People PLEASE remember that when you see emergency service personell on the road ways to slow down, hang up the phone if your on one, and pay attention.  Last night there was a young man struck by a motor vehicle very hard on the interstate.  he was hurt badly and in the hospital due to someones stupidity.  He and his family are going to go through some very rough times because someone was in a hurry and went didn't pay attention to the many flashing red lights on the scene and it could have cost this fire fighter his life.  Please watch out for these brave men and women because they are the ones coming to help when you are hurt.

Emphasis on SLOW DOWN and PAY ATTENTION!  Especially when the roads are bad - those lights are on for a reason!

Very sorry to hear this, I hope he is doing OK.  Did the person that hit him stop or continue on? I really don't understand how people have no regard for the people that protect and defend them. Everyone has to get there fast.

Yes, we would all appreciate it if everyone would slow down AND get over. Last year several highway patrolmen through out the state were killed due to these kind of accidents and this year our local firefighter is seriously hurt. In our small communities ALL emergency services work closely together and it effects everyone from the dispatchers to persons family members. Some of us have worked closely together for many,  many years and it effects everyone in the emergency services field when a tragedy or near tragedy happens.

Yes, the driver is in very serious trouble. Parents teach your children it is not worth it. Teach them to stay off the cell phone, slow down and pay attention and most of all it is not worth hurrying. Not only when it is dangerouse out, but every time they drive. Poor judgement is not worth potentially killing another person over. This persons decision is inexcusable and his life will be altered because of it. Just as the firefigters life and family will be altered as well. If everyone would be proactive in their decision making skills maybe in the future all emergency responders will be a little bit safer.

Also I am aware of  some of the problems with some tow truck drivers but I would also like to point out that there are some of the drivers out there who are emergency trained as well as helped on many past scenes. They have helped load patients, and stablize cars that were otherwise unsafe for us to get in to prior to the fire department arriving. On scenes with multiple patients I have seen them help where ever they can or do anything they were asked to do. I truly believe that everyone assisting with emergency scenes from the bystanders to the dispatchers and everyone else in between are there for the common good and hope that one or two bad stories does not tarnish everyone associated with what ever the complaint is.

May I add one? Move into the other lane EARLY when you see them. Don't wait to get a better look first. A woman who was ahead of me did not change lanes when there was a police officer on the shoulder, with another car and a tow truck. In fact, she slowed down. I'd changed lanes, and with her slowing down she was right alongside me when it finally occurred to her to move over or hit the officer, and she ran me off the road. Totalled my truck but it could have been much, much worse. She scared the hell out of the officer, too.
Heck is where people go when they don't believe in Gosh.

Yes he did. I spoke with Chief Hobbs an hour or so ago and he told me the same thing. Rick had a few thoughts on the driver also but I cannot share them.

I reposted this from the Chamber of Commerce Website. I thought it would do some good here as well. If any of you can think of another place to post please copy and post it there as well. Also, word of mouth works well. I can't imagine what the hospital bills are but I can tell you every little bit will help with any expenses.

Help a Fire Fighter in Need!

To Whom It May Concern,

Fire Fighter Tracy Henry is a volunteer for Tri-County Fire Association and also a full-time Fire Fighter for St. Robert City Fire and Rescue. Firefighter Henry was injured while responding to a motor vehicle accident. He was struck by a passing car while directing traffic. Tracy has been in Springfield hospital recovering from his injuries. Rick Hobbs (chief of Tri-county Fire Assoc.) has set up an account for the Henry family at First State Bank of St. Robert. The funds raised will be used for the families out of pocket expenses that they have incurred during this tragic time. Any assistance provided will be greatly appreciated by the family and Tracy's fellow fire fighters. We would like to thank you for your help in this time of need.

Charles J. Fraley Jr.
Fire Chief St. Robert City Fire and Rescue

He is doing great.  He now works for Waynesville Rural Fire Protection District fulltime, and is in great spirits.. And if would look at him right now you wouldnt think he was ever in an accident.
