We have enough immigration laws that are not enforced already.

Thanks!

What do you guys say to a twenty year moratorium.  Would you be for or against?  Is twenty years long enough to assimilate these people into American society.

Well, it is a moot point as the Senate put a stop to the reform bill.  I would not be for a moratorium.  What good would it do?  Millions more coming across the border and we the taxpayers support them with our hard earned money.  No Thanks..  Repatriate those here illegally, then close the border and ENFORCE the border closure.

I've been reading a bit more about NAFTA recently, and it appears there were checks and balances built in that aren't being payed much attention to.  Wonder why that is, and I wonder why the President is pushing so hard on an issue that he knows is unpopular and detrimental to the survival of the nation as we know it?

It just doesn't fit the character of a grass roots cowboy type.

Which brings me to a suspicion that has lingered for a long time.....just who really IS in charge.  There is no doubt in my mind the president is a spokesperson - figurehead....and not much more.

Anyway, off track - I am glad it failed also and agree wholeheartedly - It's time to clean house and lock the doors.  NAFTA should be re-evaluated and officially scrapped if necessary.  It's a recipe for disaster - obviously.

Perhaps the real power is with the Council for Foreign Relations.  Movement to One World Order with UN oversight?

Yeah, perhaps you are correct.  There is another very powerful group of folks that help shape and determine our course as well:

www.europarl.europa.eu/

More influence than they should have by a long shot.  The Federalist Papers should be mandatory curriculum from the 9th grade on.  By the time a student graduated, they would be able to make a vote that really counts.  I wonder how many people in this country really know what they are and why they were written?  Especially the elected officials.

Nope, but I try to keep aware of those things that are a detriment to this country.  This country was sold out to the World Bank by FDR.  So they are also involved in the current desecration of this country too.

President Bush and Kennedy got their nose rubbed in their mess called immigration. They kept making this an issue of Juan and Maria are only here taking jobs Americans would not do. Bull. Why are 75% of the farm workers Americans or those with legal status?
This is about terrorism or the prevention of it. Why didn’t Bush secure the border after 9/11?
For those of you who would like to use the following information when discussing illegal immigration and to show just how hard our Bush administration is working to stop it, here are some facts. President Clinton’s administration was not great but it sure beats what this administration is doing, so why do you think they will do better with the current illegal alien giveaway program? They will not.

We already have laws on the books that will stop illegal immigration but they are being ignored. For example, in 1997, during President Clinton’s administration, INS conducted 17,554 worksite arrests and issued only 865 notice of intent file. In 2004, under President Bush, worksite arrests dropped drastically to only 159 arrests, with just three (3) notice of intent to file. How is this enforcing our laws? It is not. When the magnet is shut down, JOBS, illegal aliens will go home. Right now illegal aliens are flooding our country and all Congress and our president want to do is to try to pass more useless laws. First, they need to try and enforce existing laws. It is obvious nobody is interested in doing their jobs by protecting America. When I hear someone in our administration say, “our borders are broken, all I am hearing is another elected or appointed official failing to do their jobs.

there have been a lot more arrests this year. This problem has been around for a long time. those 10-12 million illegals didn't get here only during W's term. it has been a long standing problem. the dems have a new group of constituents. that is why they are for amnesty. the gop has lost it's way and too many republicans are caving. The voters remember. It will have to be up to the voters to keep the pressure on congress to straighten the mess out

I think the Monroe doctrine has been realized and that immigration should be suspended.  Can anyone give a good reason why it should not be suspended?

I know some people would say that it is a Right and that anyone seeking a better life should be allowed in.  I say wrong, it is a privilege.

I know some people would say "Who is going to pick our veggies?".  And I would say that that is a lame assertion.  I picked beans when I was a teenager and bucked bales for $0.03 a bale.  You cannot tell me that Americans will not do these types of jobs.  You can see them working for next to nothing every time hay is cut right here in this county,  and they compete for them.

Stop immigration now!

Part of the problem stems from the work ethic, or lack of one from young people. When I was 14 and older, we cut grass, delivered papers, shoveled snow. Some kids at school worked picking onions and baled hay. Too many won't do those jobs and lack the work ethic to do what they have to to earn a living. Look at the turnover of young people at fast food resturaunts? Immigration should be suspended with exceptions for true political asylum. It has been too easy for too long for employers to hire illegals without penalty. So what if vegetables go up in price, plant a garden. So what if wages will go up to build. Better negotiations will result,if someone wants it built concessions in price will have to be made. Life goes on,how it does depends on us.

I am not so sure that even if you pay more you would get people willing to pick crops. it is not the type of work our youngsters are looking for.If they don't want to work at fast food for $6.50 ( or any amount) why would they pick crops ? The fence presents it's share of problems also. It would have to constantly be repaired and gaurded. I have a relative that lives 5 miles from the mexico border. She says the texans are against the fence because of the ecological devestation it will cause. There are many animals that migrate back and forth between the 2 countries that are important to both. Also if we build a fence between Mexico and the US should we not also build one between the US and Canada? Especially since that where more terrorists seem to chose to come through .

You bet.  Border security applies to all borders.  Put a fence up along the northern border as well.
