Went to the St. Robert post office this morning and, parked right in front of the building between two signs that say "no parking on pavement" was a big pickup truck.  I just kinda shook my head and thought that person must be an idiot.  I wish I had a camera so I could send it to Jay Leno.  Then I see two St. Robert police officers walking down the hall and I say to to them "that would make a good picture to send to Leno" they say "oh, that's the judges truck."

So the lesson to be learned here is if you are a judge you don't have to obey the laws you just have to enforce them.   ???

Cops enforce, judge's interpret the law.

You should have gone all Gomer Pyle on him and citizen arrested the judge.

Judge Julian can hardly walk. Give him some slack, after all the years he has served first his country, and since the city of St. Robert.
I have it on good authority that the Hokey-Pokey really IS what it's all about.

Sorry, but in my book, that doesn't earn you the right to break the law.

And a judge, above all other people, should know better and act accordingly.

I've e-mailed St. Robert City Administrator Alan Clark about this thread.

Alan Clark is a retired Marine engineer and a building code official who is known for being a straight shooter and a by-the-book kind of guy. I am confident that if there is a problem, Alan will take care of it -- or he'll give an explanation of what happened and why the judge's action was appropriate, or what I suspect, that it was done in good faith and the judge thought it was OK because he'd been given permission to do what he did.

Now that it's been called to the attention of the public as well as the city administrator, let's all back off a bit and give Alan time to check his e-mail and respond.

I know first hand that the judge has had some serious health issues lately, he is having trouble getting around. He may have just parked there to run in real quick. I have witnessed him parking in the main parking lot several times.

On another note, if it is Judge Julian and he is in bad health, then the right thing to do would be to give him an assigned parking space or take the signs down that say "no parking on pavement."  Just not setting a good example.

I agree and if it was Judge Julian and I'm not saying it was because I don't know who it was, they should reserve him a parking space so he won't have to park in the driveway.  There are spaces on the side of the building they should reserve one for him.

I doubt very much, even if it was Tom,  if he will "be in trouble."  If whoever was parked there was going to be in trouble he would have gotten a ticket at the time.

I've since spoken by phone with Alan Clark. I doubt very much anyone is going to get in trouble, and Clark's guess of what happened (which is something nobody here has said yet), if it's correct, is a reasonable explanation that makes sense to me. But he needs to find out his facts before saying anything publicly, which is entirely appropriate. I don't want to say anything more until Clark has time to follow up.

FWIW, I have no doubt that once this thread started it would have gotten to Alan Clark sooner or later, regardless of my phone call. Things generally go better when people in charge learn about things quickly since bad news does not improve with age.

Does it really make a difference "what happened" to make a citizen park in a no parking zone.  If it was me or you there would be no excuse.  The driveway in front of the municipal center is very narrow.  When there is a truck parked there, there is barely room for one car to go through and you can't possibly get two through it, which it is supposed to be made for.  I'm sure that is why they put the signs up to begin with.

It does if you are a judge, I guess.

It's a little crazy if the municipal judge doesn't have a parking spot of his own.

Not me.  Of all people, a judge, regardless of the situation, must hold him- or herself to the highest of standards.

Which means if you are a judge experiencing serious health issues, you don't break the law and park wherever you want, you have your clerk drop off the letters, or mail them from your home mailbox, or make other arrangements.

Sorry, but I have seen sooooooooooo many people who have been in similar situations get the book thrown at them by the court over minor or technical violations of the law.
