I heard from a reliable source that there was a fatality this time.

SEPT. 29-EARLY MORNING FIRE CLAIMS WAYNESVILLE RESIDENT'S LIFE

(WAYNESVILLE)--A WAYNESVILLE RESIDENT IS DEAD FOLLOWING AN EARLY MORNING FIRE AT ONE OF THE BUILDINGS AT BROOKVIEW APARTMENTS IN THE WEST PART OF TOWN.
POLICE CHIEF BOB CARTER SAYS HIS DEPARTMENT, THE WAYNESVILLE RURAL FIRE DEPARTMENT, AND THE PULASKI COUNTY AMBULANCE DISTRICT RESPONDED TO A CALL REPORTING THE FIRE IN BUILDING NUMBER 7 AT AROUND 3 O' CLOCK THIS MORNING.
PULASKI COUNTY AMBULANCE TRANSPORTED A 58-YEAR-OLD WOMAN, IDENTIFIED AS JIMMIE L. TURK, TO THE GENERAL LEONARD WOOD ARMY COMMUNITY HOSPITAL FOR EMERGENCY TREATMENT. TURK WAS LATER PRONOUNCED DEAD BY HEALTH OFFICIALS.
THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS UNDETERMINED AND IS BEING INVESTIGATED BY THE PULASKI COUNTY RURAL FIRE DEPARTMENT. THIS MORNING'S FIRE WAS IN A DIFFERENT BUILDING THAN THE ONE THAT WAS STRUCK BY LIGHTNING IN A THUNDERSTORM LAST WEEK.
I have it on good authority that the Hokey-Pokey really IS what it's all about.

The fatality is real. My article is posted below. HOWEVER ... as recently at 1 p.m., the Waynesville fire department was not releasing the name of the person who died and the Waynesville police weren't releasing it until shortly after noon. County Coroner Mikel Hartness has now confirmed that the next of kin has been notified.

The fires were in two completely unrelated buildings and have two completely unrelated causes -- a lightning strike last week Monday and an apparent smoking-in-bed situation today.

Brookview blaze kills Waynesville woman early Tuesday morning
WAYNESVILLE, Mo. (Sept. 29, 2009) — An early morning Tuesday fire sent emergency personnel to the Brookview Apartments for the second blaze in eight days, this time involving the death of a woman who lived in the bottom set of apartments closest to the apartment complex entrance. According to County Corner Mikel Hartness, next-of-kin have been notified that Jimmie L. Turk, 58, was pronounced dead at General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital. Waynesville Rural Fire Chief Doug Yurecko said she was transported from her apartment by Pulaski County Ambulance District personnel after having been found unconscious and unresponsive and suffering from severe smoke inhalation. “The damage was confined mostly to the bed; she fell asleep smoking,” Yurecko said. Tuesday morning’s fire had no connection to a Sept. 21 blaze caused by a lightning strike in the 300 block of apartments that also led to the evacuation of eight apartments but no injuries. Wasn't intending to make an accusation, and please accept my sincere apologies for implying that you or somebody else did. I have not read the vast majority of what is on the Pulaski County Web for some time and I just noticed this thread after posting my own article.
