County Government Opinion / Re: 2012 Sheriff's Office Election
« on: August 02, 2012, 03:40:31 PM »
Bill had answered a question on this thread, and then right after that two people started having an arguement with each other, within the thread, and the thread looked pretty foolish until those members were removed and their comments deleted.  So, maybe Bill didn't want to come back based off what happened on the thread on that time.  I know that he takes the job serious, and at that point in time, this thread did not look like a serious thread about the candidates that we have for the position.  I am not speaking for him, just musing "out loud".

I did hear (via facebook) that Bill helped break up an attempted robbery the other day.  He is still a reserve for the PCSD.

Not dogging you JB.  I think a lot of people use the word "local" when they are meaning a Mom & Pop style business.  In my mind, there is a huge difference between supporting Wal-Mart, which technically is a local business, versus, for example Post Pawn, which is local and a "Mom & Pop" business.  I am sure that PCSD uses both type of vendors.

If you are referring to former deputy Vela who has worked for them for several months and who quit them two months ago please remember that he quit our department on 7-3-2010. And for the record with a storage lot/office on Spruce Road and 3 local employees (residents of Pulaski Co. mainly Waynesville area) they feel they are a "local" company.

I do not have a dog in this hunt, but by that logic Buffalo Wild Wings and Lowes are "local" companies also.  Although they do pay directly into St. Robert via sales tax collected...

I had a chance to speak with Bill Anderson the other day.  He was easy to speak to and answered my questions directly without any "um"s.  It is no secret, to those that are my facebook friends, that I already supported Bill before this conversation.  But, I am even more convinced that he is the right man, at the right time for this job.  In my opinion, if our current sheriff thought enough of his qualifications and skill to have him hold the position that he held with the SD that he will be a great choice to fill the upcoming vacancy.  I also personally know Nick Pappas and Johnny Burgess, and they are both great men, but I think that at this time the department needs Bill.  As far as the "power trip" that has been suggested, I chalk that up to a man who is passionate about keeping the citizens of Pulaski County safe and sound.  If you haven't had a chance to have a "sit down" with Bill, and you bump into him while you are out and about, you should take a little bit of your time and visit with him.

This is a huge plus for the county.  Looking forward to the Iphone version.

Yes, I did call WPD.  However, the PD had already turned their phones over to 911, according to the dispatcher.

The call was not "LIFE OR DEATH", although the situation was escalating.  I tried reaching the officer that was already familiar with the case so I would not have to rehash everything with yet another officer.

I gave the background of the situation on here so J.B. might be able to make general inquires if he needed to before posting an answer to my question.  If J.B. needs more info, I will be more than happy to supply him with everything that he needs, privately, to help him answer my question.

And again, thanks to J.B. in advance for helping me find the answer to my question.

Sneak Peek Sheriff's View / 911 Question
« on: May 20, 2011, 12:02:36 AM »

I hope that you can help me direct my concern to the right person.  I called Waynesville Police Department at 5:32 pm, needing to speak with an officer that I had spoken with twice during the day.  I could not recall the officer's name, but described the situation, including giving my name, and the other parties name.  The woman on the line helped me determine the correct name, and the tried to contact him.  She then came back on the line and asked if I wanted to leave a message for the officer.  I said no, that I had a situation going on and needed an officer at my house.  She asked what my address was, and then asked for my phone number.  It is now 6:56 and no officer has shown up at my home.  The situation was resolved, peacefully, but with no help from the police department.  I thought that if even a child accidentally hit 911 on the speed dial that an officer showed up.  I did not call the 911 line, but shouldn't an officer been dispatched when I said that I had a situation and requested one?  I may wrong, I am guessing here, but I think that the 911 dispatcher is related to the person that I had an issue with.  Of course I stated that person's name towards the beginning of the call.  Thanks for any advice that you can give me as far as getting this issue addressed.  I know that it probably seems petty, but I think it is a concern when the police are contacted and NO ONE shows up.  Thank You in advance for your help.

I am going to miss having Dianna at the courthouse.  Best of luck to you in St. Louis Dianna!

An update on the questions that I asked Rep. Day.  Rep Day was kind enough to forward those question to Tom Stehn, MODOT.  Mr. Stehn then forwarded the matter to Victoria Wood, also of MODOT.  She has been coordinating with the bridge removal contractor.  The contractor has agreed to donate a section of the steel beam to the Pulaski County Historical Society.  This will most likely be on display at the 1903 Pulaski County Court House Museum.  Unfortunately, the maker plaque was already gone before MODOT started the project, so that will not be available.  Kudos to David for helping with this matter and to MODOT for being so cooperative, without throwing up a bunch of red tape.  :woohoo:

There was a tavern in the cave when I was a boy. Years later a murder did occur there. A local boy name of Higgins shot a girl in the head. I believe in the 70s, I'll check.

Whatever happened to Shorty?  I think her name was Dorothy Greer.  She is buried in Dunkard (Old Gospel Ridge) Cemetery but I do not recall what year.  Old rumor was that it was an argument over a bottle of Peach Schnapps.

On a slightly different subject, does anyone recall anything about a bar in Devil's Elbow called The Roadhouse?  Would have been early 50's, I think...

snoop - e-mail me at and I am going to put you in touch with the district eng., he can answer those questions.

done, and thanks!

Sorry to bother you again about Crocker Bridge but these steel through truss bridges are disappearing at an alarming rate.  I have a few questions for you.

1)  Can the plaque and maker plate (if there is one) be salvaged to be donated to the Historical Society?

2)  How would an editor of go about getting an "invitation" of the razing of the bridge to document it for historical purposes?

3)  This probably is not feasible, but could sections (six inch) be cut from the truss and sold to help raise money to be donated to the preservation of Devil's Elbow bridge?

This is so sad...

That was a quick reply!  Thanks!

I posted some construction pics this week on bridgehunter.  Does anyone know what the plans are for the old bridge?  I am guessing that it will not be feasible to turn it into a pedestrian footbridge, like the one in Eminence.  If anyone knows what day demo of the old bridge is scheduled, I will get pictures.
