I have the deepest respect for any person running for that office as I see how it works now everyday. Quite honestly I am not sure how but it's working....

My questions are about structure, report reviewing and too many chiefs and not enough Indians... :-) y'all know where to find me to answer those questions :-)

We have some really awesome dedicated deputies that I am so gateful for. Far too often they are belittled and under appreciated but I know how hard they work and how big their hearts are. I see their faces when bad things happen to good people. I see their tired eyes when they've been up for 30 hours because they are too dedicated and passionate about their duty to serve and protect than to say I am tired. I can say I love each and every one of them like they are my family.

The candidate that I will vote for must be compassionate enough to understand the drive of his officer while still being leader enough to correct them in an appropriate way without making them feel stupid or worthless. Obviously, there are other things I will be looking for as well, but the last thing I want is to see someone in their who will tear the officers down while they sacrifice their time (and many times their marriages, families) for the good of others for very very little pay....

Let's see, took me 10 minutes to clean up this thread. That will be 100 dollars bob and mark each if you want back on here.. You can take it and deposit it directly into my bank account at Security Bank..
If one of them comes up with a $100 please lets us know before you let them back on...I bet there is enough people on this site who would donate 2 or 3 bucks each and come up with $110 just so you  WONT  let them back on

I had a chance to speak with Bill Anderson the other day.  He was easy to speak to and answered my questions directly without any "um"s.  It is no secret, to those that are my facebook friends, that I already supported Bill before this conversation.  But, I am even more convinced that he is the right man, at the right time for this job.  In my opinion, if our current sheriff thought enough of his qualifications and skill to have him hold the position that he held with the SD that he will be a great choice to fill the upcoming vacancy.  I also personally know Nick Pappas and Johnny Burgess, and they are both great men, but I think that at this time the department needs Bill.  As far as the "power trip" that has been suggested, I chalk that up to a man who is passionate about keeping the citizens of Pulaski County safe and sound.  If you haven't had a chance to have a "sit down" with Bill, and you bump into him while you are out and about, you should take a little bit of your time and visit with him.
I happen to feel that the degree of a person's intelligence is directly reflected by the number of conflicting attitudes she can bring to bear on the same topic.

I agree my friend. I hear all the people working hate Bill, but he is efficiant, smart and can hold his own. my vote is with bill.. I want a sheriff who chews nails drinks gas and pisses napalm. Bills the guy, he will provide the best coverage in the county and carry on a law enforcement stance that even though his troops might not like......he will uphold the law. I do not think any candidate will do the same.

I've not spoken to the candidates only what I hear on here.  Topgunbiz it seems you know Mr. Anderson, what I have heard was that his people did not like working for him and that is not a good thing. I agree that you don't need to be employees friends, but I have to wonder, if almost all signed a letter, then something must be going on.  I read the article written int he Pulaski County Daily.  Now I don't know the result of all that but it makes me wonder.  The problem I am having right now is there are 5 people in the race all saying that they will do the right thing. I need some specifics as to how they want to do the right thing and none of them will say that so far.  For example, who will be the number 2 for them.  We all know that the second in command is very important and when it comes to president, that person is important for the election.  I think it is here as well.

I guess I just don't know, I have heard bad things about Anderson and Roberts, some I can find information on and some I cannot.  I have not heard anything bad about the three republicans.

I would like to read some specific past actions that make me think they would do well for us.  An example,  Mr. Burgess got the county grants (good), Mr. Roberts sued the county (bad).  So are there specifics out there about the others,  personally tough as nails etc, as you said, I don't care about, I want someone int here who has the ability to operate the department on a budget designed for a lemonade stand.  I want to know what they did in the past.  Specifics please, not campaign promises.

The above line from your last post shows a clear understanding of the major $$$$$$$ problem the department has and your wording gave me the best laugh I have had in a long time. Thank You for that laugh.

I have asked Ron Long how he plans on having all the cool "task forces" that he's familiar with on such a low budget and he didn't quite have a clear answer for me. But he's got great leadership and different experiences and he's fresh blood... Sometimes coming in from the outside let's you view things from a different angle. Ron Long certainly appears to be a great cop, but the job of sheriff is more of a CEO of a company rather than a cop. He hasnt shared who's he's taking as his number 2, I'd like to know that.

Johnny Burgess is quite capable of running a facility as he's run the ambulance district successfully and his people are loyal to him and they speak very highly of him.  My concern us that he has such a huge budget over in the ambulance district that he may have a struggle with the sheriffs dept low budget. However, he has a very good business skills and the sheriff needs that. I have heard a few names as who he'd take as his number 2 and I'm a little concerned in this area.

Bill Anderson is incredibly intelligent and knowledgeable in law enforcement and running a budget and I believe his heart is in it, however I have heard more than half of the deputies say they would quit if he won :-/  that's not really a good thing you want a sheriff who can lead his people.

Pappas has experience in policing and I really like him. Not sure what experience he has running a department though. He's done well with the investigations he's done.

Jt isn't even worth discussing, if the people of this county think he should be the next sheriff I am moving... Lol

First I never have been the senior officer at the ambulance district, Gary Carmack has been the Chief since the district was founded after the hospital closed. I have been as high as assistant Chief but never the chief. When I started there in 1990 we did not have anywhere near the operating budget that is there today. The first decade or more that I was there the district had to get tax anticipation loans to meet payroll for the last part of every year. So I do understand JB’s comment on a “lemon aide stand budget”. I have worked under that before. Grants can help if they are in an area that is needed and if you can get them. They are competitive and everyone is trying to get them.
The department has grown since I joined in 1993. There are more officers and more administrative personnel than there was back then. There is also a separate 911 center that is modern and up to date. Then 911 was run in the same office that the sheriff’s dispatch is in now. The jail is the same size then as it is now. The space for operations of the department is the same as it was then and the number of road officers now is not much larger than it was then. Things that have changed are the number of people in the community, the number of roads and houses, the number of businesses, and along with the growth of the community comes the amount of crime that has grown as well.
When I joined the department we had reserve officers that came in all the time and augmented the full time officers with either additional cars or got in the car with the full time officers and ran two man cars. Today there are not as many reserves available as there was then. Part of that is the certification requirements to become an officer have more than tripled and the cost is in the thousands to take the training. There are not as many reserves out there who can volunteer their time to come in. they all have full time jobs as well.

If elected 50% 0f the people seem to be against anything a sheriff does so he might as well get used to the heat. But that would also mean he would have to care about what people thought.
