Title: Practically Enchanted....Awesome store!
Post by: ledchick on August 31, 2008, 04:27:37 PM
I just recently got a chance to go into this store....(they have moved from the Square in Waynesville up on Rt. 66 by Wal Mart exit) and I LOVE it.
The prices on their herbs and such were just terrific! The sweets bakery is GREAT!
A great atmosphere and some really unique gift ideas etc.  They have scrapbooking as well !  Candles, magic, herbs, cakes, cookies, teas, soaps, herbal remedies, great incense and a multitude of other interesting things.  Super duper friendly and helpful.  I would like to see them make a go of it!
Had the lemon cake and good god it was good!  She bakes with real butter eggs sugar etc.....
I hope that you guys can go by and at least check it out.

I have never ben, but when they were in Waynesville I caught a glimpse in the store and had just asumed they were based on a "Wiccan" type theme - is this the case?

She was in business quite a while in Waynesville.  I don't agree with her practice and wish it wasn't so, because I would love to have a place to go to buy sweets (just what I need).  Won't be giving her my business but I'm sure a lot of people will.

Yes, she's been open longer than that - she only moved from Waynesville to St. Robert. And she's absolutely terrific. Definately worth visiting.

igahmah - You shouldn't let her religious practices stop you from buying sweets. Seriously. Do you even realize how many witches and druids are in this area? I'm sure that you shop at their places, work beside them, and are friends with them and don't even think a thing about it. We should support local businesses. Don't let prejudice stand in the way.

Now I might sign up for that one with the price of gas. :)

Can't defend myself on the "prejudice" charge angela.  I guess you could call it that.  I just don't want to support anything that smells of witchcraft.  I'm sure there are a lot of people who practice it that I don't know about, there are a lot of things that people do that I know I wouldn't approve of, but if I don't know it I can't be held accountable for it.

My gosh angela as if i didn't need something else to worry about.  I also heard that a group of Islamic extremist terrorists opening a shop next door to her and giving classes on how to build a bomb and hide it in your underwear.
But i am not going to let prejudice stand in my way so i am gong to sign you up for the class okay? :wink1a:

Most people only know the "Christian" definition of witchcraft.  They're taught to believe it's bad, and taught that they're all a bunch of satanists or what have ya.  It's so strongly engrained in this area to believe they're bad.

Oh well.  I happen to love Mel and the Practically Enchanted gang.

**Let's out sharp witch cackle**

BTW they cater to all religions.  I've seen Hindu things in there, Jewish, Christian, etc.  She's not strictly selling Wiccan things in there.  She's quite open minded.

You can ask me if you have any questions about wicca, even though I'm on the "Christian" viewpoint of it now.
When I was in my early 20's I became close friends with and then  lived with a 3rd degree High Priestess
and some of her friends for a couple of years.  We had a pentagram
in the basement, I studied the Book of Shadows, gathered my tools and made steps
towards initiation.  Thankfully something always kept me from
waking up when they were ready.
I went into this shop the first time
I visited Waynesville, and while I thought much of the decor and
merchandise indeed enchanting, I graciously left for personal reasons when I figured
out the purpose for some of the
merchandise, and that the two very nice ladies in attendance were Wiccan.
Sorry if that is offensive to some here, like I said, I was as friendly and polite as anyone to them.  It's just that I know both sides quite fully.

(I just edited this, on the book.  Read parts of one, study the other.)

LOL JT you kill me! You've got such a lively personality! :) Now...seriously...witches are not at all the same thing as Islamic extremists...and goats milk? Blah! I'd much rather have cakes and wine. ;)

I agree with tiger wife that the ideals of witchcraft have been taught by Christian clergy and are incorrect. True witchcraft isn't at all about
harming someone, or sacrifice, or Satan, or any of that nonsense. It's actually a very peaceful, loving religion and it's terrible that it gets such a bad rap. :( Ditto on the "open minded thing" that she said. Most witches accept that they are persecuted and still love Christians. This might be better being separated as religion topic, because honestly, it would be terrific if people of EVERY religion took the time to learn about other religions from unbiased sources.

igahmah - I'm sorry if I targeted you in this thread. It wasn't a personal attack - I would have said it to anyone (if they would have said it before you). LOL I can understand the need to support businesses that are more inline with your beliefs. I would just hate for the business to not make it, when we so desperately need business around here, all because of the shop owner's religion. They do not press you into witchcraft or attack anyones beliefs when you walk in the store.

Ok. ;) End of my soapbox. LOL

JM - Thanks for sharing that tidbit with us! Hey..didn't we used to have a witch on the board that posted in the religion section and was teaching about their faith?

See and that's cool.  I just feel bad when people think they should avoid others because of their religion.  I try to study as many as I can.  I was raised Baptist, and I still have a lot of Baptist beliefs, but I think I'm more along the Wiccan way now.  Not sure.  When I was little, I was constantly being told I was "going to hell" for being different.  I was told I was going to hell for wearing black (this was by an elder member of our church).  I had a friend that committed suicide when she was young...when I needed all the emotional support I could get, I was just told "She'll rot in hell" by my church.  So I kinda got pushed away from that religion.  Most Wiccans I've met have been really supportive when people need help, and really open minded.  That's how I try to live my life, so I kinda identify more with them now.  To each their own, it just sucks that a lot of people believe that if you don't follow their beliefs, you're wrong.

Not attacking you either igahmah. :)

Surely you jest Mark :jester:
I thought you knew that Digital Narc is the Grand Wirzard Warlock of all covens in the state of Missouri........
ALL Witches in the covens have to go thru his office before casting spells wether they be an Evil or a Good spell.
Forms and all payments have to go thru him and a signed statement to the whys and what for these spells are to be cast.
Just to be on the safe side you need to turn off your computer and turn off all the lights in a completely dark room.
Now after you have done this look towards your computer and if you see a Green glowing Aura surounding your machine
Get on the phone and call GhostBusters!!
Okay now... WHO YOU GONNA CALL??

Wicca is an interesting belief system, from the standpoint of academia...

They are known to be, us, very um, how do you say - sexually promiscuious, with open and free 'interactions', regardless of marital bonds.  In fact, many 'ceremonies' entail uh, 'coupling' shall we say....

But as for further discussion, the religion section is definately the

I want to thank everyone who made positive comments about the shop. I happen to be a very close friend to the owner and  volunteer my time a couple of days a week. The atmosphere is intoxicating, and not everyone who comes in there is wiccan or pagan. We do have christians that come in. WE JUDGE NO-ONE. They do ask questions and we answer them with the utmost respect. I am also wiccan and would like to say we treat everyone equally. We do not worship the devil, sacrifice anything, or commit unthinkable, dispicable crimes against humanity. We are just like everyone else. We are an earth based religion who believe that everyone is created equal and should not judge another for ANY REASON. IT IS NOT OUR JOB. We are happy to help anyone in need and gladly give of ourselves. If that is a sin, then I will sin for the rest of my days on earth. We are a family and, as such, we are all very close. We welcome anyone from any walk of life to join us, we turn no-one away. Practically Enchanted is the nicest place in town to shop, there's no pressure to buy, just come in, sit down, take a load off, and get to know us. Any one of us would be happy to explain any questions you may have.
Thank you for your time
Blessed Be

I have been reading comments left by everyone, and just thought I would leave mine. My mother is Wiccan,  and not once have I heard her talk about how they worship the devil. She has given me ideas w/ herbs on how to relieve stress and to meditate. When you go to Practically Enchanted, they are friendly, no one says "hey let's fly on our brooms and ALL HAIL Satan" LOL They say hello and ask if they can help you with anything. There isn't anything that would stop me from going in there. And I am not Wiccan. No one judges you there and it's really comfortable to walk in there. So even if you don't believe in magik and the Wiccan way, you should still go in and check it out. Everyone burns candle and insense. And everyone LOVES cakes and sweets. So I would recommend any and everyone to go check it out... :karma:

Practically Enchanted is a place for everyone.  We carry many different items (which cater to people of all Faiths).  We make a lot of our products ourselves.  Cakes and sweets are made with real ingredients.  They are not pulled out of a freezer and decorated with 5 lbs of Crisco.  Practically Enchanted was in Waynesville for 6 years and recently moved to St. Robert.  I am not the owner, but I know the owner very well.  She is one of the kindest people you will ever meet.
Many people come into Practically Enchanted as customers, but they leave as friends.  The staff is always extremely helpful and go above and beyond to ensure that the customer leaves happy.  If they do not have something in stock, they are always glad to do special orders.  They even offer a layaway program!
I encourage you to stop by the shop.  If you have questions, ask.  They are always glad to lend a helping hand and are very honest people.
Sincerely,
M

I am not wiccan, but probably should be.  They beleive in the goodness of the earth and the people that are on it.  They also beleive that to cast a bad spell on someone will come back at them ten fold, therefore they don't do things like that.  Practically Enchanted is just that.  The people their are great and will answer any questions you may have.  Also the brownies are the best I've ever eaten.  Just remember You only denigh yourself if you don't buy the muffins cookies cakes brownies or anything else Mel bakes!  Talk about mouth watering!!!!!!!!  I hope you all can get past the fact that she is wiccan and do yourselves a favor and viisit her store.

For the record, I am not critical one way or another - to each his/her own.  I was just curious, as the topic of the store had come up and I had heard that the theme was tied to Wiccan/Pagan beliefs...

BREAK -

When I was a drill sergeant I had a private complain that there was no place for him to practice his 'religion' (belief system is more appropriate, IMHO) - anyhow, as he was in my platoon the next time I had 'duty' (24 hr shift) I had to let him have a black butterknife (magic makered) and a candle... Had to take the turd to the woods at midnight so he could "perform a ceremony"...  I was like 'whatever private, but if you come after me with that butter knife Im gonna sacrafice you to the woods"     ;D

Anyhow, he didn't kill anything (that I know of, lol) - took a few minutes and promptly turned over his 'supplies' at the conclusion.  Don't ask me what he did, as I was told by the Chaplain that I could not 'observe' the ceremony.   This was 13 years ago, so I'm pretty sure he didn't hex me.....

You are correct, I am a male.  The owner of the shop is female.  I volunteer a lot of time at the shop.  The shop is the type of place where you can sit down and relax.  It is extremely peaceful.  I volunteer time at the shop to help my friend.  As I said before, she is one of the kindest people you will ever meet.  I am also here to help educate people and break down many of the prejudices people have.  I share any information I have with people who ask questions.  Many people come into the shop and ask about Charmed.  While I absolutely love the show, it is extremely hollywood.  With that being said, we do not blow things up, freeze time, or orb.

There actually is an herb that helps with that male problem. It is called Horny Goat Weed. You should mix 1 tsp with 1 pint of water and drink up to 3 times a day. This is a Chinese Remedy. They also say that you should mix it with a Yin Tonic (Tonic consisting of Yin energy herbs), to avoid any side effects.

OK, you encouraged us to ask you questions, so I have a question.

Since you mentioned that some Wiccans are in the military as battle buddies and barracks mates, are any of you involved with either the Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers that attacked the Lebanon church's Christian retreat for basic trainees, or are any of you involved with the Fort Leonard Wood chaplain who became a Wiccan and got some national media attention? If either is the case, I'd be interested in interviewing a representative of the local Wiccan coven about what you see as the role of witchcraft in the Army and specifically at Fort Leonard Wood.

Practically Enchanted and all of the people involved with it are not a coven, they are solitary practitioners who occasionally get together for a full moon ritual. There is no bloodletting, sacrifice, nudity, or group sex as someone stated earlier. Most of them are married and are monogamous. My mother is wiccan and married, she would never do anything to jeopardise her marriage. I think too many people mistake movies for reality and I feel for those who do because wicca is a very loving RELIGION! I hope, those of you who are truly worried about what they do, will go talk to them. They are a great bunch of people and I know you all would find them very normal! They are just like everyone else and would like to be treated as such.

There were not any Wiccans that I know of involved in the attack on the Lebanon Church's Christian Retreat for Basic Trainees.  My question is does the military also offer a retreat for people of other faiths???  As I do know several Wiccans in the Military, most of them say the basic trainees cannot come off of post to go to a Full Moon Open Circle.  Doesn't seem fair that the Christian Basic Trainees would be able to, but that is just my thought process on the situation.
As far as local coven's there is a small group.  Most people, however, are not part of a coven.  They are solitary practitioners.  There are numerous Elders in the area, which play an important part in the pagan community.  Age does not make one an Elder in our community, knowledge does.
Most Wiccans accept the fact they are discriminated against on a regular basis by the mainstream, but we are always glad to help.  We understand that our actions create Karma, either for the good or the bad.  This is why most Wiccans are nonviolent.  I know of a lot of people that say they are "Wiccan," but dabbling or reading one book and thinking you know everything DOES NOT MAKE YOU WICCAN.  Wicca is not only a religion but a way of life.  If you have questions, stop by Practically Enchanted and visit with its staff members.

THANK YOU for stating that.  Too many people that I've talked to have only read a book and now believe they're Wiccan.  They read the book and see some movies like The Craft and think..."Wow that looks neat....guess what?!  I'm a WITCH NOW!!"

LOL

I know of a lot of people that say they are "Wiccan," but dabbling or reading one book and thinking you know everything DOES NOT MAKE YOU WICCAN.  Wicca is not only a religion but a way of life.

As for the person making comments about the sword fighting, if you would have checked your facts first you would know that they are having a barbecue and learning how to do re-enactments for upcoming Renaissance events in Missouri! I just can't believe the filth that runs through peoples minds sometimes. And you people are saying pagans are bad! I wonder if the person who wrote that was CHRISTIAN? Anyway, please go talk to the people at Practically Enchanted if you really want to know what it is they do, I did. With my mother being wiccan I wanted to find out as much as I could about it, because, in the beginning I thought exactly what most of you are thinking before I spoke with them. I am very proud of the choices my mother has made for herself, and although I am not wiccan, I see that she IS a better person because of the choice she made!

OK, if there is no connection between Practically Enchanted or what appears to be the one local coven to the people attacking the Lebanon church or the Army chaplain who became a Wiccan and got a lot of media attention, I'll drop the question. We don't routinely cover small Christian churches and the same would apply to other religious groups, unless they're doing something of widespread interest beyond their membership.

However, this has certainly been an interesting addition to the local mix of discussions. It is something I never expected to find in rural Missouri -- except perhaps Appalachian "folk magick" of herbal remedies passed down from mother to daughter that "big-city Wiccans" might want to use as resources.

I had to spend a lot of time dealing with Wicca, various Eastern-themed religious practices, and similar items of esoterica in some previous places, however. My home church is in Greenwich Village in New York City, where it was for many years the only evangelical congregation in the area, and those who know what Greenwich Village is know what I mean when I say evangelical Christians are scarcer than atheists in foxholes in a lot of the places I've lived and worked.

:wee_fly: This is a really neet little store, I've been in there a lot just to buy incence and cletic items as I like my Scotish heratige. they do pay state and local taxes as they are no church, but I imagine they could get an IRS exemt if they filled out the right paper work. As far as not lasting in business, they are expanding, as business is better in Saint Robert. They pratice rites that where in place a long time before theChurch took most pagan holidays and made them what we celebrate today. Christmas, Easter, Holloween. all our pagan pratices, that you celebrate today.believe me watch the History Channel or A&E They do no harm as I see, The Iquestion did more harm to people then this little group At PE and our forefathers did to our American Indians and South American Indians in the name Christ. I hope them well in St Robert, and hope there business keeps growing. :yahoo: $%$#@%^

I dont have any idea of what you are talking about as far as the attack goes first I heard of it.  I have heard of the retreat and as has been pointed out The millitary makes no such provisions for its Wiccan or any other alternative religions.   It seems they go out of their way to assist those who are Christian and Wiccans or other Pagans are left to fend for themselves.  It seems to me that freedom of religion only counts if you are christian to them.    I dont push my beleafs on others and I expect the same respect in return.

As far as the the chaplain who turned Wiccan I suggest you contact Public Relations for the post.  I am sure they will tell you exactly what they think.

I don't post much on this site as I prefer to sit back and just take things in, you learn more that way.  However I will enter into the fray on this thread.

I find some of the posts offensive in nature and downright flippant/arrogant.  If you don't agree with someone's beliefs and practices then so be it.  Some of the insinuations just have me flabbergasted.  I know the people that own this store and it bothers me to see some of what is being posted about them and their beliefs.

Wiccans are not satanists.  They are not evil and morally corrupt (as one poster seems hell bent on insinuating).

Why does anyone find it "appropriate" to post some of what has been put up?  Would you post likewise to someone who....say attends Westside Baptist?  How 'bout the Methodist church or the Catholic church.  But you say that those are religions and those should be held sacred right?

Well this is THEIR religion and they hold it sacred.  So just because you don't believe you find it ok to poke fun at or worse?

Some folks should be ashamed at themselves.

I think the folks at Practically Enchanted have shown just how gracious, kind and considerate they are to have remained so kind after reading some of these posts.

I know I might ruffle some feathers but so be it.  I just don't like folks singling out another person just because they are different and don't fit in with what "they" think is acceptable.  It is like being in Jr. High all over again.  Let's poke fun at the person who is different.

Hats off to the folks at PRACTICALLY ENCHANTED!  I love your store!    :yahoo:

I figured that you would respond.  You need to be more mindful of what you post my dear.  Wasn't one of your recent posts insinuating something was "amiss' because there were several cars in their parking lot and the shop was closed???  Or did we just forget that "we" made that comment (which btw served no purpose other than to have another haha at their expense?).  I don't know you and I don't give a rats hiney if what I say upsets you. I call em' like I see them.

SOMEONE needs to tell you that not everything that you put up is funny, and good gracious, APPROPRIATE.  You are mocking something that is of great importance to them.  It isn't a laughing matter and even I find it offensive  and I am not a practicing Wiccan.

Just please lay off ok?

:yahoo:

Great post!
+ karma for you.

I have a challenge if anyone is up to it...come into the store and sit down for ten minutes just to visit with us and get to know us. It would be nice if you would get to know us for us.  If you would like to see what we do, feel free to attend a full moon open circle.  You may stand outside the circle and observe if you like, or if you are comfortable with participating, you are more than welcome to participate.  The circle is open to all who wish to attend. Before you judge us, or accuse us of anything, get to know us.  Feel free to ask us questions, we will gladly answer them.

i have been watching this tread and other threads related to it on this forum for a few days now, and i must say i agree with carpenter. i find some of these posts disgusting and ill humored. since when was it the christian way to judge people and tell them they are wrong? would your beloved jesus be proud of you for doing so? i highly doubt it. i grew up catholic and in all the stories i heard about Jesus, never once was it mentioned how he was cruel to those who saw things differently then he did. never once was it mentioned how he bashed someone's beliefs because they were different from his own. think about this next time you get into a conversation with a pagan/wiccan/anyone who isn't a christian and you feel the need to speak in a belittling mannor to them.

the staff at PE are wonderful people. take the time to get to know them and the other people in the community and you just might change your mind about them. just please please please, refrain from trying to convince them they are on the wrong path or are doomed to an afterlife burning in some make believe pit with a red man wielding a pitchfork.

People tend to make fun of something and worse when they don't understand it, that's human nature. truthfully a lot of the snide remarks stopped after people associated with the store started to explain better what they are all about.  The worst thing of it is that people assume christians aren't going to do these things. Since when are christians not human. I'll probably cause a fight again which isn't my intention but Carpenter's post is what a lot of us have been posting on the religion board, defending their faith. So yes there are those on here who poke fun at and make fun of christians and they defend it, its the nature of the board. I'm not saying that's how it should be, but that is how it is. I'm glad you support Practically enchanted and all who are involved in the store but there are better ways to show it. I myself would love to go there and see what its like and try some sweets and I will as soon as I can get over there sometime.

I think the problem is most people think we are going to force our beliefs on them.  We do not attempt to change people.  Everyone has their own path.  Follow your heart and love everyone.

We do hold a lot of classes, and they are for the Wiccan/Pagan community.  One of the things all of my students have to learn is the History of the Bible.  They also learn about Malleus Maleficarum.  I teach things about Catholicism, Kabbalah, Gnosticism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Taoism.  Students get a chance to read things like the Ancient Sumerian Text The Epic of Gilgamesh. We discuss many things.

Coming into the store is not going to make you Pagan.  Being pagan is a way of life and it does not happen overnight.  We recognize that our way is not the only way and we also provide stuff for our Christian brothers and sisters.

A good friend told me of the conversation that was taking place here and so I registered so that I could put my two cents in. As a Christian mother, I was horrified to discover that for one we have such a store in the community and that for two there is mention of a coven in the community as well. Maybe we are at the end of days. The people who run this store seem adamant that we come in and talk to them but guess what, that is how the devil ensnares people and I for one will not be a part of it. I will not support such a business and I cannot believe that the community center is letting them have an event there.  May the Lord bless and keep us all.

^^ um.

I claim core Christian beliefs, but I'm not going to get the pitch-forks and tourches out because there is 'such a store' in the community.  I find it much harder to get worked up about this than I do, ohhhh say the store that sells pot pipes and related paraphenallia under the guise of it being "for the legal comsumption of tobacco products".

When was the last time anyone smoked a ciggarette through a hollow glass tube anyway....   ???

Anyhow, lets not let this thread turn into a 'you're going to hell over your beliefs' thread - I'd recommend such discussion be saved for the 'religion' thread, er opinion thread....

We have been in this community far longer than you can probably imagine.  The store has been open for 6 years.  We are not going anywhere.  Obviously, we have not been a problem for you thus far, so maybe that should tell you something.  I believe Jesus taught that we should love everyone.  Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.  As I have said before, people are entitled to their own personal beliefs.  Just because we believe in something different than you, does not make us horrible and wretched people.
May we all be Blessed by Lord and Lady!  Blessed Be!

i could be rude about your comments and feelings, but i am better then that. there are too many people in this world for us all to be the same. pagans are here as well as everywhere else. this world is full of difference. why do people refuse to accept it? we are not here to corrupt anyone. we want to live and let live. you say those are the words of the devil speaking through us. i say they are the words of a human wanting to be accepted for who they are. so good for you for sticking to your guns, but realize we are here and that's not going to change regardless of your support or not. -my two cents-

Do wiccan's believe in evolution or creation?
Title: Re: Practically Enchanted....Awesome store!
Post by: silvanusmoonspirit on September 14, 2008, 01:19:17 PM
Wiccans have various creation stories, depending upon the path of the individual Wiccan.  Many believe that from chaos came the Goddess.  She created the God.  Upon their union, the universe(s) were created.

I personally tie the creation in with Evolution.  I do not believe that the divine said I want to make man today and poof he was there.  I think the Goddess and God gave the world what it needed for life to grow and flourish.  I think they watched over the evolution of the Earth and (at times) guided it in the right direction.  But that is just my personal opinion.

Do wiccan's believe in evolution or creation?

this thread started out as an advertisement for a business. I really don't care who owns the business. but to use that business to promote a wiccan religion (or vice versa), negative responses should not be unexpected. But many churcshes are doing the same thing on tv. You can say what you want but you are making wicca commerce. just like the tv guys selling tapes and books about christianity. you can invite people to come in and see what goes on,what you sell , and talk. but it is a ploy for acceptance of a non christian religion.
That would not stop me from coming in as there may be something of interest,I don't ask the religious beliefs of every business I go into.

How are we making Wicca a commerce?  Because we are providing people with a place where they can buy books, and magickal supplies.  Most of our products do not even deal with the Wiccan aspect.  Most of the products are things that everday people use.  We hand-make incense, teas, and bath products.  I thought everyone took baths/showers.  We also carry candles (everyone burns candles).  We carry clothing, jewelry,  baked goods, and scrapbooking supplies. It seems as though many people think we start badgering people when they come into the store.  That is not what happens at all.  People come into the store, we ask if we can help them find anything.  We tell them if they have any questions or need any help to please let us know.  We help them in whatever way we can.  I only wish Wal-Mart had that good of customer service.

I have my 4th degree in Wicca and Witchcraft.  I have been practicing the Craft for 15 years.  I am an ordained minister, teacher, and Elder of the the Wiccan community.  It is my responsibility to the Wiccan community to provide them with the knowledge and guidance they need as they are the future.  I donate a good 30-40 hours a week of my time to teaching classes and providing them with information they need.  The store allows us to network and have a place to meet.  It is our home away from home.  Last I checked, the store pays taxes.  It doesn't hide behind the tax exempt thing that the churches do.  Although, if we wanted to, I could fill out all the paper work and form a Wiccan Church.

this thread started out as an advertisement for a business.
That would not stop me from coming in as there may be something of interest,I don't ask the religious beliefs of every business I go into.

your own words: you are providing people with a place where they can BUY books and majickal supplies. not all your products are wiccan but some are. why don't you give them away? I slam the churches for doing the same thing and for not paying taxes.

they are a business. they shouldn't be giving their stuff away if they are trying to run a business. i don't see them as being any different from any of the other businesses in the area.

You don't get to argue two different sides.  Your using a double account.  Cut the crap.

Fish, we are a BUSINESS!  We sell things and PAY sales tax.  As a business, we sell Wiccan/Pagan supplies so that the Wiccan/Pagan community doesn't have to drive to Springfield or St. Louis to buy their supplies.  It saves gas money and shipping fees!

No Fish, that is called making a living. Don't see you all bent out of shape over the Christian Book Store that was (or maybe still is) out by the first shopping center outside post.
Same as that store, they are only making a living.

I support their right to have a store and sell what they want.  That's what is so great about this country.  You don't get run out or killed because of your beliefs.  You can support them or not by buying their product and ideals.  As I have stated before I choose not to but support their right to exist and do business.

not bent out of shape at all on either stores. the wicca store is going beyond just selling goods, their right and choice. but they are making a profit promoting their religious beliefs. I slam the churches that are doing the same thing.

So the Bible book store is NOT making a profit selling their religious beliefs?  This is America, and anyone has the right to make money by any legal means. Would it be OK to sell Wicca products if you were not a Wicca so that you are not selling items of your religious beliefs?
They are running a legit store, items they sell are taxed, those taxes help this community, what is the difference from what they are selling and McDonald's? Each one has a product and apparently there is a consumer that wants this product.
By your reasoning, then we need to out law all stores from selling Bibles and Cross necklaces as these are religious items based upon their beliefs.

Commerce:  The buying and selling of goods, especially on a large scale, as between cities or nations.

Any business would be a commerce.  This could be why they pay SALES TAXES!  Interesting concept, don't you think?

The Wiccan religion has been out in the public for a very long time.  Apparently, you have lived a very sheltered life.  The store does not teach religion or attempt to force religion on anyone.  Practically Enchanted provides the Wiccan/Pagan community with a place to purchase their supplies.  I don't forsee someone taking the time to learn how to melt down metal and pour athames or swords.  Although, that would be absolutely awesome to learn.

As an Elder and teacher, I give workshops and classes.  I also teach independent studies and accelerated programs.  The store is open for all walks of life, not just Wiccan.

This is one stie that lists quite a few of the stones and their meanings.

You hang the Missouri weather stone from a string and hang out your window. You swing it out side. if it comes back wet, it is raining, if it comes back dry, it is not raining, if it comes back white, it is snowing and if you swing it out and it does not come back, you don't want to go outside

magnets are proven to help with pain. i have a wrist brace i wear at work sometimes cause i do alot of repetative work on a register. i can notice the difference when i am not wearing. my wrist tends to hurt more then when i have it on.

Pro shops at golf courses have been selling those bracelets for years. I got one in my bag. For me, the jury is still out on it. My dad seems to think it helps him though. I guess I will find out when my wrists start to hurt.

I have no idea where you get your information, but you couldn't be more wrong! I am pagan and married, and I take my vows seriously. You may want to do a little more research before speaking out. There are a lot of pagans that are also happily married and none of them do anything like what you suggested, and as a pagan I really don't appreaciate you putting us all in the same category with wanna be's or perv's. evewry one I know is totally faithful to their loved ones!!! There's far more extra marital affairs that go on in other religions than this one.

The expansion is getting underway. We are working out some final details with the building before getting the final inspection. Can't wait to see it when it is finished.

will you have any witch brooms for sale? they are perfect for sweeping out the truck, although you might have multi purposes for them LOL LOL . I still haven't heard anything about the vanilla scented candles. about a month until firearm deer season. I hate wal mart, don't make me go there.. I would truly go anywhere else to find the candles..

i am sure they do. they have a pretty good sized selection. also, you can check with price cutter. they sell some good candles too. there are some by starbucks, just inside the door, and then over in the laundry detergent isle if you want to check for yourself.

this thread started out as an advertisement for a business.

Well...this is blatantly a WRONG statement.  I LEDCHICK started this thread because........I went into the store for the first time and wanted to share the variety of unique items that can be found there as WELL as the fine baked goods that are offered..
To suggest that I started this as an advertisement for the business well.....looks like someone else is looking for another reason to dislike this business without any knowledge whatsoever of the actual subject!!!!

I am very disappointed that the entire community can come together to hate and judge but cannot seem to do the same on more 'important issues'
This is our community and business and commerce are a Good thing....especially in this day and age. Personal religious beliefs should not come into play.....If I quit shopping at business that employed Christians or Baptist would anyone tell me I was wrong???????
I might make you feel.....But I can't make you THINK!  Oh and this is all a ploy! lol

read it again ledchick ,I said I don't care who owns a business,I don't care about their beliefs. you were sharing your shopping experience which is an ad for the business, nothing wrong with that, nothing wrong with shopping there. but the store  also promotes wicca which a few have disagreements with. did you miss I was asking if they carried certain candles? I would go there for the candles if I don't find them somewhere else first. I believe christmas, easter and halloween are pagan rituals, but I still shop at the stores that promotes them. take a breath. there is no mention of hate!

This thread was started in the "opinion" section.  She was giving her opinion, not advertising a store.  I can say I like the food at Olive Garden but I'm not advertising it.  It's an opinion, agree or don't.

I think everybody know how I feel about Wiccan, and that I probably won't support it either BUT, I defend her right to tell us her opinion of the store.   :th_gen129:

it is called word of mouth advertising. the best and worse (depending on the info) type of advertising for a business.

I stopped in Practically Enchanted about a week ago to purchase some herbs and a card. Very nice,
helpful people . The prices were very reasonable and they had a wide variety of merchandise. Candles,
books, clothing, jewelry and more.  Something for everyone.  I welcome any new business to the
area. I am so sick of Walmart.

That is all you ever do, preach, and postulate, explain, and interpret. Making sure to describe how right you always are and how wrong everybody else is.Too bad you aren't half as astute as you think you are.

We have a vendor that makes candles.  I can see if she can make up some vanilla ones.  If you just need the scent, we can mix up the fragrance for you.

too late silva, my wife found some at the bx (of all places) saturday. I'll try them to see how they are. I tried vanilla out of the bottle before, but I think the candles work better because of the oils in them or whatever it is that makes the scent last longer. thanks anyway.

Price Cutter has some really strong vanilla candles, saw them yesterday and thought of you.  They are in the isle by the cards.   They smell good.

The Tri-City Renaissance Society is sponsoring a Food Drive for Pathways.  Practically Enchanted is one of the drop-off spots for canned food/nonperishable items.  Anything will help those who have very little.  Thanks for your help and support!
