they aren't forcing anything. it is going through committee and being voted on. I am quite sure if the majority of  their constituents didn't want it, they would know. It is only in oklahoma so they aren't forcing anything on the nation. but they are setting a good example. what is the purpose of the monument?

Like anything else in our nation we have the freedom of choice as to where we go and what we look at.

I agree.... the 10 Commandments starts "I am the Lord your G_D", that's religion.  Now, if they just want to put, "Thou shalt not steal", "Thou shalt not murder", etc... I'm fine with it.  I do not want my Country advocating any religion.

And what reason does rep Ritze give for having it? It sounds like a good reason to me. people that don't like it, have the freedom to ignore it .

Whatever fish.  It doesn't matter.

You and your religion would be in an uproar though if someone erected a statue of Anton LaVey in a park somewhere.

People who don't like it have the RIGHT to sue, if it is put on any Government grounds.  By putting such a thing up, from the KJV, the State Government would be advocating a religion.

did you miss this part kari?

State Representative Mike Ritze said his bill would authorize installation of a monument similar to the one that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled could remain on the grounds of the Texas State Capitol.

people can sue if they wish, or they could just choose to ignore it.

That is why its not very American.

Who's paying for this?  If someone wants to put up the ten commandments somewhere... I say at least let the church pay the bill.

Though you had better be willing to let other religions erect monuments of their own as well.

Wouldn't ignoring it defeat its purpose?  If you stance is that people can just ignore it... why even put it up to begin with and waste all those hard earned tax dollars?

again dn, read the reason the congressman woants to but the ten commandments out. it isn't to irk non believers, that is just a bonus! LOL

The entertainment getting a statue  would bring would be priceless. not much chance of that happening. If the bill is voted on and taxpayers don't mind, what's the deal. let a satanist congressman do the same. We have a choice to ignore things. of course a statue like that would really make the bird crap stand out, kinda fitting.LOL LOL

The Texas monument was donated by the Fraternal Order of Eagles, did not come from the tax payer.  There was no majority opinion from the SCOTUS which voted 5-4, whereas Kentucky was denied the same with a 5-4 vote.  If, this monument is placed, than Muslims have the right to place quotes from a Qu`ran, Wiccans should be able to place the Pledge to Pagan Spirituality, etc.

I wonder if I could strum up enough people to form a group to put up some alternative religion monuments around Pulaski County...

Hmmm.  I bet I could.
