That's weird that it burned down my husband and I were just talking about it and wondering what they were going to do with it.  I know that it is an off limits sight for all military personal due to several hasadards of structural damage, plus there has been prostitution, dealing of drugs and so on and so forth.  Back where I come from when a building mysteriously burns down it is usually from some one starting it on fire to claim insurance money.  Who even owns that any way?

My husband told me that the entire thing burned down, at first I was like wow and then I was thinking that a while back someone told me that is was off limits due to structural and the fumes because people were dumping chemicals in the pool area and so on scary really, He called and told me at 2:30am and I heard it was still burning at 9:ooam wow. I'm sure it was arson.

It burned to the ground. I listened to most of it on the scanner last night. It had sounded like thaey had it out by the time I went to bed. My shop is right across the street. Its still smoking pretty good. Its wierd though I had had heard recently from a firefighter that they wanted to burn it down as a training exercise. I believe I even seen something on here or the old forum about it.

it would make the place look cleaner with it gone. I heard all the copper wires been gone out of it as its been closed for years now. At one time it had a good resturant in it with a good buffet and at lunch you had to wait in line to even get in.

I think it was owned by norman fields (Harware) and that flw had a plan to buy the land and put up a visitors center for the parents of grads etc.

well, first of all my wife made that last post for me, so people dont think that rugind, the male has a husband.

Second of all, from what i have heard from people is that no one wanted to do anything with the property, due to the enormous cleanup costs due to all the enviromental hazards there. I think that place now is going to continue to be an eyesore for time to come even though it has burnt down, because of the enourmous costs. If the owner of the property hasnt done anything to it since it has became like it has, Im sure that he wont do anything now. Also, I am surprised that they didnt find any homeless people inside.

I believe the property has set empty because of the lawsuit against the city for shutting it down , or something of that sort. that was also on this forum or the old one.

Iwouldnt doubt it. I am surprised that the FD didnt find any squatters in the fire. Even though most of the radio traffic i heard was that it was an exterior attack on the fire.

Norman Fields died sometime ago too.  So he could not have set the fire.  Maybe a meth lab gone bad?

Doubt the owner had anything to do with it, he had too much to gain with it remaining, because of a lawsuit against the city. My guess would be squatters trying to stay warm, and their fire got out of hand

Drove by it about 2:30am and it was burning at the top...definitely suspicious.  How would a fire just start up there?  Oh well, it was an eye sore.

It was closed when I got here in 99...

It wouldnt be the first piece of property that Norman Fields(yes i know he is dead) has owned, that didnt have electric to it, that ended up catching fire because of an electrical short (could be a rumor).  It was said the old theatre where speedy's is now burnt down by electrical short, yet supposedly didnt have electric to the place.  I used to work at the village inn in the late 80's just before they had the fire in the kitchen, in a room they said was always closed and locked, but when i worked there it was always opened to anyone that went into the kitchen.

This may not be certain, but I thought they arrested someone for arson? When I was there I thought I heard that. I only brought water out for the firefighters and I stayed there by the ambulance, so I'm not sure. I think they had a suspect or maybe made an arrest.

The property certainly went up in value. I am surprised it lasted this long. It is a shame the other buildings nearby weren't used much if at all.
