City Government Opinion / Re: Waynesville Nuisance Abatement Board
« on: March 29, 2007, 02:35:53 PM »
I must admit this abatement board got me to thinking, and I went down town yesterday and power washed a home I own there. LOL

Boy did it need it.  Waynesville looks better now. I did notice the neighbor down there needs to do the same, their white house looks green.

I will stay home for the next month to relieve the strain on the Sheriff's department.

Ransdall's pre-election options/ideas turned into a budget cut for the dept.

He is just like Crismon getting in dept. business that isn't his.  Not tax related but figured I would throw that in.

The internet tax won't work.  It puts the burden on the business owners. If your customer doesn't pay the tax you have to. I know....I am a business owner too in this county with a tax license and have done the research.

The porn tax would help but we need 7 officers addidional, 4 jailers, 3 dispatchers plus the cars, equip. etc.  That tax would just be 1 officer maybe.

So yeah...the only option is LE tax that would help.  Follow the tax in Richland.  Another story in the paper today how support is growing and there is no sight of opposition.  That is how we were in Bates County when we passed ours too in 2002.

The train as JB calls it is rocking precariously on the tracks.  We all are dreading the busy summer as March is the busiest it has ever been.

You are a talented person, you need to focus your talents on building your nest, rather than complaining about something unimportant. The birdies will flock to your nest once you have prepared it properly... Focus on the positives..

If George Bush was giving that speech, I would be questioning his sanity.

If George Bush had given this little speech... you people would be patting each other on the back for voting that bastard into office a second time and nodding your heads and agreeing with every little unorganized thought he let fall out of his mouth.

No one is denying that adolescent testosterone causes problems, and it is not going to change no matter what you do. Just like you are not single handedly going to destroy Christianity. Marilyns customer is not the jock, he speaks to the little guy like him, it is a sales pitch that seems to be working. The Nerd Hero is targeting teens. How did he win you over?.

So, you believe that death of the kid who got run down by some jock at IHOP was justified because it was just another case of survival of the fittest?

Do you think that members of the sports teams in schools should be treated differently than the rest of the students?

I have and always will be a firm believe that all students participating in extra curlicular ANYTHING, but especially sports, should be drug tested reguarly.  When I was in HS it was well known by the students that the morons on the basketball team were the biggest drug users and largest violators of sexual harrassment policies in the entire school...  but they got away with it... Why?  Well, you know, they're on the sports team...  They can do no wrong... because our culture rewards those who lack the mental ability to tie their own shoes properly...  They're our champions.  Let them rape your daughters and beat your songs into submission... they've earned the right because they're entertaining us...

Right...

Its not survival of the fittest... its just a ass backwards culture thats going NOWHERE fast...  Its stagnant...  Rotting... and will soon turn to dust.  All because people are too afraid to be different...

Its really pretty easy to loose your individuality when you give in to what soceity believes you should be... whether you want to be or not.

I wish you would reconsider your resignation for the benefit of this county.

And if ya don't believe JB just tune your scanner in!  We are full blast into spring silliness in Pulaski County.  Multiple domestics, alarms, trespassers,  people pulling weapons on others and more...... all in an 8 hour period.  We had 7 calls in my first 2 hours of shift last night.  And it's only March!!

The Sheriff’s View #13, Week of March 26 to 30, 2007

Welcome aboard one more time. We had a horrible week last week and my heart is not in the column this morning. The big topic of course is the accident were our Deputy collided with and killed a pedestrian on Mo. 17 near the Ft. Wood Inn. Until the Highway Patrol investigation is complete I really should not comment on this one but I think I will point out that from the accident site, looking back to the east, the sight distance is close to 1,500 feet. I cannot understand why a pedestrian would not see the approaching car and would walk out onto the roadway. But I also know that this is a case were nobody wins and everybody loses. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the pedestrian.

We have made progress on the used wrecked vehicle that we received from the St. Robert Police. It is up and running. The car body had 115,000 miles on it but the new engine we added only has 35,000 miles so we are hoping this will be a good move on our part, We are now adding police equipment to the vehicle and we hope to have it on the road in a few more weeks. I must confess that right now the car looks a little funny with the big POLICE logo on the rear trunk right above the license plate that says Sheriff. But that will all change soon. I would like to thank the City of St. Robert and Chief Curtis Currenton for the helping hand they extended to their less fortunate neighbor in the law enforcement field

Our calls for service/case number count for the year stands at 1, 718 so far. This number is starting to scare me because we are just now approaching the busy time of the year. My fear is that we will be unable to respond to many calls this year. That will hack off a lot of people but bluntly stated this should not come as a surprise to anyone. I cannot send you Deputies that I do not have. My requests for extra officers have failed completely.

In both the 2005 and 2006 budgets there was a line item for $2,000.00 earmarked for radio repair to our main radio. In both years we spent the entire amount on repairs. I requested the same $2,000.00 this year but my request was rejected. I find myself with repair bills for $560.00 on the main radio already this year and I will be forced to use the civil fee fund to cover this bill. This is not good for two reasons. First any repair cost spent means that much less equipment or vehicles that I can try to purchase. And second we are just now coming up on the spring thunderstorm season were we have received all of our lighting damage in the past. On one more front this could be another bad year.

On the employee front we are having a very bad month. Sgt. Rex Larson will be unable to work for at least two more months due to medical reasons related to his gunshot wounds suffered in the line of duty last year. We have also lost our dispatch supervisor Bruce Main. He has resigned due to financial reasons. Bruce told me I could say anything I wanted about his situation and I will limit myself to one brief comment. It is a bad day when you lose your most experienced supervisor because he can make more money selling items on E-bay then he can by working for the Citizens of Pulaski County. So one more time I am going to say, once again, we cannot continue to lose the cream of our employee crop and continue to prosper as a department. Right now I am worried about the survival of the department.

I was looking at one of our local web based chat rooms today and found a posting by one of my senior Corporals that she will also be leaving the department soon for a better paying job. So in the near future when this news is official, I will once again say, we cannot continue to prosper as a department if we continue to lose our best people. I know that many of you are tired of reading those words, well guess what, I am tired of writing those words.

I had hoped to purchase a new jail transport van using the money in the County Law Enforcement Restitution Fund (CLERF) but I have been told the Pulaski County PA and Coroner got there first with their requests and the fund is fairly low right now. This situation sort of reminds of a quote that is credited to hockey great Wayne Gretzky, “One hundred percent of the shots you don’t take don’t go in.” Maybe I can take a shot at the CLERF fund soon and score a goal for my team.

I think we have had our limit of gloom and doom for this column so I will sign off with my usual closing remarks, please drive careful and stay legal. The jail lights are on.

But, there are more who do want you in office. It would be smart if your opponents check them selves. JB is trapped in a no win situation, well, until we win.

Yes, there are a lot of people who do not want me in office.

3261
Thanks for reminding me to read that article. WOW.

An article that appeared in the Daily Guide indicates there is a smoking challenge in the sheriff’s department. In the articles lead it identifies the challenge at hand but one must look at it fully. Here is the lead, “Lt. Sharon Green of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department warned county commissioners at their Thursday morning meeting that they face serious consequences unless something is done about deputies and employees smoking inside the building.”

Excuse me; is there a “Lt.” in front of Sharon Green's name? To those who might not know it means lieutenant, the first level of supervision, the first level of management. I think it is appalling a first level supervisor sees the need to go running (in her case waddling) to the commissioners meeting to make a complaint she knows will make it to the newspaper.

As a supervisor, does she not have the authority to write letters of reprimand, issue letters of warning, take disciplinary action? Is there a no smoking policy against it in the county? She needs to act like a supervisor; she gets the pay does she not?

If there is not a smoking policy then she needs to take the lead and write one so JB can sign it. It might help the situation once the policy is developed have each deputy read and sign it showing they understand and will comply with it. On another note, is there a policy on weight control? If not. “Lt.” Green might put her efforts towards writing one and then following it. Are deputies required to wear uniforms so they do not look like a clerk?

They have registration records they use to verify, or paper work from polls.

Why would signatures with addresses and phone numbers have to be notarized......can we not do it that way then they can verify everyone of them with a phone call.....

You are welcome. Best of luck in your new career.

Gary, all of your men and women do an excellent job. I know how tired they get especially on nights like tonight. I would also like to thank you and Rick for all of your support for the LE tax. I know all of the deputies at the Sheriff's Dept. greatly appreciate it as well. I know I will be leaving as soon as I can get through the real estate course and license exams. I already have a position with Century 21 in St. Robert. I too will be leaving for obvious funding reasons. Take care. Cpl. Sharon Miller 343
