I've noticed these cameras at pretty much every traffic light in St.Robert and Waynesville, does anyone know exactly what it's purposes are? I've lived in other states such as Washington and we've had cameras that catch cars going past the speed limit and got a ticket in the mail. I was wondering if these cameras were for the same reason,to capture an accident at an intersection or are they there to make people think they're on camera at an intersection??

Are they cameras, or those devices that perch on top of the light so that an ambulance can go straight through?  Something on the emergency vehicle (with traffic lights so equipped) will 'trip' the device and the light will change to let the emergency vehicle through.

Many of them are the new system of capturing the cars waiting for a left turn green arrow. The device tells the light system there is a car waiting and to activate the left turn arrow in the correct sequence.

And to think all this time I thought they were cameras to catch red light runners.

Wow!!!  I hate to do this but if my old memory is still working all those units do is detect the presence of a large metal mass parked in the left turn lane, sort of like the MAD gear the U. S. Navy uses to locate a submarine that is under water by locating the metal hull. The detection unit is in an aircraft that overflys the sub and bang the metal in the sub spikes the unit. (MAD, Magnetic Anomaly Detection)

This could turn into a heated debate, maybe I better do a little checking to make sure my feeble memory still works. I have not made a mistake for at least 65 minutes now and I am about due. Maybe that was five minutes apart.......

When you sign up for this site it automatically installs a chip in your brain, and my scanners, that you think are cameras, can then control your thoughts, and actions. Paranoid people remember, I am watching you.

                  JB

After the last 2 nights of too many calls/not enough officers  I am not sure but I did read an article yesterday that said $3/gal gas is not too far off again.

I bet call volume wins because it is early spring and we slow down later at night.  Wait til school gets out, then it's all day and all night!  %%$%$$#

Exactly, but back to the original subject.  Has anyone noticed that if you are sitting at a red light on Missouri Av., and the light turns green, you had better look before you leap if you don't want to get hit.  I don't think I have ever seen so many red light runners.

No offense was taken on this end. I have not had time to check my source, actually that should read I cannot seem to REMEMBER to check my source, and I may be wrong about the "camera's". I think I am right but it has been at least five minutes since my last mistake.

I can't believe all the crap that gets dumped on you JB.  It is like you just don't fit their "good ole boy" mold.  To that I say Hooray.  I appreciate everything you work very hard to accomplish and having to fight tooth and nail to do that.  I don't believe I have ever seen a place fight so hard to make it as difficult for a County Sheriffs Department to do their job as they do here.  Even through all the negativity JB you manage to keep your chin up and just keep chugging.  I can never say often enough THANK YOU to you and deputies for keeping us and our property as save as can with you hands tied at every turn.  Please dont let them get you down and please know there are an awful lot of us out here who do appreciate the Sheriffs Department.

I think there is at least a 5 to 1 ratio of positive to negative postings for JB, and I think it is because because he's willing to take the good with the bad that he get's so much support.

I'm not one of those who believe you have to be 100% behind someone or something or you are against them.  Everyone and everything has its good and bad to it, and that includes the SD.  But the good so far outstrips the bad, especially in comparison to the previous sheriff, that the few bad things that inevitably come to light gets far more attention than it perhaps should.

But that is good.  And its only because JB is willing to be honest with the people and to communicate with them via this forum (and by other means, I'm sure) that any of the bad can come out.  It would have been buried so deeply during the previous sheriff's reign that nobody outside of the good ol' boys would have ever known about it.

I think it's an even greater sign of just how refreshingly open and honest JB has been and continues to be that we can praise his accomplishments and fight for his cause in the same forum as his critics can voice their opinions.

That JB is willing to graciously accept the praises and to honestly respond to his critics is unheard of, and a sign that I want this man to be my sheriff until he decides to hang up his badge.  He is able to separate his politics from his profession, to take the criticism with the praise and to do so without ever stooping to the level of dirty politics.

He is truly a unique man and certainly the only person I've ever come across who has done his job in such a highly politically charged environment without losing sight of his professionalism.

I'm way passed the purpose for the cameras. I just want to know why there are so many red light runners and it seems like little is done about it. JMHO

I was talking to a buddy of mine that works for MoDOT.  The cameras, at least most of them, belong to MoDOT.  They use them for traffic counts at intersections.
