Business Opinion / Re: Waynesville Daily Guide is taking a survey
« on: May 23, 2009, 08:24:28 PM »
They surely won't mention us again since we beat them in their own survey for best internet websites a couple years ago. Any media source that has a survey as to where you get your news will surely have one up on its competitors. Since all those readers read it in their paper and they are allready customers.

For those who may not have noticed it, the Waynesville Daily Guide is taking a survey of its readers. It's been printed each day on page three of the paper for the last week or so.

They're the ones asking for our opinions, so those of us who have an opinion should buy a copy of the paper and give it.

By the way, they're not listing any of the local community websites as choices for information sources; apparently the people who designed this survey think more people in Pulaski County check the websites of KY3, the Springfield News Leader, Ozarks-First, or a local radio station than this one, the Pulaski County Daily News, or other local community websites.

The survey questions are as follows. Notice that you will need to get a copy of the paper to submit the responses; I am deliberately not giving the range of selections (ie., age 18-24, 25-34) since I don't want people to be copying and pasting this as an email, sending it to the Daily Guide and thinking they are having their responses recorded when they will probably be disqualified since they weren't submitted from a printed copy of the paper.

1. Age
2. Gender
3. Whether readers use TV, internet, newspaper or radio to keep up with local and mid-Missouri news
4. The overall reputation of the printed newspaper in the community
5. Whether it's easy to submit photographs to the newspaper
6. Whether the newspaper covers county, city, school, college, crime, or heath care best
7. Whether the newspaper keeps readers informed of local events and things to do
8. Whether the newspaper takes stances on issues on its editorial page
9. What websites are used for local sports information.
10. Whether readers have purchased something from the newspaper classifieds
11. Whether readers like the way obituaries are written.
12. Whether readers want increased coverage of county, school, sports, entertainment, home and garden, food, health and fitness, travel or fashion and style topics
13. Whether readers think the newspaper does not cover county, city, education, crime, health care, sports, lifestyle or calendar topics well.
14. Whether the paper should run comics and puzzles
15. How readers rate coverage of education
16. Whether readers trust the newspaper
17. Whether the newspaper has a good reputation in the community
18. Whether readers turn to the newspaper to plan their week or weekend
19. How readers rate the photography
20. Whether the paper is conservative, moderate or liberal
21. Whether readers have ever purchased a classfied ad
22. How readers rate coverage of area sports

And, of course, there's a place for "other" comments.

Personally, I strongly oppose these surveys. My father was the head of political polling for the Republicans in the Michigan House of Representatives and I worked my way through college and part of graduate school doing market research, both as a poll-taker and later in lower management of a privately-owned research company. I know how easy it is to manipulate a self-selected respondent survey like this, and believe the error rate is so high that no important decisions should be made based on the results. At best, they can give a broad-brush of community opinion. To do a professionally-run survey costs tens of thousands of dollars and there's no way a newspaper the size of the Daily Guide can afford to do that.

But they're the ones who want our opinions, so we ought to give them -- if we don't, we can be sure other people will give theirs, and decisions will likely get made based on those opinions by other people.

Seems the only humans you believe are the ones who wrote the bible 2000 years ago, before man had this scientific proof.
You must atleast admit if the bible were written today it would have to be written different and you probably wouldn't believe it.

I just thank God I'm educated enough not to believe those monkey bones have anything to do with humans.

I just watched the video and enjoyed the intelligent information that was based on fact.. What I didn't like was him stooping to an unintelligent level by calling people names. That wasn't necessary and hurt his case..

It was 29 years ago. Does that make you feel old? Does me.

My mistake it was Iraq, however the fact remains we didn't authorize the strike and neither did they ask. We supply weapons to Isarel just like we do for other nations, which they pay for, but we don't tell them how to use them. We also train some of their people just like we do other nations, case in point come out to Fort Wood. Again Isarel is a stand alone country they don't need our permission. The houses you are talking about are actually on Isareli soil. The president can say what he wants, but Isarel will defend it's self with or without our support.

That was Iraq, not Iran.

You all might as well give this one up. It doesn't matter who is in the white house they are not going to tell Irasel what they can and cannot do. Remember back a few years ago when Irasel flew the F-16 deep into Iran and took out their reactor, they didn't ask us then either. However, we celebrated their success because they proved just how good this fighter was and we didn't have risk one American life. Irasel is a soverign nation and will continue to take whatever action is necessary with or without the US support and you can count on it.

Great Point.

I think the key words are "resembling soft" tissue. As in a really good hundred year old million year old fossil. But then, if every thing was less than 7,000 years old, there wouldn't be any fossils.

Evolution theory is based on intelligent scientists opinions and facts.

Creationism is based on one book that doesn't explain it, rather it demands you have faith.
