  • Valor7: What I tried to say is that the actual money would not be there that quick. But a loan against that would work if they are willing to do that.

  • Lepard LLC: Why so long before it comes online? 911 took out a loan or bond with the known guarantee payment and began building..

  • Valor7: Actually no it is not, a dependable Revenue stream will not come on line until the 4th quarter of 2017 so 2018 budget will be up in the air, not quite sure what they will have. By 2019 budget all will be well.

  • Valor7: You mean that tax that the Commissioners would not put on the ballot for so many years? Strange things happened when the citizens got a chance to vote on that issue.

  • Valor7: I could have worded that better, we talked details, options, the pros and cons of each, in  order to arrive at the best ballot language to present to the voters. Hope that makes this clearer.

  • Valor7: sorry about the typos still working with just one arm in action
    April 13, 2016, 01:10:42 PM
  • Valor7: Yes and no. We talked details and options until we were blue in the face but I never heardbring it over, it was always the time was not right for the issue to pass. Glad to see the time in now right and I for one shall vote yes on the ballot. I would urge all others to do the sameour county is busting at the seams crimewise and no matter how many bad guys we send off there always seems to someone to replace them. The Sheriff's Office needs the help.

  • Lepard LLC: Gene Newkirk Rick I have waited for a Sheriff to bring it to me on what he wanted. I have pushed Mr long for a while to get it to me. He told me he was close to having or done. Now hopefully the people will get to decide on it. I spoke with Steve about this a few times.

“The Sheriff’s View” (#33)

I would like to begin by thanking our friends at the Pulaski County Ambulance District (PCAD) for donating 5 slightly used Toughbook laptop computers to our agency. As noted in the name, Toughbook computers are made specifically for law enforcement, EMS and military use, due to their rugged build for the adverse conditions we work in. We have several road deputies who did not have these laptops that will definitely appreciate this gift from PCAD.

The Pulaski County Law Enforcement Agencies Shop with a Cop Program kicked off another fundraiser by sponsoring a 5K Run-Walk, last Saturday morning. The event began in the Waynesville City Park at about 7AM, and wound through the streets of Waynesville. The combination of good times and great exercise led to a successful fundraiser for our local children.

For those who are not familiar with this program, the Pulaski County LE Shop with a Cop Program raises monies throughout the year so less fortunate children can have a memorable Christmas. Then, right before Christmas, a law enforcement officer accompanies a child to one of our local stores and assists them in purchasing items they want for Christmas; this is a rewarding event for both the child and officer. Many thanks goes to Deputy Gwendolyn Andrewcavage for her prolonged efforts toward this program, along with Chief Deputy Groves who was on scene Saturday to welcome those who attended.

We are all thankful the heavy rains have gone so we can begin restoring our community after the damage from the floods three weeks ago. Since then, there have been numerous meetings where department leaders have gathered to analyze our emergency response and prepare for other similar events in the future. Last Tuesday, I attended a meeting regarding such in Rolla and also spent time with the Pulaski County Office of Emergency Management Director Smitty Lawson analyzing this event.

Personally, I was very pleased with a majority of the emergency services responses but one area needing attention is the location of a viable command center, capable of handling a large number of personnel, along with a command staff. Also, we were in need of an emergency disaster communications center, so full throttle ahead we go. The Pulaski County Commission has already allocated some rooms in the old Waynesville Middle School to be used for an Emergency Command and Communications Center, and Smitty and his volunteers are full steam ahead in getting it fully operational. The sheriff’s office will also be working with Smitty to make sure this center is operational as soon as possible.

This weekend Crocker will once again have the Railroad Days festival on Saturday. The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department will have a booth/tent set up at this location so please stop by and visit us!

This concludes another week’s summary as your Pulaski County sheriff, and I hope to see you here again next week. For more information about the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department and other related items of interest, please visit our Web-site at (, or on Facebook.

As always, stay safe and do something positive for your community.

Sheriff Ronald Long
