Glad to see the time in now right and I for one shall vote yes on the ballot. I would urge all others to do the sameour county is busting at the seams crimewise and no matter how many bad guys we send off there always seems to someone to replace them. The Sheriff's Office needs the help.

Nope, I did. Thats when I posted it on the scanner post at 10:13pm. Just thought it odd that 4 or 5 cops are trying to find the driveway flashing their lights into my parents place during the process, then finding the correct driveway. Then 5 or 10 mins later an ambulance shows up.
Just that cops were called during a call that an ambulance was needed.

I have some friends that live in that area too, he is a volunteer firefighter. I'll ask him if he knows anything.
Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, So love the people who treat you right, Forget the ones who don't, and believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said it would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

Because of federal, state laws; and our strict patient privacy belief I cannot give specific information. It was a medical emergency and the patient was stable. The police were there because of the nature of the call at first. But, they were not needed. It is nice of them to respond to insure our safety, and then when not needed they can be cancelled. They are very nice to work with.

I have it on all the time I just don't pay attention to it all the time~ I have selective hearing, like I listen for my kids or something like that~ I figure someone with medical problems doesn't need their business spread all over the internet..jmo..

Sorry I missed this discussion, but I'm glad Gary Carmack answered. FYI, I've had major computer problems recently and eventually had to buy a new computer while my old laptop was in the shop. I do have a backup, but it's an old desktop that is too slow to use on the internet on any graphics-intensive pages, which means I couldn't access Pulaski County Web or the site management system for the Pulaski County Daily for nearly a week.

However, here's an answer to the question behind the question since I think it will interest readers how I do my work.

Those who are scannerhounds know that emergency personnel are being called out all the time for all kinds of stuff. Just a few minutes ago, there was a fire report on Vicki Lynn Lane in St. Robert that turned out to be a controlled burn. We want our firefighters responding immediately to everything, but there are two ambulance districts, five police departments, one sheriff's department, seven fire districts, one civilian and one military fire department, and one fire association covering all or part of Pulaski County, and I can't possibly respond to every report of a fire, car crash or medical call.

For many years on three different newspapers, my policy has been to wait until I hear one of the following on the scanner:

1. A residential or commercial structure fire with flames showing.
2. A rollover car crash.
3. A car crash with confirmed personal injuries by emergency responders.
4. An unusual car crash (i.e., smashing into a building, hanging off a bridge, into a river)
5. Major crime that's likely to generate a photograph or will attract the attention of media outside the area, but for which I'm not going to be a problem at the crime scene.

Certain high-interest types of incidents such as school fires, school bus crashes, or wrecks of government vehicles will trigger a response even if there is no injury or major damage.

I generally won't go to medical calls for several reasons: there are huge numbers of them, most of them are not of any interest to the general public, and because of medical confidentiality, I generally can't get much information about them, anyway.

The ideal in police reporting is that people should be able to pick up their hometown newspaper and know each day that they'll have an answer to "what were those sirens about last night." The same applies to an internet news source -- just faster. Of course some stuff will get missed, but if you don't have a goal, you'll be sure not to get anywhere.

Since internet is faster than print, I ought to also add that because of notification of relatives, I will not be printing information about many crashes and fires until I have clearance from fire or law enforcement authorities confirming that my article won't be the way next-of-kin find out their loved one has died or been seriously injured.

Regards,
DTM
