Glad to see the time in now right and I for one shall vote yes on the ballot. I would urge all others to do the sameour county is busting at the seams crimewise and no matter how many bad guys we send off there always seems to someone to replace them. The Sheriff's Office needs the help.

Gabrielle Giffords launches group to take on gun lobbyBy Melanie MasonLos Angeles Times5:30 a.m. CST, January 8, 2013Seeking to counter the influence of the pro-gun lobby, former U.S.  Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, former astronaut Mark Kelly, are launching a campaign to change the nation's gun policies.
The initiative, called Americans for Responsible Solutions, was announced Tuesday on the two-year anniversary of the Tucson mass shooting that killed six people and severely wounded Giffords.
“Forget the boogeyman of big, bad government coming to dispossess you of your firearms. As a Western woman and a Persian Gulf War combat veteran who have exercised our 2nd Amendment rights, we don’t want to take away your guns any more than we want to give up the two guns we have locked in a safe at home,” Giffords and Kelly wrote in an op-ed in USA Today. “What we do want is what the majority of NRA members and other Americans want: responsible changes in our laws to require responsible gun ownership and reduce gun violence,” they explained.
The campaign will aim to neutralize the National Rifle Assn.'s cash advantage in promoting gun rights. The NRA, with more than 4 million members and an annual budget of more than $200 million, spent more than $2.2 million on federal lobbying and another $1 million in contributions to candidates in 2012. It also poured in nearly $19 million in outside spending, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

“Until now, the gun lobby’s political contributions, advertising and lobbying have dwarfed spending from anti-gun violence groups,” the pair wrote in USA Today. “No longer. With Americans for Responsible Solutions engaging millions of people about ways to reduce gun violence and funding political activity nationwide, legislators will no longer have reason to fear the gun lobby.”
On the group's website, Giffords and Kelly lament that Congress made no significant changes to federal gun policy in the two years since the Tucson shooting. They urge Congress to take a more vigorous response to the latest mass shooting in Newtown, Conn., where 26 were killed at an elementary school last month.
Giffords visited Newtown last week to meet with families of the victims,0,4650858.story

A woman that was shot in the head is asking for responsible solutions. What is wrong with that? The second amendment is not as cut and dry as you think it is. This cannot be an all or nothing or nothing deal. Change is coming whether you or I or anyone else likes it.    I would bet that if you had been shot by a nut job you might feel different as well.

she is a crime victim. laws mean nothing to the criminals. didn't the person get arrested?

shit happens, you cannot prevent evil people from doing evil. this is reality.

gun control will not prevent crime. gun laws already on the books do not prevent criminals from getting guns.

the guilty person has been tried convicted and sentenced. but the law abiding are to be punished also?

So your saying we should do away with all laws since they don't work. People are going to drink and drive but by your logic we should not have DWI laws because they don't get everyone that does it. I agree that a ban wont stop everyone evil person out there but if using the same logic that applies to the DWI laws if it saves one person life doesn't it make it worth it. People on both sides of the issue are going to have work together and realize that they wont both get everything they want.

we have plenty of gun laws. let's get the enforcement. We don't need new laws.

pretty simple. but the dems don't want to hold the criminals accountable, they want to control the law abiding.

work together my ass! the dems idea of compromise is we give in to them. there are laws, enforce them. the logic of " if it saves just 1 life it is worth it" is bs.
