I looked at buying that business, at the time the owner was doing near 500,000 per year.. I ran the numbers, did the math and realized since her family owned the franchise, she was only paying 1 percent franchise fee. Being able to do this she was showing a profit, but very little. If I were to have bought it and paid the 3 percent franchise fees, it wouldn't have made money. The new owners had no chance as I had predicted. They did a lot of business but it was all spinning your tires and getting no where. Lots of work for nothing.. The numbers she had quoted me and the numbers I came up with were off by 30,000 in inventory alone.. She insisted on 100,000 to buy it, it was worth 70,000. If you could pay the one percent she did it was doable at 70,000.. Knowing she wouldn't take less than the 100,000 and knowing 3 percent was what I would pay, I walked knowing it was a death sentence.

I would agree that once they are in some of the cheaper hotels they leave if possible. I won't name names but I have had many complaints on some.

Honestly around here its pretty split. A lot of people will not pay a higher price and choose to stay at the more run down ones because they are cheaper. On the other hand, the hotels on the blvd get a lot of people who book at the cheap ones and once they get there, they cancel and come to any of them on this road. They will pay more for quality, safety, and more amenities. The hotels here, 99% of the time you get what you pay for. So if you only compare prices and choose the cheap one, thats exactly what you get. Cheap everything. Not tryin to put them down. Just how it works.

I have noticed that the cheaper hotels do more bookings than the expensive one. The thing about my sites is you can compare rates side by side so I assume that's why the cheaper ones do better. Honestly it irks me when they book rooms at The Star Motel, because I make very little commission on it.. This area is about 1 percent of my business or less so I don't pay much attention to it at all. I have 80 percent of the Hotels in the continental United states covered now.. I guess I have close to one million web pages now.. Lost count..

Just had a thought. Industry is alive and well in Pulaski County.. People like our County Commissioners just don't have a clue.. When they think industry, they think factories.. The odds of getting one of those are slim. Yankeee Trader is part of our local industry.. Has anyone contacted you to help you grow locally or internationally Yankee? All my calls come in from out of town.. People from progressive towns contact me..

Rick my be able to answer this better as he has the travel websites but I imagine there are occupancy rate studies completed prior to building additional.  With the expansion on post it only makes sense that there is more places to stay needed.

Now if only 1 of Ransdalls ideas was something along the lines of a per night tourism tax.  :poke:

You are very presumptuous.. I am not mad at you nor was I ever, That's not an emotion that affects me often.. After years of dealing with the public and this board, I have long ago learned to laugh off anything I see or hear.. I am surprised that you seem mad at me however, I thought you could agree to disagree on subjects without emotion..

I didn't know your article wasn't on this site anymore, I must have inadvertently removed it when I removed all the news items from the site.. I am no longer running anyones columns as they are being posted on PCD, I saw it as duplication. I had even offered you a way to post them automatically and you never responded, I am pretty sure I had also explained to you that I was not going to be putting them on PCW anymore.....  I will make sure the Hurd link goes back up.

Feel free to respond to this gentleman on the Hurd story...

Rick, am I allowed to answer that?  I have had several people ask me about my column being no longer on here. I have remained silent, but I suppose because you mad at me over JB and my support of JT.  But, I do know the answer to the person's question, if you want it.

Subject: About Dino Hurd

Rick,

I stumbled on your pages on the Soto murders while doing a Google search for Dino Hurd. In 1960 Dino Hurd (not sure itís the same guy, but very possibly) was the most notorious juvenile delinquent on Nellingen Army Air Base near Stuttgart Germany. He was said to carry razors and switchblades and he painted his pointy shoes with copper and gold spray paint and buffed them to a keen shine. I didnít live at Nellingen, but at a nearby base. I remember being scared to death every Friday night when we took the bus to the Nellingen roller skating rink, thinking I might run into Dino Hurd.

Your page on the Soto Club murders brought that all back. Like I said, I didnít know him but Iíd seen him a couple of times, and your Dino certainly resembles the guy I remember. Wondering if you know if he was an Army brat. It seems likely that since this was a service club on a military base, there may be a connection.

Not comparing to this story, but do you notice how people in this area seem offended when a story is covered here, yet national stories are covered in the exact same way and it seems normal to them.

I agree senstationalism is the reson for many headlines and pictures.. But. What"s new here? Nothing is going to change..

There's an idea, have someone rewrite the bible and have them remove the parts that no longer apply.

Read it again kari,I was addressing dn, not you.  Jesus would know the nt. He was the reason for it. His teachings lived on. his dicsiples continued his ministry and that is what many of the books are about. dn gets stuck with ot teachings and states verses that no longer apply .
