Wish I could make it but no luck.  Didn't know if you heard or not but Big Smith's bass player had a stroke, not sure if he is in the hospital still or not, but I will be surprised if he is back with them very soon, if at all before they call it quits in May.

If you go, have fun!

Pictures on there facebook site show him trying to play guitar in his hospital bed.   The band has a replacement already in place.  I also got Tickets to the final springfield show in may and am using the West plains show ( a couple weeks earlier ) as a warm up :D .    They also have a show after may 6 in st louis

Yea, I saw the pic on facebook.  Have not talked to Jody in a few days so not sure what is up now but knew they were looking for a replacement, didn't realize they had one.  I have tickets for the last show in Springfield also, looking forward to it but hate to see them call it quits.  Tons of talent on that stage.

From their site....not sure if he will do all gigs or just this one Big Smith This Saturday night, just a wee bit north of Springfield. Mr. Reed Herron of Speakeasy will bravely step in to substitute for Bill Thomas. We'll be collecting donations for Bill and his family. Come see us!

I can't think of his name but I am 99% sure that he is another cousin who played with them several years ago, I believe he now lives in CA.  He helped write several of the songs they do now....they were explaining all of it during a show a few years ago at SDC.  That is my best guess.

Just so everyone knows, Just A Biker is the band coordinator for the Freedom Rally. We have talked with the OMD before, but their price is just too high. At $22,000, we would have to raise the cost at the gate, or pray we get 8000 people to pay for them, the 5 other bands we need for the whole weekend, plus the sound company, property rental, portajohn costs and so on.
We have had Jim Dandy, Jimmy Van Zant, and Head East, all of which never increased our gate numbers.

We had Powder Mill at the Freedom Rally last year.  They were a great bunch of guys to work with and did a great show, but weren't all that popular with the crowd.

Then what about a F.O.R.R. sponsored concert at the club.  Moneys earned via the concert could be used to help fund bigger named bands during the rally.    yes?

It's possible, it's been done in the past for benefits & special occasions.  BUT, it takes an unbelievable amount of planning & work before hand, and then you have all of the work that needs to be done during the show, and clean-up after.  IF the weather is good there is some money to be made (not as much as you would think though), but if the weather is bad, it's a tremendous loss.  The gamble may be worth it, but finding volunteers to work is another issue.

OBTW, I contacted OMD yesterday, and there is no way we can afford them.  Their base cost is more than our total budget for entertainment at the Rally.
