I heard a rumor a few days ago that Waynesville PD has told it's Officers that they can no longer be a Reserve for the PCSD and must resign their Commission.  Can anyone find out if this is true and if it is, why?

That would stink if it were true....
Some people are like Slinkies... Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

I figure someone on here will have the inside scoop or maybe the press guy will find out about it.  It was an ugly rumor and there was more to it but don't want to sling c@@p if it aint true.

Why?
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Remember that no matter how bad things are in your life, there are others dealing with much worse obstacles, and be thankful for what you have.

I may be wrong but I don't think it's just the PCSD, I think they have to turn in to all the department's they are a reserve for.

I would also like to know why.  It doesn't make much sense to me.  I would think that the dual commission status would be of benefit to all the LE Depts.  There are many roads in this County that one side is City and the other side is County.  I would think that if a City Officer responded to what he thought was a City call and it turned out to be County, then he could go ahead and handle it instead of the people having to wait for County to get there.  Of course this situation might be covered by the Mutual Aid agreements.

It just seems to me that this decision, no matter who made it, is not in the best interests of the County and the people who live in it.  Is this going to turn into a competition between the Citys and the County?  We should all be working together to improve the County as whatever improves it will also improve the Citys.  Hope I explained it so it makes sense to everyone.  If not, somebody step in here and help me out.

Could it be the cost of Workman's Compensation costs if an unpaid reservist were hurt/killed (God Forbid)?  Insurance is very high now.  Just a guess.

Would be nice to hear the rationale behind this move.
....and that night as the moon crossed the mountain, one more Coyote was heard...

I don't know about the Worker's Comp part of it, but I do know that all the unpaid hours that the Reserves put in, has been a benefit to not only the PCSD but to the people who live here.

I would recommend calling the New Waynesville Police Chief and asking him.  Then post his answer for all of us to see.

Or call the City Administrator or Mayor and see if they have an answer.

I'm sure they have a reason for this move, the soundness of the move may be questionable, but until we know what the reason behind the action is you can't really say to much!

Thanks for confirming the rumor.  The way i heeard it, the new Chief supports J.T. and so doesn't want to do anything that will help sheriff King.  Also heard why Sheriff King had to start his own team.  It is a shame that he can't answer the way it is but I think he is trying not to look bad by pointing out what goes on.

If the above is true, then that would be considered unethical, He cannot make the folks of this county suffer the consequences of his immaturity if that is the case.  (I mean the new Chief)

The new Chief is reputed to have quite a short fuse too.  Hope for his sake he doesn't need county assistance.

Well, if this is in fact true, it really does surprise me that the city would allow such a thing to go unchecked.

The new Chief is supporting Bill Anderson.  There are 2 Large signs on his fence stating so.

OK.. First of all do not quote me on this as it is based on my recollection of our conversations, and I am unfamiliar with police terminology. And remember I may have misunderstood him completely.

Chief Carter tells me that it is not just the county , this includes all departments, commissions have been pulled from St. Robert, Richland and Crocker also. This was brought about in response to a law suit that has been filed. One of his concerns is liability, and man power issues that are affecting his department. He says new laws are now in place and these dual cards are not necessary, his officers can arrest anywhere now. He has no ill feelings toward any Chief of police, or the Sheriff, this has nothing to do with that. I fall back to it seemed he is mostly concerned with having his officers available when he needs them. That's my take on this, from speaking to him.
