So its a total of 50 years correct. The last 42 are concurrent with the first 50?

Pennebaker pleads guilty Friday to 2008 close-range gunfight with deputy

Rex A. Pennebaker
Pennebaker pleads guilty Friday to 2008 close-range gunfight with deputy
DIXON, Mo. (Dec. 18, 2009) — The man accused of shooting a Pulaski County deputy during a 2008 trailer court gunfight south of Dixon had been expected to go to trial in January but pleaded guilty instead on Friday. According to Pulaski County Circuit Court records, Rex A. Pennebaker, 33, of Dixon, entered an Alford plea to six criminal charges accusing him of numerous felonies including shooting Deputy Don Hayden and assaulting two other people last year on June 10. An Alford plea is treated by the court as a guilty plea for the purpose of sentencing. Hayden, a retired Army CID agent, had become a full-time sheriff’s deputy just two days before he was shot. Circuit Judge Tracy Storie sentenced Pennebaker to two consecutive terms of 25 years each in state prison for the Class A felony of first degree assault of a law enforcement officer and a related charge of armed criminal action, with additional concurrent time for felony domestic assault of a woman and felony assault of a man that same evening. Sheriff J.B. King said he expected Pennebaker to spend a total of about 46 years in prison, which would make him nearly 80 years old before his release. Agreed, but it is probably better than what he would have got if he went to trial.  I'm sure the trial would have got screwed up and he would have been serving less time.

Their were no winners in this whole ordeal.  Sad for all of the families and the commumity, affected by one mans actions.  Glad to see he has time to sit and think each day, about what he has done and the consequences for his actions.

Agreed.....this was hard for me because one I went to school with him and he was such a nice guy then or so he seemed, two I go to church with his Grandparents and it is hard for me to watch them suffer and finally the third reason is because I was working with Deputy Hayden at the Sheriff's Office at the time of the incident.  I am so happy and relieved that justice was served (this relates to the third part and the way I was raised), however I am so sad and my heart bleeds for his family and what they had to and are having to go through because of this.

You're right.  So many people saddened and surprised by the events that took place.  Im sure this will forever be re-played in the minds of those directly affected.  Officer Hayden, PCSD, the families, the neighbors and the rest of the community.  Such a senseless act of violence that no body deserved to be a part of.

firegirl I understand your post. I met his grandparents at Rolla County jail when they brought my son a bible. They are such nice people. It is so sad to know what the deputy and his family went through, and also sad to know what Rexs family is going through.
