  • Valor7: I could have worded that better, we talked details, options, the pros and cons of each, in  order to arrive at the best ballot language to present to the voters. Hope that makes this clearer.

  • Valor7: Yes and no. We talked details and options until we were blue in the face but I never heardbring it over, it was always the time was not right for the issue to pass. Glad to see the time in now right and I for one shall vote yes on the ballot. I would urge all others to do the sameour county is busting at the seams crimewise and no matter how many bad guys we send off there always seems to someone to replace them. The Sheriff's Office needs the help.

Unintended Consequences of HB294
For any who are not aware that if HB294 goes into law, the training requirements for a Missouri CCW will change. New rules will be 50 rounds practice each with a revolver and semi-auto and testing of 30 rounds with both guns. So, essentially a doubling of ammunition needed to pass the course.

The unintended consequence that I have thought of is those who have passed their training prior to 8/28/2011 will not technically be eligible to visit their local sheriff after that date and apply for a CCW permit as they will not have met the new requirements. I have read the new law and there is no grandfather clause for those who's training took place prior to 8/28/2011. A sheriff may or may not accept their training certificate based upon this change.

We have seen how Green County is still using the 6 month residency clause because it was not changed in one section of the law.

Those are the new requirements for a new CCW, not a renewal.  The requirements do not pertain to a renewal, however if you let your CCW expire without doing a renewal you will have to meet the new requirements.

If whoever posted that is talking about someone that has done the training, passed the course, but not yet applied for the CCW...my simple suggestion would be, do it before Aug. 28th.  There is plenty of time and shouldn't be a problem.

We shot well over both of those amounts in our CCW class... not that big of a deal. :-)

I fire more than that on any given week when practicing.  I knew of the rule change and it should not bother anyone over the long term.  Those of us having had out CCW over a period of years are not affected as long as we renew on time.
