  • Valor7: I could have worded that better, we talked details, options, the pros and cons of each, in  order to arrive at the best ballot language to present to the voters. Hope that makes this clearer.

  • Valor7: Yes and no. We talked details and options until we were blue in the face but I never heardbring it over, it was always the time was not right for the issue to pass. Glad to see the time in now right and I for one shall vote yes on the ballot. I would urge all others to do the sameour county is busting at the seams crimewise and no matter how many bad guys we send off there always seems to someone to replace them. The Sheriff's Office needs the help.

Not sure if this is the right section to post in or if this has been discussed previously.
Recently there was a new "firehouse" built down T Hwy, across from Raleigh road. When the project first started, some time ago, I was excited to see that there was funds available to assist the local firestation with serving the community. However, at this point my opinion has changed as there are questions that are unanswered. First off, is it done? This project that consist of no more than a metal building shell and concrete has gone on forever, and now I have seen no staff or contractor in ages. There is no building sign, nothing signalling what this metal building is. It's commercial look has surely brought down the homes nearby values. With that said it brings me to the next topic, "Firehouse". This is in quotations because after discussion with several local insurance agencies they do not recognize it as such. It is a class C unmanned fire station storage unit. I am sure that the people passed this with the intention of money going towards assisting the community in fire and rescue. However, if the insurance companies don't recognize it as protection of your property why should the people? Also, when was this passed? Who passed it? Was this building constructed out of some fiat budget funds or did funding come from higher up? If it came from state or etc. was it put out for public bid? I know the contractor that worked on the project and have no hard feeling toward 'em however we are in a competitive market and the people in this community deserve that.

Yes it is an unmanned fire station, they have 3 trucks in there. Waynesville Rural Fire Protection District is a combination department meaning they have full time staff (which they are at the station by East Elementary) and volunteers who respond to the station they live closest to. They are always looking for more volunteers also.  If you have questions you can always go by the manned station and ask them so you find the correct information and not just hearsay.

Don't take this the wrong way but ... I am familiar with our local district and how it is setup, where it is at, and have actively supported such. With such said, what questions am I suppose to ask the fire chief that he can answer intelligently?

Why dont you take the time to stop and ask the chief in person.  He is always happy to answer anybodys questions that live in his district, seems to make more sense for a legitimate concern than poking around and getting opinions from people who have "good ideas".

They are a rapidly growing district, I feel the need for expansion will provide to be extremely beneficial in the future! Ask you insurance agent, what you current ISO is?
