  • Valor7: Actually no it is not, a dependable Revenue stream will not come on line until the 4th quarter of 2017 so 2018 budget will be up in the air, not quite sure what they will have. By 2019 budget all will be well.

  • Valor7: I could have worded that better, we talked details, options, the pros and cons of each, in  order to arrive at the best ballot language to present to the voters. Hope that makes this clearer.

  • Valor7: Yes and no. We talked details and options until we were blue in the face but I never heardbring it over, it was always the time was not right for the issue to pass. Glad to see the time in now right and I for one shall vote yes on the ballot. I would urge all others to do the sameour county is busting at the seams crimewise and no matter how many bad guys we send off there always seems to someone to replace them. The Sheriff's Office needs the help.

  • Lepard LLC: Gene Newkirk Rick I have waited for a Sheriff to bring it to me on what he wanted. I have pushed Mr long for a while to get it to me. He told me he was close to having or done. Now hopefully the people will get to decide on it. I spoke with Steve about this a few times.

“The Sheriff’s View” (#41)
As mentioned in past articles, we are constantly seeking grants that are conducive to the operations of this agency, and the betterment of Pulaski County. The last day of September concluded a MODOT (Missouri Department of Transportation) traffic grant that our deputies had been working this past spring and summer. This was a $5,000 award from the State that funded your deputies to work overtime throughout Pulaski County, conducting traffic and DUI enforcement activities. Grants such as this allow deputies to add a little to their paychecks, while making Pulaski County roadways safer places to travel.
It is no secret that the Pulaski County Jail is bursting at the seams and we are constantly seeking alternatives to our inmate population problem. I am continually asked about converting the old middle school the county purchased last year into a jail. Since taking office I have spoken with several individuals and companies who build jails about this possibility, but the responses are always against doing such. The general consensus is that an attempt to rehabilitate and convert the old school into a jail would be more expensive than building a new one. Despite this, we are still able to utilize portions of the building for many other things such as training, storage and automobile repairs/impoundments.
Over the past week there have been several reported occurrences throughout the county where adult males have attempted to lure juvenile females into their vehicles. During one of these incidents, deputies were able to locate the suspects and make two arrests. I will be releasing additional details about this in a media release later today. Please make sure your children are aware of possible dangers that lurk, and educate your kids on how to protect themselves from becoming a target for predators.
Last weekend I had invitations to attend several community events in our county. The first was an invite from Crocker Police Chief Chris Twitchell to attend Crocker’s Fall Festival Saturday morning. A perfect day allowed a good turnout of people to visit with law enforcement, EMS, Fire and Weather officials, along with a variety of entertainment and great food. Saturday night I experienced an enjoyable evening at the St. Robert Community Center, where the Pulaski County Korean Association was having their annual Chuseok (Thanksgiving) celebration. The evening was filled with cultural food, dance and songs, along with recognizing some Korean War Veterans and community leaders. I truly enjoyed the event and am looking forward to next year’s Chuseok celebration.
This concludes another week’s summary as your Pulaski County sheriff, and I hope to see you here again next week. For more information about the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department and other related items of interest, please visit our Web-site at (www.pcsheriff2.com), or on Facebook.
As always, stay safe and do something positive for your community.
Sheriff Ronald Long
