  • Valor7: Actually no it is not, a dependable Revenue stream will not come on line until the 4th quarter of 2017 so 2018 budget will be up in the air, not quite sure what they will have. By 2019 budget all will be well.

  • Valor7: I could have worded that better, we talked details, options, the pros and cons of each, in  order to arrive at the best ballot language to present to the voters. Hope that makes this clearer.

  • Valor7: Yes and no. We talked details and options until we were blue in the face but I never heardbring it over, it was always the time was not right for the issue to pass. Glad to see the time in now right and I for one shall vote yes on the ballot. I would urge all others to do the sameour county is busting at the seams crimewise and no matter how many bad guys we send off there always seems to someone to replace them. The Sheriff's Office needs the help.

“The Sheriff’s View” (#38)
I begin this week’s article with a mixed opinion. This was the last week for Lieutenant Dan Cordova at the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department and speaking for the deputies and myself, we hate to see Lt. Cordova leave. On the other hand, I am excited for Dan Cordova, who will remain in our community as the new Waynesville Police Chief. Therefore, he will still be working with us but while wearing a different uniform. We congratulate Dan Cordova and wish him the best as Waynesville’s top cop!
With the vacancy left behind by Lt. Cordova, we will be making a much needed addition to our staff by appointing a full-time detective. We are currently operating with a Criminal Investigations Division consisting of some very qualified reserve deputies but the down side is they all have regular jobs, which restricts the hours we have a detective available during the daytime. We are hoping to have the full-time detective operational in two weeks. In addition, we have two reserve deputies that are now available during the day, who will also be working as detectives during normal business hours. This will give us a total of 7 detectives and 2 Intelligence Information Officers (deputies) at the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department.
Last week, a new Ford Taurus Interceptor police car was ordered to replace the Dodge Charger we lost in the floods last month. There was some discussion among the troops to take the insurance check and purchase two used patrol cars instead of ordering one new one. After reviewing the savings in fuel and repairs that we have been experiencing since receiving the new cars, this was a no-brainer for me. Currently, and for years down the road, these new cars will not cost us anything except for fuel, normal maintenance and new tires, due to their 100,000 mile warranty. This allows for a safer and more efficient vehicle for our deputies, and a financial savings to our taxpayers.
Your Pulaski County deputies are remaining busy, with the number of calls-for-service closing in on the 10,000 mark this year. With the cooler weather moving in, we are expecting (and hoping) for things to begin to slow down. In anticipating this, your deputies have begun an all-out assault on training schools. We have a dedicated law enforcement training fund that is subsidized by fees attached to court cases, which can only be used for training. So, this fall your deputies will be traveling to specialized training schools so they can better serve you.
Hardly a day passes that I don’t hear from one of our citizens who just received a telephone call, e-mail or letter advising they are being awarded a large sum of money. The communication also informs the recipient they need only to send a small money order to receive the millions they are promised. Remember, if it is too good to be true, most likely it is a fraudulent scheme. Be cautious and smart; don’t ever fall victim to a scam that requires “up-front” money.
This concludes another week’s summary as your Pulaski County sheriff, and I hope to see you here again next week. For more information about the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department and other related items of interest, please visit our Web-site at (, or on Facebook.
As always, stay safe and do something positive for your community.
