  • nursejdavis: I am looking for a few Press Releases from Kevin Hillman that have disappeared.... not sure why they would be hidden from the public unless they contain narcs who have gotten their charges dropped for their cooperation. Seems the same Press Releases were also deleted from Facebook. Thanks for any help in locating these

  • Valor7: I could have worded that better, we talked details, options, the pros and cons of each, in  order to arrive at the best ballot language to present to the voters. Hope that makes this clearer.

  • Valor7: Yes and no. We talked details and options until we were blue in the face but I never heardbring it over, it was always the time was not right for the issue to pass. Glad to see the time in now right and I for one shall vote yes on the ballot. I would urge all others to do the sameour county is busting at the seams crimewise and no matter how many bad guys we send off there always seems to someone to replace them. The Sheriff's Office needs the help.

While I probably went overboard on the Hasan thing, I don't think your analogy between a scarf and my wife's blouse coincide.  Rip of her blouse and I would see that as attempted rape and take action as appropriate.  Taking the scarf off the woman to me, does not equate to the same level.  We are talking religious sensitivities versus a real crime.

Thank you for the "overboard" statement. We've all gotten angrier than we should at times, and I'd rather make wrong comments when I get angry for the right reasons than to fail to get angry at all over people like Maj. Hassan. I appreciate your zeal to prosecute traitors like this, and that's why I responded to you when I don't very often respond to comments I dislike from people on the left wing of this board.

But on the scarf issue ... the crime exists precisely **BECAUSE** this woman's religious or moral sensitivities about modesty were violated. If a woman chooses to takes off her blouse to wear a bathing suit at the beach, she has committed no crime. But if someone rips off her blouse without her consent, a crime has been committed.

The Muslim woman may, depending on her personal views and degree of Westernization, regard tugging on her headscarf the same way you would (correctly) regard tugging on your wife's blouse.

Futhermore, a historically knowledgeable Muslim will be able to point out -- correctly -- that it wasn't that long ago in Western history, and even American colonial history, that women who didn't properly cover their heads were considered immodest. We had vestiges of this remaining in Roman Catholic practices of headcoverings at Mass as late as the pre-Vatican II era.

Why is it that in our modern American legal system, we would prosecute someone who pulls off your wife's blouse but don't prosecute someone who wears a bikini to a beach revealing a lot more? Simple -- the bikini-wearing woman's personal views of modesty are not being offended and she's wearing what she chose to wear.

Apply that same principle to someone who believes in long dresses for women or headcoverings for women -- that's why we don't prosecute your wife for wearing a short skirt or showing her hair, but would quite correctly prosecute someone who pulled up a traditional Catholic nun's long habit or pulled off her veil.

An observant Muslim woman wearing hijab, whether I like her beliefs or not, deserves the same level of legal protection we would extend to a traditional Roman Catholic nun or anyone else whose sincerely-held beliefs about modesty were offended by having clothing pulled off or an attempt made to do so.

Darrel, common sense is the quickest way to kill a rant. And you just shot this thread dead. I hope you can live with yourself....LOL
