Has anyone else had the roofing guy from some "Property Repair" or "Storm Damage" company from Jefferson City area stop by their house and offer to inspect your roof for hail damage? Then they will contact your insurance company and "be your advocate" with the insurance adjuster. You can get a new roof & maybe even gutters with your insurance company paying for it.

Ed,
This is the "new thing" in business.  My nephew co-owns a company in Charlotte that does the exact same thing.  They make their money from the insurance company, provide a needed service to the consumer, and hopefully at little or no cost.  His company is completely legit and extremely successful.  As with any unknown company such as this one from Jeff City, I would recommend investigating them before hiring them but I bet they come back clean.  It seems to be a good idea if you have a good insurance policy.

They came back tonight to measure the house for their estimate. The must be legit' They are doing the roof on Waynesville City Hall, the Mayor's house and the Sheriff's house. Their bid works out to be $224 a square for tear off, remove & replace. Do not sign the estimate unless you are ready to have these folks do the work. Their estimate sheet is an "agreement" if they agree to a fee from your insurance adjuster, you have contracted with them to do the work. No second bid for someone local.

I would be interested in what the insurance company says..if I want to make a claim they will send an adjuster to my house before a contractor comes out...they won't just take the contractors word to make sure you aren't just trying to get a new roof out of it.   I would think if this is the case and you sign, you might get stuck  with a bill that the insurance company won't pay for

I started this thread to alert homeowners that this fly-by-night outfit is in the area. I've done BBB and other internet searchs, to include Missouri "casenet". It appears these folks come into an area after a storm, give property owners an estimate (usually high). The property owner signs that they have received the estimate which is also contract if the contractor agrees to do the job for the amount of the insurance adjuster's settlement. As far as I can determine they are not doing anything "illegal" but they are shady in that they badmouth all the local contractors, allege they are in the area because insurance companies have ask them here, and obviously try to gain credibility by using public official's titles that they have done or are going to do work for. They may well have roofed a Sheriff's, Mayor's, etc house but who knows where. they lead you to believe it was local, but didn't outright say that. My advice is to BE AWARE and be careful. I have heard from the Sheriff of Pulaski County, and they did not/are not doing any work for him!

... allege they are in the area because insurance companies have ask them here, ...

I can't say anything about the company you are referring to, but I know that this does happen.  My friend owns Enrich Construction in Columbia and did some insurance work on my house a couple of years ago.  The insurance company DID contact him a while back asking him to bid a project down here because they didn't feel the "local guys" were bidding accurately.

The SHERIFF had a metal roof put on by a LOCAL company some years ago and the SHERIFF is NOT having ANY roof work done. Just FYI.

After the last big hail storm in 2006, which demolished my roof, I came home from work and found these two guys walking around on my roof with a clip board and a tape measure.  I asked them what they wanted and to come down off my roof.  One guy starts pushing the clipboard at me to sign.  He said he was doing estimates for my insurance company.  I told him I already made arrangements with a local roofer and my insurance agent was aware of that.  They continued to hang around my yard and telling me the price I would have to pay until I told them they needed to go and their services were not needed.  When I told them I was going inside to call my insurance agent, they got in their truck and left.  Also had a similar experience with a siding company several years back.  They wouldn't leave until I went inside to get some paper and wrote down their license plate number and told them I was calling the police.  Beware.
....and that night as the moon crossed the mountain, one more Coyote was heard...
