Glad to see the time in now right and I for one shall vote yes on the ballot. I would urge all others to do the sameour county is busting at the seams crimewise and no matter how many bad guys we send off there always seems to someone to replace them. The Sheriff's Office needs the help.

I have a real problem with this.  She chose to run and should accept her losses as each of us would have to do if we raised money we did not have to start with.  Seems to me to be an end run and she will get away with it of course.  The God-Like courts have already said so.

McCaskill allowed to exceed campaign finance limits
By Adam Sichko
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
03/22/2007

WASHINGTON – Federal election commissioners unanimously ruled this morning that Sen. Claire McCaskill can collect unlimited donations to pay back a $1.6 million campaign debt from 2004 – but she said she’ll impose her own limits.

The ruling affirms a preliminary ruling issued Friday, and reported in the Post-Dispatch. The Federal Election Commission found that McCaskill, D-Mo., qualifies for an exemption from federal campaign laws that restrict the pool of potential donors and the amounts they can contribute.

Instead, McCaskill can now follow a Missouri law that erased campaign finance limits for state races. That law took effect this year, but it’s being appealed in the Missouri court system.

McCaskill’s office said she will cap donations to no more than:

$4,600 from individuals or corporate donors. That’s the total money that a congressional candidate can accept from those sources during the primary and general election campaigns; $10,000 from a political action committee – the legal limit under federal laws; $0 from lobbyists.

"This is a logical framework," said Adrianne Marsh, McCaskill’s spokeswoman. Marsh added that the senator does not agree with the Missouri law that she can now follow in lieu of federal campaign laws.

"It was always about getting an understanding to do this appropriately and fairly," Marsh said. "It’s very clear now, and we can now move forward and ensure that we get this taken care of as quickly as possible."

http://www.fec.gov/

These are the people hand appointed by Bush to the FEC who ruled 5-0 (not a court, but the FEC) to allow a Democrat to follow the new Missouri state law (passed by Republicans) that erased the limits in state races.

Thank you for the correction.  The premise still stands.  She took the risks.  She should have to pay, regardless of which dimwits allow her to collect from others.

These are private donations; why even bother getting your panties in a bunch over it?  If private citizens want to help her payoff her debt (which, by the way, is not only routine but SOP for the losing politician), what does it matter to you?  You act like she's the first and only to do this.

It is the point, they lifted the ceiling on donations that bothers me.  And with this in force, she is the first to do it this way.  I don't believe her for one moment about her "self imposed" ceilings and neither should you.  They are all crooks.

What is crooked?  She is paying off campaign debts- things like advertising costs and such.  This is after the fact payoff of debt incurred while running for office- meaning she can't raise more than she owes, nor can she spend it on anything but to pay off her debt.  Whether it comes to her $1 at a time or $10 million at a time, does it even matter?

Not really Winston.  Good reasoning on your part.  I just can't stand the woman.  She represents everything in politics that I just can't stand.  She lied to us before and she just won't stop.  She certainly represents the liberal city folks though.
