News Release
Burglary Arrests
Pulaski County Sheriff J. B. King
May 7, 2010

On April 27, 2010, the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office received a delayed report of a burglary in the Laquey area of rural Pulaski County. The subsequent investigation by the deputies of this burglary led to three suspects who were arrested after the investigation. The Sheriff’s Office received assistance from the Division of Drug and Crime Control, Missouri State Highway Patrol during this case. A statement of probable cause was sent to the Pulaski County Prosecutor and one count of burglary second degree was filed against all three subjects.

Those charged were; Christopher T. Cristoffer, age 29, of 25185 Sunflower Road, Laquey, Mo. and Angelo J. Hamilton, age 37, of 3319 West Divition Chicago, Il. And Ryan D. Kelley, age 28, of 23386 Sage Road, Waynesville, Mo.

Ryan Kelley posted a $30,000 bond and was released from custody. Cristoffer is being held at the Pulaski County Jail in lieu of a $30,000 bond. Hamilton is being held at the Pulaski County jail in lieu of a $15,000 bond. The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Illinois Division of Probation and Parole and after a review of this case Hamilton’s probation in Illinois has been revoked and a warrant issued for his return to Illinois.

The charges against these subjects are mere accusations and evidence in support of these charges must be presented in a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence

What do you mean by delayed report? Didn’t the homeowner owner call the PCSD as soon as they knew there had been a break in?

Thats probably what he meant by delayed...as in a not in progress call. Delayed as in when the homeowner found out what happened, they called the SD. I dont remember the details in this incident...but had heard.

Your right Rick. In Fact, I'm VERY shocked that Darrell and the other reporter hasn't posted on this yet. We will more than likely be swept under the rug. But I will say this.. It took a lot of guts for Bill Anderson to show up. Knowing he was entering a room full of angry-emotional citizens. He has always had my respect, but even more so now. He took every hit, punch, sarcastic remark we threw at him.
If they ever post on this, my comment will make sense.

Fear Not DTM and the DG have both asked a few or many questions of me about this event. The articles are coming. I want to thank Capt. Anderson for taking the public hits while I hit the bathroom. It is no fun to walk into a room where you expect every voice to be against you 100%.

Guys, I don't post my own personal situations very often, but I have been working while sick most of Thursday, all of Friday, and also this morning. I heavily (and legally) drugged myself on Thursday to be able to attend an interview with the outgoing FLW general, county commission, a Waynesville city committee, and then the Thursday night crime meeting so nobody realized how sick I was, but I collapsed when I got home Thursday night.

By Friday morning I was so sick that I could not attend the change of command ceremony for the new Fort Leonard Wood commanding general. That is a do-not-miss event and I hope it says a bit just how sick I had to be for me to miss it.

I've been functional -- barely -- most of Friday afternoon and am somewhat better today.

When I am writing something important, I am not going to risk screwing it up by writing an article when I am so sick and so heavily medicated that I am dozing off every few hours and reviewing stuff I've written two or three times to make sure what I wrote is actually what I intended to say. That's why most of what I put on the Pulaski County Daily News yesterday was stuff I could do fairly easily without risking a major screwup, and what I responded to on the Pulaski County Web was only items I believed had to be responded to, and which I could re-read and re-write multiple times before hitting "send."

You can't tell when I'm writing how sick I am. And I have no desire to throw a pity party.

But I am not going to have people think I would sweep a story like this under the rug -- period. That's not the way I work, and I'd rather have people blame me for talking about my personal issues than blame me for covering up news.

Point made?

Now I need to get back to work.

Let me guess that you have had lots of  time of late to consider the bathroom wallpaper and decide if there should be changes. If so cheer up I started round two this morning. It could be worse.

Stories should sometimes be taken with a load of salt. For example both times that I ran for the office of sheriff I was told stories about things I had done as a Trooper. Many of those stories were flat wrong, I did not do what was being told. Unfortunately several of the old stories were quite accurate.

I presume you mean inaction by other than the PCSD then.  Yes there are quite a few waiting to see what will be done, if anything.

Great job to you and your Deputies, Sheriff King!
I have a sneaking suspicion that one of these guys is missing a hand held scanner. Several weeks ago, I found a really nice scanner in my yard. I have been listening to it ever since. I am glad they were caught without anyone getting hurt.

Yes indeed there is, he's the Grandfather of the subject arrested! And it isn't his first run in either!!!

So everybody is on the same page here, the person arrested is the grandson of the chief deputy of the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department, son of the chief dispatcher of the St. Robert Police Department, grandson of the former head dispatcher for the Waynesville Police Department from years ago, and is also related to the vice-president of the Laquey R-V School Board.

I've been aware of the situation for nearly six years and have been watching as the criminal activities went from minor to progressively more serious. Everybody in all the agencies has assured me that the relatives of this person who are in law enforcement and other community leadership positions are totally opposed to his behavior and are not supportive of it in any way whatsoever.

To go beyond that gets into personnel issues that would not be appropriate for public discussion and are not legally public under the Missouri Sunshine Law. All I'm going to say is that I have no evidence of official wrongdoing by anyone.

DTM,

Yes. As we speak I am reviewing my tape to make sure there are not errors; I've been doing this for a number of hours already, and if I am lucky, I will be able to post my article before I leave for a 2 p.m. meeting. Generally it takes about three to four times longer to review a tape than it took to make the tape, and that was a very long meeting.

Those who were at the meeting will understand why I want no errors.

I will say from my years working at the Sheriff's Dept. that we chased him as hard as any other criminal.  There was no special treatment and he was arrested several times on warrants etc. while I was there.

I for one hope your article is detailed and balanced. Lots of misinformation out there so far.

Balance will be based on what happened at the meeting. Balance in covering a one-sided meeting means reporting mostly what one side said. As for detail... detail is what I do. My goal is to write an article that paints the good, the bad and the ugly for everybody to see, including taking microscopes to examine little warts if I think they may actually be cancerous tumors.

I think this was basically a 2010 equivalent of the "Roby Riot" a few years ago outside the South Gate when Fort Leonard Wood wanted to close the gate late at night and in the early morning, which would have caused massive problems for the servicemembers living outside the post down there and would have pretty much wrecked the civilian community down there. One side got presented -- and presented **VERY** loudly -- and a fair reporter could only report what got yelled at the garrison commander and how he responded.

A lot of things got said. Capt. Anderson responded to some but not all of them. The commissioners responded to other things on Monday. But the meeting was overwhelmingly negative toward the sheriff's department, the prosecutor, the probation and parole office, and the elected officials in the courthouse.

Sheriff, you know I support law enforcement. But I'm going to say this clearly and publicly -- you have a major, major problem down in the Laquey area. I've been hearing about it for months but I had no idea until last week how bad it was. What you do about the problem is between you and the Laquey people and I will be happy to report your side, but I am not being responsible if I do not report on some really, really angry people's side of the issue as well.

Maybe the Sheriff could "saturate" Laquey with one deputy and the rest of the county with the other.

At some point, people have to take responsibility for themselves.  While I certainly don't advocate taking the law into your own hands, there are things that could be done.  People should be watching out for their neighbors and report anything suspicious.

The problem there is the court and the PA.  The Sheriff arrests them and the courts release them.  Catch and release, due to the courts.
