Can any of the candidates assure us that they will be in for the long haul? And not jump and run when the heat comes there way?

Best question yet. Will they be in for the long haul? Its not a glorified position to be in in this county

Well the two dems certainly are not worth having either.  I will be voting republican for my choice of Sheriff.  Other positions will vary.

Edward, I recognize that you are just on here to stir things up, but would you please tell me why Roberts or Anderson are better than the republicans?  All I have read is JT JT JT.  But you will not tell me why.  Please tell me, I have not yet made up my mind.

I have been in the "HEAT" in two departments in this county for the past two decades. I don't plan on leaving for the next two. I turn 50 this year and feel that I still have many good years to serve this community and I have never been afraid of holding my ground in a good contest (more PC than fight).

As the sheriff JB can tell you that on a good day only 50% of the people you are dealing with are mad at you.

Why? enlighten me. Id like to talk to him personally All I have gotten is hearsay.

I'm not a large Anderson Fan, I think he has the experience, but i also think he treats everyone like we are his privates... I am not military nor do i like being treated like a private.. of the two democrats I would have to vote for Bill. As for J.T I can't imagine what kind of hole our county would be in if we had to face his wrath again! I do not know Nick pappas nor have i spoke to him, so i can't elaborate on my thoughts for him. My toss up is between Johnny and Ron, Which my wife and I support both candidates, My vote is very strongly for Ron, my wife doesn't have to agree, which is why we have each of their signs. Based on what i know Ron has been in the leadership "law" enforcement role for many years, He has been through the ranks of a Large department, I think we need that kind of CHANGE. He is very intelligent, he has a lot of great ideas for this county, and is fresh blood. I feel out of all the candidates, Ron and Nick will be the ones that won't be biased for the select "A" crowd so to speak.   In the end, I hope whichever candidate is elected they do whats ultimately right for the residents of Pulaski county...

This question is for the Sheriff candidates. (edited post to be clearer)

My question is:

In your official capacity as sheriff, would you spend county money with an out-of-county business over a locally owned businesses just to save a (very) few bucks?

I think this a valid support question, to see if the canditates supports local businesses that pay taxes here in Pulaski County vs non-county businesses that do not pay taxes here even if it cost a few dollars more.

Yes, this is directly tied to my comments here: http://pulaskicountyweb.com/smf/index.php?topic=69.1350 but is a (and should be) valid issue for all Pulaski County business owners.

Personally I know Ron Long the best because I graduated high school with him. That makes it easier for me, but, because of knowing him so well it makes it easy for me to put my full support behind him. I can assure you Ron will do the best he can, he is a no bullshit guy, and he won't embarrass the county like a JT would.. I don't live there anymore nor can vote there, but sure do have some friends I can sway there..

Ron I will say I am a bit dissapointed you'd be worried that you could come under fire on here. JB has taken all the heat and came out smelling just fine so to speak (OK I never stood that close to him.).. That is the kinda guy we need, not afraid to take the heat, after all they do work for us, and your employers want answers..

This format here has worked good for David Day also.. Your new representative candidates are above talking to us so far.. That's bad in my eyes.. Just makes me think if they won't come here they must have something to hide.. Right now my votes for Twila Cordry, although I think because of the heavy rotation of Lynchs Furniture ads on thee radio his name recognitions pretty darn high.

No, its not entended to be. Nor I do not know if other candidates have used non-county businesses. I don't think i've meet any of the candidates.

If they shop or use a non-county business for personal use, thats not really the question. The question is if in their offical position, they would use a local business even if it cost a couple bucks more...

I will edit my question to make it clearer.

I havea question for all the candidates that are on here, I want to know how you will handle your office as far as your deputies getting into trouble.  Lets say one of your deputies gets a DWI or pulled over for suspected DWI and refuses to a chemical test, How do you handle that?  Do you let them go or suspend them, what do you do?

Why is Ron not answering questions on here?  He got on and said ask away basically and I was even nice and asked in private.  He has refused to answer me for over a week.  I didn't even ask hard questions yet, I just asked how he planned on doing the things that he is proposing or promising to do.  I just want to know how he is going to do what he says he is going to do.

Isn't it an automatic loss of drivers licence for refusing to be tested?  You can't drive a police car without a licence.

One easy answer is that his mom had major surgery last Thursday. I suspect he has not been busy chasing votes but has been at a hospital.

I have now finished reading this thread. Wow, EDWARD, do you even live in this county. JT almost finacially destroyed this county with his own self pity party POOR JT. I woild vote for a big pile of doo-doo before him. I was hoping this thread would help me decide and job well done. People in this town who have brains knows exactly what JT will do if he is in office again, Pretty well nothing. If you have been listening to the news the past 2 weeks we need someone that truely believes their is a problem with drugs and step up and not be scared of the people selling them. I do not believe JT is that person. If he cries when he doesn't get his way and uses the system to try and bankrupt the county he lives surely can't meet face to face with a druggie. He shouldn't be allowed to live in the county he tried to sue. JMO

I am interested in what policy the new sheriff will put in place to insure his deputy's will complete and properly file paper work. Case in hand, a person with many domestic problems that they had to go on, was jailed for drunk with a loaded weapon in the house(bad call but it happend) and filed for a ccw and got it. The PA could not even believe the permit was issued.
If your going to be dumb, you better be tough!

two things first JB the answer to your question is yes and we gathered some good evidence.

second if any of my officers is pulled over for possible DUI or DWI that officer will be placed on administrative leave initially. If they refuse to take the test then they cannot drive after DOR revokes them. No Drive No Patrol, NO JOB.

After reading more information on Nick Pappas via his Facebook link he left in his first post - I learned a lot....including my assumption that he was a military "implant" to our State/Community was wrong....but, that is what I get for assuming.

Since we all know the budget is not going to increase for the PCSD any time soon, which definitely does not allow for more manpower , the mention of "community law enforcement programs, awareness & Community Policing techniques" under Nick's focus areas REALLY caught my eye.

"
Institute community law enforcement programs and activities to increase awareness and safety through the use of Community Policing techniques"

Mr Pappas, could you elaborate on this subject? I'm thinking "updated" old school "neighborhood watch" .....How would this be funded? Organized (by locality/population)?

Thank You

I think the Trayvon Martin case ruined neighborhood watch for me.  I would hate for someone to get in trouble to protecting their neighborhood and I would hate for a young man to be shot by an over aggressive neighborhood watch person.
When I was young, I wanted to be older.  This is not what I expected!

I think the Trayvon Martin case ruined neighborhood watch for me.  I would hate for someone to get in trouble to protecting their neighborhood and I would hate for a young man to be shot by an over aggressive neighborhood watch person.
Id hate for a neighborhood watch guy get convicted for doing so. Not saying your wrong.......but this case will prevent some folks from doin the job they were supposed to. though a guy does need to have a ccw to carry on a patrol........I see no problem with citizens taking care of their neighborhood. I look out for mine nightly.
