batting champion since Barry Bonds hit .370 in 2002.

In doing so, Jones fell just shy of Mickey Mantle’s season record for a switch hitter. Mantle batted .365 in 1957.

Here are the top 10 National League hitters in terms of batting average for the 2008 season:

1. Chipper Jones, Atlanta: .364

2. Albert Pujols, St. Louis: .357

3. Matt Holliday, Colorado: .321

4. Cristian Guzman, Washington: .316

5. Lance Berkman, Houston: .312

6. Ryan Theriot, Chicago: .307

7. Randy Winn, San Francisco: .306

8. Brian Giles, San Diego: .306

9. Andre Ethier, Los Angeles: .305

10. David Wright, New York: .302

National News / This story is so sad....
« on: October 26, 2008, 07:59:34 PM »
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - An Arkansas television anchorwoman died Saturday, several days after being found beaten in her home when she didn't answer her wake-up call.

A hospital spokeswoman says Anne Pressly died at St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock. She was 26.

In a statement released by the hospital, Pressly's parents Guy and Patti Cannady asked for privacy as they grieved their daughter's death. They say they are "comforted by our faith knowing that Anne is now with our heavenly father."

Pressly was beaten around the head, face and neck during the attack. She had been unable to communicate with her family or police, while being kept sedated in the intensive care unit.

Pressly was discovered Monday morning a half-hour before she was to appear on ABC affiliate KATV's "Daybreak" program. Her mother went to the anchor's home after she didn't answer her regular wake-up call.

Police have yet to identify a suspect in the attack. Detectives reportedly visited a gas station a few miles from her home after finding evidence Pressly's credit card has been used there Monday.

Sergeant Cassandra Davis, a police spokeswoman, did not return a call for comment.

Pressly was a native of Greenville, South Carolina, and moved with her family to Little Rock while she was in high school. She was a graduate of Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee.

Pressly had a small role in the new Oliver Stone movie "W." She appears briefly as a conservative commentator who speaks favorably of President Bush's "Mission Accomplished" event on an aircraft carrier shortly after the start of the Iraq war.

Business Opinion / My Walmart Experience
« on: September 18, 2008, 08:47:20 PM »
Ok, so my little man (3yrs old) has been sick the past couple days, he looks up at me with his little sick eyes, and says mama...Can I be Batman for Halloween? So after work last night I went to walmart found a costume, and a bucket to match. When I got to the register, she scanned it and it said "Do Not Sell".  :angry_copy(1): I said, please go ask someone else, cause that doesn't make sense to me. She left, came back (without the costume) AND SAID..........."I was told that its either 1 of 2 things. 1, its been recalled or 2, its going on sale this weekend."  ??? Got home, it hasn't been recalled.....so why in the world would they NOT want to sell it "because its going on sale". Wouldn't you think that they would want to make more money off of it?

Things that make you go HMMMM / HouseHold Tips!!
« on: September 07, 2008, 11:08:35 PM »
Household Tips - MUST READ!!!  WORTH PRINTING AND PASSING ON.  SOME I'VE NEVER HEARD BEFORE ESPECIALLY THE DRYER TIP.PLEASE BE SURE YOU READ THE LAST ONE ABOUT THE CLOTHES DRYER!!!!!! GREAT TIPS:

1. Reheat Pizza

Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza. I saw this on the cooking channel and it really works.

2. Easy Deviled Eggs

Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash till they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw bag away when done easy clean up.

3. Expanding Frosting

When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar and calories per serving.

4. Reheating refrigerated bread

To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.

5. Newspaper weeds away

Start putting in your plants, work the nutrients in your soil. Wet newspapers put layers around the plants overlapping as you go cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening plastic they will not get through wet newspapers.

6. Broken Glass
Use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to pick up the small shards of glass you can't see easily.

7. No More Mosquitoes

Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away.

8. Squirrel Away!

To keep squirrels from eating your plants sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.

9. Flexible vacuum

To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.

10. Reducing Static Cling.....

Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and -- ta da! -- static is gone.

11. Measuring Cups

Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out.

12. Foggy Windshield?

Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car. When the windows fog, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth!

13. Reopening envelope

If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside , just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. Viola! It unseals easily.

14. Conditioner

Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's a lot cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it in your hair...

15. Goodbye Fruit Flies

To get rid of pesky fruit flies , take a small glass fill it 1/2" with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid , mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!

16. Get Rid of Ants

Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it "home", can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works & you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!

17. INFO ABOUT CLOTHES DRYERS

The heating unit went out on my dryer! The gentleman that fixes things around the house for us told us that he wanted to show us something and he went over to the dryer and pulled out the lint filter. It was clean. (I always clean the lint from the filter after every load clothes.) He told us that he wanted to show us something; he took the filter over to the sink, ran hot water over it. The lint filter is made of a mesh material - I'm sure you know what your dryer's lint filter looks like. WELL...the hot water just sat on top of the mesh! It didn't go through it at all! He told us that dryer sheets cause a film over that mesh that's what burns out the heating unit. You can't SEE the film, but it's there. It's what is in the dryer sheets to make your clothes soft and static free - that nice fragrance too, you know how they can feel waxy when you take them out of the box, well t his stuff builds up on your clothes and on your lint screen. This is also what causes dryer units to catch fire & potentially burn your house down with it! He said the best way to keep your dryer working for a very long time (& to keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out & wash it with hot soapy water & an old toothbrush (or other brush) at least every six months. He said that makes the life of the dryer at least twice as long!

How about that!?! Learn something new everyday! I certainly didn't know dryer sheets would do that. So, I thought I'd share!

about!
