Cash for Clunkers: Trade in American; buy foreign
By Dick Morris & Eileen Mc Gann
http://www.JewishWorldReview.com
The only part of the stimulus program that is working, the Cash-for-Clunkers program is, in reality, a subsidy to foreign car companies, proving that Barack Obama is the best president Japan ever had.
The Department of Transportation reports that the ten leading trade-ins are all American branded cars while six of the top ten new cars purchased and four of the top five are foreign. So the United States Senate is about to pass additional funds to subsidize the trade-in of American cars and the purchase of foreign cars.    DOT reports that the following are the ten top trade-ins, all American:
Ten Top Trade-Ins Under Cash for Clunkers
1. Ford Explorer
2. Ford F150 Pickup 2WD
3. Jeep Grand Cherokee 4 WD
4. Jeep Cherokee 4 WD
5. Dodge Caravan/Grand Caravan
6. Chevrolet Blazer 4 WD
7. Ford Explorer 2 WD
8. Ford F150 Pickup 4 WD
9. Chevrolet C1500 Pickup 2 WD
10. Ford Windstar FWD Van
And the top ten new car purchases, subsidized by the American taxpayer, are mainly foreign vehicles:

Top Ten New Car Purchases: Cash for Clunkers
1. Toyota Corolla
2. Ford Focus FWD
3. Honda Civic
4. Toyota Prius
5. Toyota Camry
6. Ford Escape FWD
7. Hyndai Elantra
8. Dodge Caliber
9. Honda Fit
10. Chevrolet Cobalt

Off subject, I rented a Chevy Cobalt when I went to my family reunion that is a great little car.  Wish I could afford to take advantage of the "cash for clunkers" deal I'd get me one.
When I was young, I wanted to be older.  This is not what I expected!

and all those cars are smashed and melted down. none of the parts are to be recycled. how many people go to scrap yards for used parts?

This will only help the automakers, new car dealers, and those that can afford a car payment.

It will really hurt the used car dealers, repair shops, those that can only afford a cheap used car, salvage yards, those that can only afford to keep there old bucket of bolts going by getting parts from the salvage yard.

And how many of those "new" cars on the list will fit a family of 5 when 3 are still in car seats-------  Hmmm I guess we could take 2 cars everywhere........

EXACTLY!  Once again the Obama administration shows its total disregard for small businesses.  This is only gonna get worse before it gets better.  Even the Chamber of Commerce is adamantly against this administration and typically the CofC tries to keep a low profile when it comes to Presidential politics.

I could get new cars, and have a few times, but i prefer to buy used vehicles.  Some of the vehicles I see being traded on this program are the one I might have been looking at in the next couple of years.

How ever I did consider trying to trade my old truck (an 89 worth maybe 2k) using this program, esp the part where Chrysler was matching.  But resisted the  temptation so far.

I've heard this repeatedly and I am not saying it isn't true.

However, can someone show me the regulation on this? All I've seen so far is that the engines have to be "gunked up" with a solution that destroyed them, which makes sense because the idea is to get gas guzzling vehicles off the road.

What happens to the rest of the car? So far I have seen nothing saying the rest of the car except the engine can't be used for spare parts.

I believe salvage yards have 180 days to sell off parts.  Then, at 180 days, they have to "certify" that the cars have been smashed.

One would think that by the very title, Cash for Clunkers, was something I drove when I was a teenager. At the present time I have a big ole dodge pick-up that is in excellent condition with the exception that it is very fond of gasoline. I like my truck and I enjoy driving it. The last I heard in a free society if I want to pay $5.00 a gallon for gas and get six miles to the gallon that's my business. I don't want the government to tell me what I can and cannot drive, I believe it is called freedom of choice. Besides I want to know my family is a little safer than riding around in a cracker box.
