  • Lepard LLC: Why so long before it comes online? 911 took out a loan or bond with the known guarantee payment and began building..

  • Valor7: Actually no it is not, a dependable Revenue stream will not come on line until the 4th quarter of 2017 so 2018 budget will be up in the air, not quite sure what they will have. By 2019 budget all will be well.

  • Valor7: I could have worded that better, we talked details, options, the pros and cons of each, in  order to arrive at the best ballot language to present to the voters. Hope that makes this clearer.

  • Valor7: Yes and no. We talked details and options until we were blue in the face but I never heardbring it over, it was always the time was not right for the issue to pass. Glad to see the time in now right and I for one shall vote yes on the ballot. I would urge all others to do the sameour county is busting at the seams crimewise and no matter how many bad guys we send off there always seems to someone to replace them. The Sheriff's Office needs the help.

 “The Sheriff’s View” (#43)

Springfield was in the crosshairs for Chief Deputy John Groves and me last week, as we attended an intelligence meeting with other Local, State and Federal agencies at the Mid-States Organized Crime Information Center (MOCIC). For a quick explanation, MOCIC is part of the Regional Information Sharing System (RISS) that is funded by the U.S. Department of Justice. The nationwide RISS program immensely assists law enforcement agencies, ranging from aiding with information about criminal groups/individuals, to helping with equipment needs that might be beyond the financial capabilities of the police or Sheriff’s Department.

One of the reasons for attending the above meeting was to network with other law enforcement agencies regarding the human remains that were discovered near Dixon the prior weekend. A first step in this investigation is to identify the deceased, which seeking help from the MOCIC is a major step in that direction. The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department is a member of this valued organization and we use this resource for a multitude of investigations. One goal of your new sheriff’s office is to assure our citizens and criminals that we are going beyond our county line to solve and deter crimes in this area. Attending MOCIC meetings opens the door to information other agencies have that might be useful to us.

Last week I spoke of the additions to our Criminal Investigations Unit, which is already paying off for those living in and visiting Pulaski County. These new detectives hit the ground running by filing criminal cases against some out of town criminals who thought they would spend a little time in Pulaski County stealing from our citizens and burglarizing their homes. Their misadventure was short-lived, with several arrests being made relating to these incidents. A third man is still at large but we have multiple deputies engaged in locating this suspect. In a few days I will release additional information about this fugitive through our media sources. I also have to brag on our tenured detectives that continue to solve major crimes they have been confronted with this year.

Over the past two weeks we have met with several consultants regarding our jail overcrowding conditions, and may have a “temporary” solution to a portion of this problem. Our staff is cautiously optimistic at this point and once we have the opportunity to visit with our County Commissioners, I will share the results and this concept to you. I assure you that not a week passes that we are not diligently working on this issue.

Last Spring I also announced the concept of forming a Sheriff’s Teenage Advisory Council, in which we would be seeking applicants from teens across this county. Even though I am a few months behind my targeted date for the project, I do believe we are only a week or two away from seeking applications. Once formed, the Teenage Advisory Council will convey and address issues of teens throughout Pulaski County and will be challenged to seek solutions for these, along with formulating innovative ideas to keep teens out of our Courts. In addition to our teens, we are also looking for community leaders from all areas of this county to assist the mentors who have already expressed interest in this project.

This concludes another week’s summary as your Pulaski County sheriff, and I hope to see you here again next week. For more information about the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department and other related items of interest, please visit our Web-site at (, or on Facebook.

As always, stay safe and do something positive for your community.

 Sheriff Ronald Long
