Local News / JT Roberts letter to the editor.
« on: January 06, 2009, 01:13:40 AM »
Several hundred Pulaski County citizens have approached me wanting to know the outcome of the Nov. 4 election recount. Unfortunately, I have to tell them that on Dec. 11, the Pulaski County Commissioners met and agreed to dismiss Prosecuting Attorney Deborah Hooper and hire a St. Louis Attorney, Ivan Schraeder to represent Sheriff J.B. King, and County Clerk Diana Linnenbringer and to oppose the recount. I feel that it is time that I clarify a few points. First of all, Sheriff J.B. King in his weekly article continues to tell the public that I have sued the county. That is totally false. I have not sued anyone; I only filed a petition requesting a recount of the Nov. 4 election results. The word lawsuit does not set well with most citizens and the purpose behind the continuation of Sheriff King’s use of the connotation, law suit is to degrade me personally. On Dec. 16, Attorney Schraeder filed a response to my petition in which I had requested a recount. In his response, he has requested the Court hold me liable and pay all attorney fees for Sheriff King and County Clerk Diana Linnenbringer, pay all expenses and fees for any recount if the Court should grant it, and pay all costs for a re-election, if the Court should decide one is needed. Additionally, he requested that I post a bond with the Court for any and all expenses that may be incurred. Ladies and gentlemen, this constitutes a lawsuit. It is leveled against me personally and they are asking for monetary expenditures. Sheriff King has not released this fact to the public and only wants the public to think I have filed a lawsuit, which is totally false. In December 1994, Rolla Attorney John Beger, who had run against Circuit Judge Douglas Long, filed a petition for a recount in Circuit Court in Pulaski County. The recount was conducted in a short period of time and the results released that Judge Long had been the winner, but no other details were released and no elaborate news articles published. In my case however, that was not the case. Within minutes after I filed the petition, I received telephone calls from the local radio station and the Daily Guide Newspaper, as both had copies of my petition, which they obtained from the Circuit Clerk. A few hours later, Judge John Brackman from Union, Mo., Franklin County, was appointed to hear the request for the recount. On Dec. 11, after the County Commission had hired Attorney Ivan L. Schraeder, my attorney requested Judge Brackman recuse himself and he did so. Now, an out of county judge, has been assigned to hear the case. What started out to be a simple request for a recount now may turn into a very expensive court battle if the County Commission, Sheriff King, Clerk Linnenbringer, and others have their way? I will now have to defend myself at my own expense, just for following the law and requesting a recount that I am entitled to receive at no expense to me. The past two weeks, the County Commission has tried to borrow $150,000 to balance the budget. They have been successful and the money taken from the building fund. Even with the short fall they found $10,000 to fund St. Louis Attorney Ivan Schraeder. It makes me wonder why those office holders want to oppose the recount so vehemently. November election results for the office of Sheriff as reported by Pulaski County Clerk, Diana Linnenbringer, have varied. Some showed me losing by 27 votes and some with 40 and some with 38 votes. Regardless, the vote margin between me and J.B. King is less than one percent. Under Missouri Law, RSMO 115.601, I am legally entitled to a recount, no question about it, since that statute mandates that if the vote margin between two or more candidates is less than 1 percent then there shall be a recount, if I ask for it. I asked for one. In this case, 12,844 votes were cast with the difference being 38 votes, which is considerately less than 1 percent. Three other Missouri Counties had recounts, and in all three cases the counties paid for the recount. In Johnson County, constant, Jim Jackson requested a recount but contestee, Hoskins ask him to pay for the recount but he quoted RSMO, 115.601, which entitles him to a recount. He did however; figure the cost of the recount in Johnson County. They hired four judges and four poll watchers at $10 per hour, for 16 hours, for a total of $1,280. The rumors of $40,000 for a recount in Pulaski Count are greatly exaggerated. Clerk Diana Linnenbringer stated the county spent $44,000 for the November election. If she had 60 election judges at $10 per hour for 15 hours that would amount to $9,000. She only had two poll watchers and I am not sure they were paid. That leaves $35,000 which she claims was spent for something. With 15,165 votes being cast, that amounts to over $2.30 per vote. More reason to count every ballot. She has publicly stated that she has several absentee ballots that have not been counted and several absentee ballots that have not been opened and counted. In my petition I requested the Court issue an order that those ballots be counted. It is the right of the voters to have their ballots counted. Under Missouri Law, RSMO 115.601, any candidate is entitled to a recount if the vote difference is less than 1 percent. The law sets out it to follow the guidelines in RSMO 115.577, and 553. Those laws state that the candidate or any one or more registered voters may request a recount. A petition is to be filed with the Circuit Clerk, stating all points that the Court is to look at to determine if a recount is in order. In the petition, I followed the guidelines and pointed out several voting law violations. Under RSMO 115.593, I asked the Court to consider a re-election if the Court decided that the violations were serious enough to change the vote totals. I also requested the Court consider a hand recount. I feel that a person is more accurate than a machine. In all recounts held this year in Missouri, the machine has been inaccurate. My main area of concern is the absentee ballots. I have no problems with the election judges or their ability to do their job accurately, I just don’t trust the mechanical counting device to be 100 percent accurate and when you are dealing with 38 votes out of 12,844, you want to be accurate. If the difference was on Sheriff King, I am sure he would feel the same as I. Since I have been paying my own attorney fees for the recount, I may have to make a decision as to how much money I want to invest in a recount. I too am a taxpayer and it infuriates me when my tax money is wasted. It frustrates me that a few office holders have the authority to put someone in office they want, regardless of what the voters want and regardless of what the law mandates. It makes one wonder if perhaps some wrong doing may have occurred and they don’t want someone to find out about it. Voters have rights and I feel that if they take the time to go vote then their vote should be counted and counted accurately. Maybe the voters will remember this in two years, we shall see.

Local News / An e-mail about Dino Hurd

Subject: About Dino Hurd

I stumbled on your pages on the Soto murders while doing a Google search for Dino Hurd. In 1960 Dino Hurd (not sure it’s the same guy, but very possibly) was the most notorious juvenile delinquent on Nellingen Army Air Base near Stuttgart Germany. He was said to carry razors and switchblades and he painted his pointy shoes with copper and gold spray paint and buffed them to a keen shine. I didn’t live at Nellingen, but at a nearby base. I remember being scared to death every Friday night when we took the bus to the Nellingen roller skating rink, thinking I might run into Dino Hurd.

Your page on the Soto Club murders brought that all back. Like I said, I didn’t know him but I’d seen him a couple of times, and your Dino certainly resembles the guy I remember. Wondering if you know if he was an Army brat. It seems likely that since this was a service club on a military base, there may be a connection.

News Release
Drug Search Warrant Served
Pulaski County Sheriff J. B. King
Nov. 29, 2008

At approximately 2:22pm on Nov. 29, 2008, the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department with assistance from the Lake Area Narcotic Enforcement Group and a member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol from Troop I served a search warrant at 21125 Highway Y, St. Robert, Missouri. The Pulaski County Emergency Response Team (PCERT) was used to serve the warrant.

The warrant followed a brief investigation involving narcotic activity. Detectives from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department applied for the search warrant and it was granted by a circuit judge.

As a result of the search a small quantity of controlled substance believed to be heroin, narcotic paraphernalia, and possible stolen property were seized. There were four suspects in the house who were taken into custody pending additional investigation.

At this time the investigation continues. None of the persons arrested will be identified until formal charges are filed. There were no injuries to any person during this operation.

Things that make you go HMMMM / Bob Carsons Four Corners
« on: November 21, 2008, 02:51:45 PM »
I was just telling Sherri when I was a kid we have a house of ill repute called 4 Corners where St. Robert Glass is now.. The had gun fights there etc.. From recollection there were cars on Missouri Avenue hit with bullets in the gun fight between the black pimps from St. Louis and the Local 4 Corners owner Bob Carson and his men.
Well, the funny part was when we were kids we called the place and asked how much for some sex, and they replied, sir we rent BBQ grills and sell charcoal. So that's how we first learned of what exactly it was they did there.. Or so they said.. LOL

« on: November 17, 2008, 01:45:44 PM »
NEW YORK (Reuters) – Citigroup Inc plans to cut up to 50,000 jobs, CNBC television said on Monday, as souring economies and global credit conditions cause the U.S. bank with the farthest reach worldwide to retrench.
The cuts are on top of the roughly 23,000 jobs Citigroup has already slashed this year, and would leave the second-largest U.S. bank with about 300,000 jobs worldwide.
