  • Valor7: What I tried to say is that the actual money would not be there that quick. But a loan against that would work if they are willing to do that.

  • Valor7: Actually no it is not, a dependable Revenue stream will not come on line until the 4th quarter of 2017 so 2018 budget will be up in the air, not quite sure what they will have. By 2019 budget all will be well.

  • Valor7: I could have worded that better, we talked details, options, the pros and cons of each, in  order to arrive at the best ballot language to present to the voters. Hope that makes this clearer.

  • Valor7: Yes and no. We talked details and options until we were blue in the face but I never heardbring it over, it was always the time was not right for the issue to pass. Glad to see the time in now right and I for one shall vote yes on the ballot. I would urge all others to do the sameour county is busting at the seams crimewise and no matter how many bad guys we send off there always seems to someone to replace them. The Sheriff's Office needs the help.

“The Sheriff’s View” (#42)
Despite Pulaski County experiencing a reduction in our crime rate, incidents of unusual circumstances continue to unfold. When a local photographer stopped roadside near Dixon to snap a few pictures of a colorful tree, her discovery was more than bargained for. Within a few feet of her target were the skeletal remains of a human being.
We are diligently looking into the above finding but investigations such as this one takes a lot of time and work. Forensic experts and an anthropologist are assisting this agency and are coming up with some valuable findings, but at this time releasing exact details could hinder our endeavors. I will do my best to keep you informed as this investigation progresses, but I do believe your patience will be necessary with this type of case.
Last week was an exciting one for our Criminal Investigations Unit, with the adding of one full-time and two part-time detectives. The three will be working primarily day shifts, which is something this agency has been in need of. These new detectives will join forces with our well qualified Reserve Unit detectives, and their resources were already put to use this weekend regarding the case mentioned above. In being your Sheriff and agency administrator, another exciting aspect for me is these new positions are being filled without costing our budget additional monies. A reshuffling of department assets, along with additional time donated by a valuable reserve deputy, are making this possible.
The Pulaski County community is composed of individuals and cultures from around the world, which makes this area very unique. With such a diversity of people come situations where our foreign visitors and residents may not completely understand our criminal and civil laws, along with legal procedures. It is very important to Sheriff Department employees and me that
everyone who deals with this agency is afforded and understands due-process of the law. This agency has employees who speak multiple languages, and we also have access to interpreters in this community to assist in situations where possible language or cultural barriers exists. I also highly recommend seeking the services of an attorney if you find yourself in a legal situation that you do not understand, or possibly involving a criminal or civil matter. Please do not let the lack of understanding our language or laws compound your problem as we have seen in several recent situations.
I wish to thank the Pulaski County Board of Realtors for their invitation to be a guest speaker at their luncheon last week. A good turnout and delicious food were two components of a successful gathering. During the meeting we had the opportunity to discuss a few concerns of our realtors, along with passing along some safety tips to the agents. Also last week I enjoyed the opportunity to speak with some Dixon High School students during Career Day. There was definitely some future Pulaski County Deputies among them.
This concludes another week’s summary as your Pulaski County sheriff, and I hope to see you here again next week. For more information about the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department and other related items of interest, please visit our Web-site at (www.pcsheriff2.com), or on Facebook.
As always, stay safe and do something positive for your community.
Sheriff Ronald Long
