  • Valor7: Actually no it is not, a dependable Revenue stream will not come on line until the 4th quarter of 2017 so 2018 budget will be up in the air, not quite sure what they will have. By 2019 budget all will be well.

  • Valor7: I could have worded that better, we talked details, options, the pros and cons of each, in  order to arrive at the best ballot language to present to the voters. Hope that makes this clearer.

  • Valor7: sorry about the typos still working with just one arm in action
    April 13, 2016, 01:10:42 PM
  • Valor7: Yes and no. We talked details and options until we were blue in the face but I never heardbring it over, it was always the time was not right for the issue to pass. Glad to see the time in now right and I for one shall vote yes on the ballot. I would urge all others to do the sameour county is busting at the seams crimewise and no matter how many bad guys we send off there always seems to someone to replace them. The Sheriff's Office needs the help.

You probably never stopped to think if where you live has anything to do with the number of prescription medications you're taking. But if you live in the American South, chances are you take more medications than you would if you lived on the other side of the Mason-Dixon Line.
In fact, when it comes to residents popping the largest numbers of pills, Southern states beat the average by a long shot. States filled an average 11.1 retail prescriptions per capita in 2006, according to the latest figures compiled by the non-profit Kaiser Family Foundation's statehealthfacts.org and Vector One: National, data provider Verispan's national-level prescription and patient tracking service.
Well above that average is West Virginia, which came in first with 17.2 retail prescriptions filled per capita, followed by Missouri, 15.9; Tennessee, 15.8; Alabama, 15.7; and Kentucky, 15.4.

I wonder if the number of elderly people in the south has an effect on these numbers?

Is this because Drs are purely more willing to prescribe drugs willy nilly in those states - or are people in those areas more prone to diseases and conditions that require multiple prescriptions?  Do more senior citizens live in those areas needed prescriptions for BP, and Cholesterol, and blank and blank and blank - I'm thinking of my mother back east who has 6 or 7 different ones herself - some times she'll need more for a few weeks or so.

I think it may be a combination of things.  The fact that the older generation flock to warmer areas has a major impact on it.  Missouri isnt exactly a retirement state although part of the bible belt may als attract the older population. It may be the diet us rural folk enjoy, steaks, biscuits and gravy etc that lead ust to heart disease and diabetes.  It seems like the population centers like the North East other large cities seem to follow fads such as fake-soy foods (I prefer living through modern medicine  - lipid meds so I can have all the steak I want)...back to the subject ... So as a "rural folk" myself, I can attest to letting myself go a bit too.  This tends to catch up to us getting fat, having strokes and heart attacks, diabetes etc...much of which is preventable considering lifestyle modification (exercise, eating right, not smoking doing illicit drugs...) (I know some people have fam hx of these disease, but still benefit from lifestyle mods)

So yeah, I bet smoking is actually less likely in the non-pill popping areas too.  Also look at state insurances like Medicaid...I would be med use is higher in those areas too.

just mty 2c  :-) nite

I can't help but wonder if people from the north are going to Canada for cheaper drugs.
