October 24, 2008  Frank Calls for Major Defense Cuts, 'Eventual' Tax Hike @ 10:21 am by Hill Staff  Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) said Democrats will push for a stimulus package after the November election, and called for a package reducing defense spending by 25 percent while saying Congress will "eventually" raise taxes.
Frank told the editorial board of the SouthCoast Standard-Times that he wanted to reduce defense spending by a quarter, meaning the United States would have to withdraw from Iraq sooner.
"The people of Iraq want us out, and we want to stay over their objection," he said. "It's extraordinary."
Frank also said the post-election stimulus package will focus on spending for building projects, extending unemployment benefits, and further supporting states' healthcare costs. "We'll have to raise taxes ultimately," Frank said. "Not now, but eventually." Frank told the Standard-Times that if Democrats cannot secure the votes they need in November, they will try again in January, when they will likely have stronger majorities in the House and Senate.
Frank, the Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, was an instrumental figure in engineering the bailout legislation to the U.S. financial industry, and indicated a new package may seek to ameliorate fears about investing. "The psychological problem is even worse than the real problem," Frank said.

Military cuts when we so need to keep our defense strong?  Let me get this right, Biden is warning of an international crisis within 6 months IF Obama is elected, AND they want to cut military funding?  Sounds like a set up to me.

They could probably cut 25% by just getting rid of Haliburton and Blackwater. We need to stop paying companies and contractors exponentially more than we pay our soldiers.

Being "old Army", I never liked how "civilianized" our military has become.  So many jobs our military once did is now done by civilians, being paid so much more then our troops!  Very possible it's because we no longer have the draft, thus can't fill all the positions. Since my views concerning a draft would most probably start a heated discussion, I'll remain quiet there (Yes, I actually can remain quiet, when I feel it best).

I've talked with some who are Obama supporters (even family members) and they were under the misconception that Obama will bring "peace", that he's going to bring our troops home.  Did they not hear that he wants a build up of troops in Afghanistan?  I know for a fact that those I spoke with were shocked when I informed them that Obama wants to build up our forces in Afghanistan, and leave some troops in Iraq.  My own nephew was under that same misconception!  I suggested they reseach it, not just take my word for it.  It was brought out that Obama didn't have that he was going to build up our military forces in Afghanistan on his website but, upon further research they found what I said to be true.  The next question was, how would a smaller troop presence in Iraq prevent an Iranian influence?  Duh, why was this thought not part of the equation when they were talking about "peace", "bringing our troops home"?  One excellent question I was asked was, "if we pull our troops out of Iraq and go further and stronger into Afghanistan, won't that allow militant forces in Iraq the ability to build up?"  Though I agree, we do need to finish up the job in Afghanistan, the previous question (asked by an Obama supporter) is one that we all need to ask ourselves.

Nothing we can do will stop Iranian influence. We took out our ally against Iran. If Iran is the real threat, we should have never taken out Saddam. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Unfortunately, Iraq has a democracy now. They can vote us out, and befriend whomever they choose. That's the beauty of it all. They are going to screw us with the freedom we gave them.

Isreal will take out iran.
I was stationed here when the facilities engineers went contract. the military went back to the combat engineer companies and almost 300 civil service slots were deleted. It makes sense to have the military practice their wartime tasks in their units. the air force is doing much of the same. I think some of this may have been the result of reagans privatization plan.

nobama has said he will cut defense. he said he will cut r&d on new weapons programs and reduce the nuclear arsenal. nobama will not defend this country.

He wants to cut defense but, build up troops in Afghanistan.....

What concerns me with Israel taking out Iran is, IF Obama is elected... will he stand by Israel or will he condemn that tiny country like the rest of the world usually does?  Sometimes I think people forget how small Israel is.  The map below shows in yellow, all the Muslim dominated Countries.  The red spot, is Israel.

How do you propose Israel "take out" Iran? Iran has a relatively big and well trained Army. Not to mention, if they "take out" Iran, they will lose sympathy from the rest of the world.

lol, that is funny, "lose sympathy from the rest of the world"!  Almost every Nation in the UN is against Israel.  Wonder why they fear such a tiny little country?

which countries support israel? none of the ones that surround it.

Israel has demonstrated in the past they shouldn't be messed with. read up on the yom kippur war and the 6 day war. when it involves survival of their country israel is best left alone.

Its fascinating how adults make up stories just to scare themselves.

Its like the past 8 years never happened so they need to make up a boogie man while Freddy Kruger is wiping the blood off his blades behind you.

What I find amazing is how adults would rather just listen to what is fed them, then to research things for themselves!  lol, also funny how those "karma" points go down everytime you visit something I've posted on or about.....  Bring facts to the table, not lines that may have been fed to you or that which you want to believe.

Kari is probably a better authority on Israel than any of us on this board.  She is Jewish and proud of it too.  Perhaps facts would be better along with logic, but you don't deal in them Winston.  You, like Obama deal in emotions with no substance to your form of reasoning.  As for me, having been to the Middle East, I wondered why it took Israel 6 entire days to win that war?  I suppose they outran their supply lines is the real reason.

I don't know Kari however just because she is of the Jewish Faith doesn't make her an expert on Israel.

Israel dominated the six days war through air superiority. They preemptively striked their opponents air fields, and then they ruled the skies. The six days war was the beginning of air superiourity by the IAF in the middle east. The IAF is regarded as one of the greatest air forces in the world.
