For those who are wondering what our former Prosecuting Attorney is doing, here is her website:

http://dhooperattorneyatlaw.com/index.htm

She says she plans to practice in these areas:
   http://lawyers.justia.com/lawyer/deborah-ann-hooper-1338457

Courts-martial and, nonjudicial punishment , adverse administrative actions  Criminal Law  DUI / DWI  Divorce  Domestic Violence  Elder Law  Family Law  Juvenile Law  Military Law  Social Security Disability

Here's an additional website listing her: http://lawyers.law.cornell.edu/lawyer/deborah-ann-hooper-1338457

Considering that four of the top ten Google results for "Deborah Hooper"+attorney generate various news articles and web forum articles commenting on her, it should be interesting to see how things go for her.

As I've said before, I think she'll do a fairly good job in private practice once she gets established and can focus on only a few cases rather than hundreds. I'm looking forward to covering her first trial against Kevin Hillman and seeing how they do in court head-to-head.

Here's some more information on Hooper's law practice, and a site for former clients and legal colleagues to rate her performance :

http://www.avvo.com/attorneys/65583-mo-deborah-hooper-1865102.html

Here's her campaign website, which has not been taken offline:

http://hooperforprosecutor.com/About_Deborah.html

It's interesting that the section entitled "Deborah's Record" comes up with a page saying "under construction." I wonder if she intends to run again?

You stole what I was going to say, just before she got paid for not doing a whole lot.    She really was one of the best defense lawyers in Pulaski for around 4 years.
If anybody knows MAYNARDS given name please PM me with it.  I will not tell who tells me!

Bob, I do believe your a little slow.  If you look, a person said that, another person told the first person that they stole his idea and that she has been for four years (her elected term), and then you come up with that.  Wow

DUH! Wheres the EXIT sign. Im a lil slow ya know.
You think for a minute the SAME people she attempted to put in jail wants to hire her to defend them? LOL Im not that slow. Oh wait! While she was PA she helped them WALK away with no charges. Maybe she will make it in Pulaski County. I KNOW many cases that SHOULD have been tried BUT 24 hour hold and they  WALKED. I wonder if she knew what happened AFTER they got out again. Id lean more towards her thinking who gives a &^*&^ Im on my way out and wheres all my money. hope she can sleep at night

Sorry for the delayed response.

Deborah Hooper is no longer an elected official. She's now in the category of a restaurant owner, a car repair shop owner, or some other business that seeks customers. That's why I posted this in the category of "business opinion."

My personal opinion is that once Hooper gets her lawsuit against the county settled and moves beyond it, she will surprise some of her critics by doing a decent job as a defense attorney. She's not stupid, she went to a very good law school, she's got decades of experience, and once she can pick and choose her cases and not have to deal with the hundreds of cases all at once that unavoidably deluge the prosecutor with work, I believe she'll be able to focus on her clients and defend them effectively.

Then why was it she could not make it as a defense attorney before she became PA?

Deborah Hooper now runs a business which is seeking clients. I think she will get some, and I think she will work as hard as she can on behalf of her clients. When she can spend her full time defending a relatively small number of clients and the prosecutor has to divide his time between hundreds of cases, I think she has a good chance of winning a decent deal for her clients and may even have a very public victory over Kevin Hillman in a jury trial.

That's the nature of being a prosecutor who has a huge list of cases while the defense has only a few to handle.

My information is that she was doing okay -- not great but okay -- as a defense attorney. I know some of her former clients who were generally happy with her work. I'm sure there are others who were very unhappy, but that's the case with any lawyer. You win some and you lose some.

Part of the issue is that as a defense attorney, she avoided taking cases that would be highly likely to create conflicts of interest if she were elected prosecutor. That limited what cases she could take. That's why I cited the list of types of clients she's taking now -- including many which in the past she might not have taken.

Unless you were her accountant, or a member of the Bar complaint board. how would you know the succeses or failures of her firm?

She may not be an elected official, but apparently she is going into business.

I have seen businesses ripped a new one in the "Business Opinion" section.

If you are serving the public and plan to make your living serving the public, then the public has the right to tell other people if you are not doing a good job.

You better watch what you are saying. I know folks that are all to familiar with that 24 hour hold. Kevin might just put charges on them and it will be the end of PCSD referring bullshit fights. Lets sit back and see if drugs, checks, steeling and domestic violence get tollorated now.

I used Deborah back in 05 for my divorce and I have nothing but good to say about her private practice.  She may not be what most people are used to when they are looking for an attorney, but she was kind, considerate, fair, extremely knowledgeable and gave me many options.  I believe she will rebuild her private practice and do very well.

This is an old post but i have a question.... Can anyon explain the 113 cases dismissed in chambers in january after hopper was voted out? Cases that were 3 and 4 years old that she did nothing with, were those poorly prosecuted or poorly or unjustly filed charges against innocent people? Seems odd to dismiss so many cases in chambers not even in the courtroom any thoughts?

I think I trust Kevin Hillman's judgment and if he thought they should be dismissed it's OK with me.

I am not aware of any mass dismissal of cases in January 2011 or 2012.  There was a dismissal docket of old cases in December 2010 I believe before I took office.  Can you let me know where you got the statistics and I can tell you what they were. However, I did not do a mass dismissal.
