This is the Caveman BBQ under new ownership.
I hear it was bought by Gary Dowd who owns a restaurant in Lebanon.
Their new number is 765-4554.
I hope the best for the new owners.

They are going to work with traditional steak dinners, etc for awhile befor they re-establish the place.  Some renovations to be made as well from what I'm told.  Aaaaand, they will serve alcohol.  Hopefully MO wines.

Dowds in Leb is awesome for sure.

I had catfish from Dowds a year or so ago and I thought it was bad.  Not enough seasoning and too much breading.
When I was young, I wanted to be older.  This is not what I expected!

I don't think I have ever eaten at Dowd's, mostly because I rarely go to Lebanon, but I have always heard good things about them.

I only went to Caveman's once. They said someone would pick me up in the parking lot. I waited, and waited. No one picked me up an I left. Wasn't my greatest dining experience.

We only went to the cave once and that is because the owner at the time told my husband to bring us in and he would cut us a good deal since my husband blades that road, Well we went and was not impressed at all. The steaks were tough and all the food was bland and what that man called a deal was nuts i don't call getting a deal when you pay full price for your meal that wasn't good at all.

We go to dowd's atleast once every 2 weeks our last time we went wasn't very good since the catfish was over cooked but won't stop us from going back since so far only been able to complain 1 time. But I did have to let them know they need to change their "baked beans" I don't like ordering baked beans and getting chili, But the rest of there food is really very good.

Now may have to go back to the cave just to give them another try.
Go ahead and blame me....Everyone else does

Depending on were you go, some baked beans do have some meat in it.  And also depending on who you talk to, a good bowl of chili doesnt have beans.

The essence of chili is "chile" as in peppers. All else it needs is meat and onions. Beans and even tomatoes are optional.

Think Green Chile which can be eaten like soup or like a sauce over other things like burritos.

but if it has meat in it, it becomes chili con carne. just chili by that definition would be nothing but peppers. not for me. I want meat and beans and tomatoes and onions and etc. Wonder what you would call that?

Correct. I expect it has been americanized. But green chile made without meat is still green chile. It is the only kind we ever eat. And some recipes even call for grated potato.

And if you add cheese does it become chili con carne con queso?

Okay, just got back from The Cave.
Where do I start, lol.
It is a great dining experience! They shuttle you in to the restaurant and give a brief history of it. It is a really neat place for sure.
The prices.....not cheap. We are a family of 4 (1/2), and spent $90 including tip. Just meals and drinks.
The food.....not greatly impressed. Had high expectations so we were all a little disappointed.
Husband had the Shrimp Platter, around $16.99 he didn't care for it.
Son had Fettuccine with chicken, $12.99 I think. He didn't like it, daughter tasted it said it was nasty.
Daughter had 12oz Top Sirlion $16.99. Didn't like it because she ordered it medium-well and it came medium-rare. Just too pink for her and she wouldn't let me send it back because she afraid they would spit in it, lol. I tried it and thought it was fine.
I had the oven baked lasagna, $13.99. Was just okay. Ended up eating my daughters steak and she finished my lasagna.
They have only been open a week, so I am hoping the food improves.
Might try it again in a few months.

So the big question--- HOW DO YOU PAY?
The cave took cash only ---- that would kinda hurt with a $90 bill.
And the decor?  still have cave animals all over?
Bats Wings or Chicken Wings?
Bats nest or bloomin onion?  (menu was cave animal theme as well)

We paid by check. Not sure if they take debit cards because I didn't have mine with me. The cave animals are still there but it wasn't a cave theme menu.

He sold Dowds a year or so ago (give or take) and around the same time opened an Italian restaurant on Hwy 5 north of Lebanon.  He had been working on the cave deal for some time from what I have been told.
