PRESS RELEASE

DATE:    August 08, 2013

REF:     Pulaski County Child Flood Victim and Missing Mother Identified

At approximately 5:00 A.M, August 6, 2013, a 2009 Dodge Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), operated by Jessica D. Lee, 23, of Waynesville, MO, was traveling on Southside Road, when the vehicle was apparently swept away by run-off water from a small tributary leading to Mitchell Creek. The vehicle was subsequently swept through a drain culvert underneath Interstate-44, coming to rest within the creek, near the intersection of Ichord Avenue and G.W. Lane in the city of Waynesville. First located Tuesday morning at approximately 7:34 AM was the body of Jessica’s four year-old son, Elyjah M. Lee, of Waynesville, MO. Elyjah’s body was found by emergency response personnel near the 1500 block of Hull Valley Drive, which is approximately 400 yards downstream from where the SUV was located.

Search and rescuers comprised of troopers, deputies and police officers from various agencies, along with firefighters, emergency service personnel, members of the Missouri National Guard and volunteers under the direction of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department have assisted in the intense efforts to locate Jessica Lee; scent detection dogs have also been brought in to assist in the search of Ms. Lee.

Sheriff Ronald Long requests that individuals who wish to volunteer in recovery efforts please contact the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department at 573-774-6196.
