There's a lot of chatter about some very bad people afoot in Waynesville tonight. Subjects are allegedly armed and considered dangerous. There's a need to check your surroundings and neighbors in west Waynesville tonight, and give the WPD a call if you see anything suspicious.

I've been monitoring this all night. This started as a car crash on I-44; when rescue personnel arrived, they found nobody in the vehicle. I got ready to go out to photograph the wreck, which sounded suspicious and I thought was probably a DWI, when I heard the vehicle turned out to be stolen by two people who are possibly involved in a murder in another state.

At that point I realized my presence on the crash scene would be a disruption and decided I could get the same information via scanner as being physically present, although I warned my wife to keep her office and car doors locked at all times.

There may be some good news based on reports just minutes ago. I've been holding off on saying anything since I don't want to impede a police investigation. But hopefully we'll see something soon.

I've just called the St. Robert Police and Missouri State Highway Patrol.

I'm not going to put anything out until they determine it's appropriate to comment, but I've asked the state patrol PIO if his agency can release something in light of developments within the last hour.

The internet can be a blessing or a curse when it comes to real-time coverage of crime, just like radio and TV. If I were in New York or St. Louis or even Springfield, I'd be all over this posting live updates for the last couple of hours because those communities are used to live breaking news with TV reporters at major crime scenes.

That's not the way things have been done here and I don't think the public interest is served by pushing the limits. It is why I wrote nothing on this board until the subject came up on its own.

I'm going to make a strong request that this discussion topic not include any further updates until the police issue something -- the public purpose has been served by warning people of bad guys out there, and anything beyond what's been said already will not help the police or the public.

Two arrested at Greyhound depot after Saturday manhunt
ST. ROBERT, Mo. ó Police from four law enforcement agencies descended on St. Robertís Greyhound bus station Saturday evening after receiving a tip that two fugitives might be at the station. A man and woman whose names havenít yet been released were arrested at the bus depot and turned over to the Missouri State Highway Patrol for questioning, after what patrol spokesman Sgt. Danny Crain called ďa very intensive search for the two individuals.Ē That search began after what initially appeared to be a relatively minor crash of a 1994 Nissan minivan at 5:10 p.m. at mile marker 159 in St. Robert. Firefighters found the vehicle had crashed in the westbound lanes but the occupants had fled. After checking the license plates, law enforcement personnel discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen in another state. The out-of-state reporting agency told troopers that the people believed to have taken the vehicle were considered dangerous suspects from another incident. Read More ...

I will comment only to say that this story is not yet over, there will be more news coverage in the days to follow.

Yes we do seem to luck out when it comes to having bad guys from other states show up in our county.

I would like to say job well done to the MSHP, WPD, SRPD, and of course my deputies in the quick arrest of these two slugs under very nasty cold weather conditions.

I would like to thank all of the law enforcement agencies involved in an expeditious capture of these potentially dangerous individuals.  :woohoo: I'm glad my car wasn't jacked last night and all my chill-ins were safe and warm as a bug in a rug.It was over in what seems to be a short time. Shhh(I was listening to my scanner intently). In a small town like this we don't need anymore pond scum floating through here. l feel we have enough of that kinda stuff with the transient population. Like Forest Gump said -"Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what ur'e gonna get."  I say fat. ;D   We do need more law enforcement  and I'm sure our Sheriff is working on that but, I'm just glad they were caught so quickly. Me and my family slept  well last night knowing the deputies and officers of Pulaski county were out there in the freezing-cold and doing their job of protecting the citizens of this area.I applaude your Valor and Courage. Go PCPD !!!!!!

Missed all the excitement last night.  I was tucked in nice and warm when this thread started as I have been fighting off cold and chills.  Great job to all the LE involved and that includes all the commo people too.  Without them, the search could have been much longer and much more dangerous.  Sounds like a great bust as nobody seems to have been hurt and there was no shoot out.

Thanks to all LE Depts involved.  A good job of working together again as usual.

I have to agree with that we do need more LE Officers.  I wonder how many off duty Officers turned out for this hunt.

All LE officers involved do deserve a big pat on the back. I know that in a very short time they had all local businesses notified of what was going, what they were wanted for, and how dangerous they were. Then all i know is that after a little while, i seen every police car to come from the ford factory in its history go flyin by.

Well, in defense of WPD, the Highway Patrol was the arresting agency.

At the Greyhound station it would have to be MSHP or the Sheriff's Dept. as the station is in the County.

So when is somebody gonna release why the manhunt was intense? Its been two days with two articles and nobody is gonna tell the public why louisville police were lookin for them and why they stole a car? I think the public deserves to know, even though im sure most people do. Just like when this manhunt was goin on and some people were all hush hush. The people need to know when there is a killer or possibly 2 in the area. Not dont say anything because it may hurt the investigation. The more people that know whats goin on, the better. Obviously since they walked into the bus station who was already notified by the cops and someone seen them, they called.  Just my opinion.  And no im not talkin about any reporters here to clear that up just in case.

All I know right now is two people with those same names are, according to the Louisville media, wanted by police in that state on suspicion of murder. The Kentucky media are saying the two people were arrested in another state and are not specifying Missouri, let alone Pulaski County.

I know what KY-3 and KJPW-KFBD are reporting. I had that information on Saturday but police couldn't confirm it and am waiting for documents which I expect to get at the courthouse today.

To report more than that without documents or a confirmation from law enforcement officials is to risk a libel lawsuit -- a news department staff member at a newspaper for which I previously worked was fired for doing something very similar when it turned out a person with identical first and last names but a different middle name was wanted for murder.

This isn't an attack on KFBD or KY-3. They may have information from the Louisville police that I don't have. I hope to have that confirmed within the day.

Darrell Todd Maurina
