  • Valor7: Actually no it is not, a dependable Revenue stream will not come on line until the 4th quarter of 2017 so 2018 budget will be up in the air, not quite sure what they will have. By 2019 budget all will be well.

  • Valor7: You mean that tax that the Commissioners would not put on the ballot for so many years? Strange things happened when the citizens got a chance to vote on that issue.

  • Valor7: I could have worded that better, we talked details, options, the pros and cons of each, in  order to arrive at the best ballot language to present to the voters. Hope that makes this clearer.

  • Valor7: sorry about the typos still working with just one arm in action
    April 13, 2016, 01:10:42 PM
  • Valor7: Yes and no. We talked details and options until we were blue in the face but I never heardbring it over, it was always the time was not right for the issue to pass. Glad to see the time in now right and I for one shall vote yes on the ballot. I would urge all others to do the sameour county is busting at the seams crimewise and no matter how many bad guys we send off there always seems to someone to replace them. The Sheriff's Office needs the help.

“The Sheriff’s View” (#35)

We are continuing our efforts at the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department to increase the services we offer to our community and employees. Last week we implemented our Chaplin’s program, with Mr. Jim Burton agreeing to take the helm. The Chaplin’s office with take on multiple functions, but primarily there will be four areas the program will focus on. The first is to be available for PCSD employee counseling and family wellness needs. Another function is to assist with death and serious injury family notifications. The Chaplin’s office will also be in charge of coordinating jail ministry and church visitation requests. The final of the four is to assist our agency and community in the event of a disaster scenario.

The law enforcement Chaplin’s program is used by agencies worldwide and is a valued branch of service. In addition to Mr. Burton, there will be several other professionals and deputies who will be assisting and donating these services to your Sheriff’s office and community. As with our reserve deputies, the Chaplin’s office will consist of volunteers who wish to donate time and services to help their community.

When I took over in January, it was a general consensus among the deputies and staff that we take some visible steps to reflect a new Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department. The three things we all agreed on were to change the decals on our patrol vehicles, design and order new badges, along with changing our uniforms. With the arrival of our new badges this week, two of the three items on our wish list have been fulfilled. If I may say so, the new badges are really sharp! After the turn of the New Year, we will begin looking at a possible uniform change for our deputies.

Last week, Dispatch Supervisor Kim Luttrell and I traveled to St. James to retrieve our two high-tech police radios which were awarded to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department under a Missouri radio grant. These radios will allow us to take advantage of the Missouri MOSWIN system, which is a statewide radio system that all emergency services in this state will eventually be linked to. This is a multiband radio system, which will allow us to add a few radios at a time and not be out a large sum of money for an initial investment. Once again, many thanks to Mr. Darrell Duncan for assisting us in this endeavor by writing the grant!

Early Monday morning, one of your Pulaski County deputies was injured after being dragged by a vehicle when the driver resisted arrest. This occurred in the area of Highway 28 and I-44, which subsequently led deputies on a pursuit into Phelps County. The suspect was able to elude deputies by taking the pursuit down a jeep trail and then fleeing on foot into a heavily wooded area. Later this week we will be featuring a story on our Facebook page, along with releasing the suspect’s identity, photo and warrant information. We will be asking the public’s assistance in locating this fugitive, so visit us on Facebook to read the story and see if you can help. The involved deputy is still a little sore from his injuries but is now back at work.

A few weeks back I failed to mention that we now have a fitness gym at the sheriff’s department, in which our deputies have access to 24/7. The gym was furnished by donations from deputies and local citizens, and has a large array of equipment. Your deputies realize the importance of being physically fit and are now taking full advantage of this free facility.

Next weekend your Pulaski County Sheriff’s department will have a tent/booth at the Cow Day’s Festival in Dixon, so please stop by and visit us.

This concludes another week’s summary as your Pulaski County sheriff, and I hope to see you here again next week. For more information about the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department and other related items of interest, please visit our Web-site at (www.pcsheriff2.com), or on Facebook.

As always, stay safe and do something positive for your community.

Sheriff Ronald Long
