I would urge all others to do the sameour county is busting at the seams crimewise and no matter how many bad guys we send off there always seems to someone to replace them. I came here for Drill Sergeant school in 1994 - it was certainly a different place, even then.  We spent most of one night walking between bars from where sellers-sexton is, back toward the gate...There was no shortage of them.

For lack of anywhere else to go I used to go sit in the old Wal-Mart parking lot and study my 'modules'...

Funny - in 94 if you told me I'd end up here after retirement I would have laughed and said your a nut....   ;D

What was it that made you decide to stay, SC? Oh, wait. I know! It must be all the Republicans! :)

Lol....Well, I didn't really decide to stay, so much as things worked out where I was needed here, so came back, and now, several years later I know it was the right thing...

In 96-97 I had the privledge of working on the development of a new system for the Army, and gained a lot of inique, 'insider' information in doing so.  In 97 I was assigned to Germany, and in 1998 at a semi-formal function I ran into my old boss, who wanted me to go to the chem school's new location (here) and get the program up and running for this new system...

I agreed as I liked the idea of the challenge.  In 1999 I came down on orders, and in Jun 2000 I hit the ground here, only to find that someone else had been put into the job do to a miscommunication about where I would be assigned, lol.

So, I found a job that would be enjoyable, and would position me well for work on the civilian side, did it for three years, and retired in 2003.  One week after my ceremony I went back to work - basically same job, but different uniform, less BS, and significantly more pay   ;)

I planned to stay here five years, transition my family, and then decide where to go from there.  Five years are up next June, and I'm thinking we may stay put, but there are some other attractive options as well...  Hard to say at this point, but this area has grown on us, and our youngest starts 9th grade next year, and is a well established student and athlete.  Likely we'll be here for some time yet ;)

The one thing that is certain is home is now too expensive, and I doubt I'll ever go back to live there - beautiful SW Colorado - now a tourist mecca and the cost of living is through the roof....

Yeah, it's like that all over the southwest! My aunt has a tiny house in Scottsdale that would fit into 1/3 of my upstairs and would sell for $20k more than I paid for my house!

I am in the same boat as KC. I retired in 98, was single, so where I stayed did not matter. But I had three good job offers, one in Washington DC area, one in San Diego, and one here. All three offered the same amount of money, but this is the only place to stay and have money left over after I paid the rent.

Exactly - I have a standing offer to accept a promotion and significantly more money - but I have to move to the corporate hq - which is in an area where the cost of living is 30% higher, the day several hours longer - for both work and commuting, and the quality of life is much lower - I hate the big city...

So I'm pretty comfy where I'm at for the time being ;)

HEY LOOK - QUOTE WORKED!  ;)

I moved here toward the end of that era, remember it well.  Quite a different place.  If you haven't been to the museum in the City Hall you should go.  I had forgotten some of the places that were here way back when until I saw them on the overhead pictures they have there.  I don't however notice any of the news articles from that time in there.
When I was young, I wanted to be older.  This is not what I expected!

I used to work at the NCO club (Audie Murphy) back from 1970 - 1977.  I knew Rita Smith she used to come in there all the time.  They called her Re-Re.  I knew Bob Carson as a car dealer didn't know all that other stuff.  I do remember four corners.
When I was young, I wanted to be older.  This is not what I expected!
